This is why I love red bull. Supersonic skydive from 23 miles up.

"Fearless Felix, as his fans call him, has something more difficult on the agenda: jumping from a helium balloon in the stratosphere at least 120,000 feet above Earth. Within about half a minute, he figures, he would be going 690 miles per hour and become the first skydiver to break the speed of sound. After a free fall lasting five and a half minutes, his parachute would open and land him about 23 miles below the balloon."

“We just don’t know what will happen to Felix and the suit when he goes supersonic,”

The best part is they have no idea what will happen to him once he goes supersonic, he could get knocked out, ripped apart nobody knows.

All I have to say is this guy is shtooking CORE (for once I think this is the correct usage of core).

That is crazy trying to break the sound barrier. If anyone else watch the video on the page, what was with the close up on the hands, it was kinda odd.

This is awesome. I wonder if they have a way to control his chute other than opening it if he does get knocked unconscious.

he'll slow down guys...

the point is to drop from high enough where the atmosphere is thinner so air resistance is lower, go super-sonic (my guess is that's super-sonic at sea level?), and then he'll slow back down to 124 mph before releasing his chute.

still core though... LOL

Oh for sure,  once the air gets heavier he will drop back down to terminal velocity and release his chute.  But the fact that they really have no idea what will happen when/if he goes super sonic is awesome.

Up that high the air is thinner....... aka less drag  = go faster.

His terminal Velocity will be higher because his suit will pack on a lot of mass. Also, the speed of sound is somewhere around 760mph at sea level, but he is jumping from 23 miles above sea level.
