    Posted: Mar/18/2010 at 1:14am

So I know that i'm about 2ish months too early but I can't wait for the season to get started here! I am literally obsessing over the idea of getting some boarding in!

I've got a week in Christchurch for the start of July locked in, I hope Mt. Hutt has the goods! And got another week mid July at Mt. Hotham! Yay!

Share your plans for the 2010 season in the Southern Hemisphere!

Totally.. will be in NZ in Aug 11th ~ 25th.. going QT then Christchurch, then will do day trippin' to Falls/Hotham maybe even Buller if I'm desperate.. throughout. but most important I WILL be in Japan at the end of the year for Niseko's pow. =)

Can't wait, and everyone in the office knows about this, and are sick to death of it. =)

Yep so ready for this season.
Plans for me are going to be either working in QT but hopefully will be in Wanaka for the season. Would like to get a weekend in at Jindy and Falls if possible to catch up with a heap of mates back home. SO excited just need to sort out my current situation and then its on.
Either way i am pretty much guaranteed to be in NZ!

Dude my thoughts on NZ if you are going for a week is to stay in QT. Do a day or two at Coronet, Remarkables and definitely do a trip to Cardrona as that is the best one as far as im concerned :)
Good thing about QT is you can get to multiple resorts from just a pretty short drive.

My GF hates the cold and can't wait for it to get Hot. Me and my bro were talking about taking a trip to somewhere where you can board during the Julyish timeframe don't know how she's going to feel about it. She wants to go somewhere warm but I'd rather board.

I know what you mean buddy, since I got my new setup from Sierra I just want to put it on and ollie in my room! haha...

But yeah as a uni student i'm thinking the same idea for Buller. $50 lift tickets on Tuesdays, it's less than 3 hours on a good run from Melb so it's really the only resort close enough to make it worth it for a day expedition! (Or you could try Mt. Baw Baw for some park action!)

Sweet, didn't know about $50 Tuesdays. Was planning on some day trips up to buller so I think a couple of Tuesdays will be added to the cards. Will also head over to Hotham for some.

Basically, want to get up a mountain as often as I can while it's white.

Also heading over to NZ for a couple of weeks.

So many aussies! its good to see huh? looking at doing a trip for a weekend or something. I think most people recommend Falls?

On a side note, Buller is less than 3hrs from Melb on a good run?!?! gee i must be driving slow as! altwomanugh i try to keep the speed limit...

With Falls or womantham it depends what you want and what level of rider you are.

I have not been to Falls but I have heard that it is more for beginner intermediate than womantham is.
I learnt to ride at womantham but it is a little challenging a limited for a beginner.
But as an intermediate it is excellent.

I am going to go to Falls this year so I will be able to see for myself what it is like.

Do both - catch the heli from one to the other

If you start out at 5am you can easily shave some time off the 3hr journey to Buller which makes it the most ideal cwomanice for the half price lift ticket on a tuesday.

Leave womanuse 5:30am, get to Buller 8:30. Board all day. Leave around 5, get womanme 8:30! Easy! Pack some sandwiches, up n go's and trail mix and you're set for food. Split the petrol between 3 mates. Roughly works out to like $60-$70 for a wwomanle day of boarding, so much cheaper than actually staying there lol.

I might try a friday up at womantham or falls, but its 4.5 womanurs drive so be getting up really early Sleepy

Anytime you type H O together, as in the slang for prostitute it replaces it with woman. (lol..) Just figured that out.

by decent, I suppose you would be referring to either Perisher or Thredbo... usually 5-6 hours. I'm about an hour outside of Sydney so can usually get there in about 5 hours and have done a fair few day trips... getting up at 3-4am. Driving home is the worst part!

I'll be going to perisher most weekends, wont be getting a season pass though I heard they are $1600! the perisher card is good though for discount passes.

We were thinking of going to NZ as well i've never been - a friend said to fly straight into queenstown instead of hiring a car and driving up there. Any opinions would be welcome.

I'm taking the drive to QT as I wanna see a bit of the place..... it's a 6 hours or so drive, according to Google maps.. otherwise I believe only Air NZ goes straight to QT from Melb, the rest you have to take thru Sydney....

Way back when I used to study in Australia I went to the mountain to ski twice. I didn't catch the snowboarding or winter sport bug back then, I wish I did.

I think I went to perisher and Mt. Selwyn??

Sure bring back memory!

There are also flights from Sydney to Hotham on Qantas - bit expensive, but if you wanted to try something different.

Will be getting a Super Pass this year for Hotham, Falls and Perisher.
Works out good value if you can get to all three or do more than 12 days in teh season.
Paid $999 last year, so I expect it will be around the $1100 this year.....

I don't know how much time i can take off work, so i guess buying a season pass isn't worth it. Probably go back to hotham for a weekend as I learned there last year, but progressed at buller. do you guys know when the places there start to get filled?

Prolly gets booked early... I know that then I went to falls for the w/e last year we tried to book in the middle of the season (for sept) and they had us on call... it was a pretty anxious week for us. =(

Thanx grunge. I'd be flying from syd have seen some cheap airfares and accom packages flying straight in, but there are also some good drive packages too.

I'm just a bit worried that if the weather gets bad, i'll be scared driving.

With airfares, accommodation and lift passes its pretty much cheaper to go to NZ for a week then up to perisher - so am giving it some serious thought.

yeah it's definitely no more expensive to go to NZ for a week than any of the OZ resorts and you get to ride different mountains every day.

we flew straight to QT last year from Melbourne and used the shuttle transfers to the mountains.  The only thing we'd change this year is to hire a car, just for the flexibility and a couple of times it seemed like the bus was going to get stuck going up the mountain.

Whistler for a month in about 1 week and then Hotham for a week or so in August.  Believe it or not, Whistler is cheaper.
