No question...Mammoth. But Mammoth is far from socal (actually Mammoth is far from just about anywhere) which is why a lot of use socal'ers go to Mt. High and Bear locally.

But any chance I get, I go to Mammoth which is about 5.5 hrs driving from LA/OC.

Bear is a good mountain, but Mammoth is amazing. Never been to June myself.

yeah, if you could make it to Mammoth, definitely choose mammoth. Mammoth is a lot better than bear. However, lift tickets are pricier and lodging cost more as well.

I went to Mammoth for the first time this season is feb after frequenting the So cal mountains for years (bear, summit, snow valley, waterman, mt high) and I must tell you, I'd rather have 1 day of riding at Mammoth than 3 at any of those local mountains. Mammoth is just heaven. Not even in the same league!!

Mammoth alone is much much bigger than Bear/Snow Summit, so there's way more options in terms of finding what you want to ride. They have a gondola and express chairs, etc... so its a big resort with all the trimmings. Also, they also receive more snowfall and you have a better chance for powder. But yes, its got much pricier lift tickets($87 vs. $53) not to mention lodging will be pricier.

But if you really like to ride park, i would argue that Bear/Summit would be a great choice. Bear has more jibs and jumps for the beginner/intermediate park rider than Mammoth. Also, the recent TransAM contest left some really cool features on the mtn that you will not see anywhere else. Its also 2 hours away from LA, so you could mix in some city sites while you are on your trip. Summit has more of the groomed runs without all the park features, and 1 ticket gives you access to both mountains.

If you want the full resort experience, go to Mammoth, hang out at the village and chill. If you want something where you have more options than just apres ski, then I would chose Bear.

Either way, come soon, the snow is melting quick style.

MAMMOTH ALL THE WAY!! I've been going to Mammoth ever since I started riding. Recently I took a trip to Mt. Baldy, one of the local Socal mtns and realized how lucky I have been. Everything from the terrain to the chairlifts to the people is 10x better at mammoth!

all these people give opinion but no logic, mammoth as a mountain is better, if you like to lap normal runs and backcountry, do mammoth, if you are a park rider it bear mountain no doubt.
