So only monthws away and I've started planning already for myself and two Kids.
We're going to be a bit savvy this year being beginners we're heading off to Falls Creek brush up for a week. Then hop from mountain to mountain, avoiding Buller on weekends.

So who knows of the cheap deals, let's use this thread to share the deals and make this winter a blast!!!

I've head Buller have cheap tertiary students prices on Tuesdays and Hotham is doing the same on Fridays.

Anyone head of any other good deeals going?

Oh, yeh Buller has kids lift prices at $54 for kids in year 12 and under.

Come on share your good deals. Head Flight centre have some cheap deals

Hotham have a Rewards Card programme that costs $49 to join.

You get discount lift tickets and discounts on rental equip, group lessons etc.

I think that it works out wel lfor those doing under 14 Days - after which an Early Bird Season Pass makes more sense.

Mt Buller also has a membership card but lift tickets from Mt Buller isn't useable on Hotham or Falls Creek :(  I'm pretty sure Hotham and Falls Creek can use each other's ticket.

Yes Kenmanh - Hotham and Falls on the same lift ticket.
You can also take a helicopter from one resort to the other to ride on the same day
About $180 return I think
You get 4 hours or so at the other resort - might do it this year even though I am scared of helis

Never been to Perisher and I would love to go but it's not in our plans at this moment in time.

Just keep an eye on the winds in the forecasts if you are planning on taking the helicopter :)

About Baw Baw, here's what aubzaubz posted on the "2010 Aus/NZ season" thread a few days ago:

Here's a video from the big air bag session yesterday at Mt. Baw Baw. Conditions were perfect, was about 20 people there mostly from the Melbourne Uni Ski / Snowboard clubs!

They also had some boxes setup. The dryslope stuff was a bit sketchy coming down the hill on it as you pretty much can't carve or put your edge to it or you stack! And it hurts heaps more than the snow! Good fun though!

Baw Baw is the last mountain to get snow, and the first to lose it...it's also the smallest mountain, filled with T-bars :(

BUT, those insane lift tick prices and being so close to Melbourne make it look like a winner to me.

As for deals, last year they ran some fairly cheap short freestyle lessons (I think they were about 1 hour, for about $50)

Anyone else a Buller Club member? That has got to be the best loyalty program we have in Australia. I managed to get 3 free days last year from them. And to top it off, I think they owe me another free day, so my first day this year will also be free. I love that kinda stuff.

I don't think the snow was that great last year in NZ
but was awesome the year before though..
It so much cheaper to go NZ for 10 then anywhere is Australia
for even 5 days on mountain.

I'm considering it but I would have liked it also include Perisher.

Just checked, $699 before 27th May.

Make sure you see more than one travel agent, especially if you're only booking flights...Flight Centre, for example, have a policy to beat anyone else's offers.

Have a quick look online at one of the aggregators too (Webjet ect.). If you see something there you'd book, then check that airlines own site.

Amen to that.. I think we will tho... apparently they're saying we can expect a rainy winter due to globa watchamacallit. hopefully in the hills it translates to snow.

yeah i double posted, bite me.

if you wnt cheap accom you're better off staying off mountain to be honest.

if your loking as chaeap as you can get you could try and see if they have any dorms or back packer like accomo if not you will have to get a room in a lodge. i stayed at a lodge in hotham it slept like 7 or 8 of us and people were pretty friendyl, like right next door to the General (the pub) so it was pretty good.

you could try and find the closest YMCA they will have cheap as accomo.

For Hotham youcan stay at Hariettville at the bottom of the mountain - the hotels there can sleep 4 to a room and cost approx $120 per night.
Or the cabins at the caravan park are cheap too.

I think its about 30 minutes

You can stay at bright its in between falls creek and mt hotham
about an hour drive to each mountain and accommodation is heaps cheap there
plus you have a town.

ive stayed there a few times during the summer for family holidays, they have waterslides and that going into the goulburn river i think it is.

ive seen the pub PUMP there as well so it wouldnt be such a bad place to stay

the drive to hotham while smahed or hungover is not recomended. when i went there we went on a bus with like 20 other people and we got BLIND from hawthrone all the way up, a slab of beer and a 10 pack of JD between like 4 of us on a bus was a really shit idea

if you decide to goto Falls, you can stay in MT Beauty. but there is pretty much nothing there but its right at the base of the mountain

Yeah about 30 mins drive, but if you need to fit chains etc then a little longer.
Plus, I really like Harrietville, the pub there has a cool front bar
