Breck is better for the $$.  You can get lodging in town for $50/pp/night, 3 days of skiing is whatever the price for the lift costs (it depends on the dates and if you buy in advance).  There aren't any discounts from those mountains aside from the advance purchase, so check on snow.com for the pricing.

I just got back from 6 nights at vail with 5 days of skiing, and the trip was about $1400, with an awesome deal on lodging and flight from the east coast, shuttle from DIA, etc.

I went back in '06. What I can remember was that it was clear and sunny, so both resorts were wide open. My preference is Brekenridge, not only because it's cheaper, but because the runs seemed more snowboard friendly. Vail had a lot of mogul runs, but both resorts were worth visiting. I just wish it would have dumped to get some of that fresh light Colorado powder. Coming from Southern California, fresh powder is as rare as rain.

In terms of cost, because it's closer to the end of the season, prices might be slightly cheaper and they are giving out deals, so it would vary. Back when I went, I think I spent about a grand for everything (car, lift tix, lodging, food, gas, etc.) I think there was about 10 of us who went...maybe slightly more.

I liked Vail better... We rented a cabin for 8 people and it was $170 for 5 days. The shuttle system is great in Vail... huge mountain.. great off the mountain bars... Golden Peak terrain park is epic.

Price wise though Breck can get pretty pricy, but worth it.

or you can get a place near keystone.. wake up early everyday and go to breck, once your ready to take a break, go back to the lodge, rest up/eat watever and then go night-skiing at keystone!

edit: regular tix should work at both keystone and breck. so night skiing FTW.

IMO that's how you get your money's worth. ski all day and ski night until they close.

As a mountain Vail is WAYYYYYY better. I've spent some serious time at both resorts and at this point never want to ride Breck again when Vail is just 30min down the road. This year I actually spent 6 nights in Breck but only rode there 2 days out of hungover necessity.

unfortunately Vail is also a more expensive place to stay. I'd really recommend staying in a close by town, like frisco, and parking for free and riding the shuttle to the mountain. Plus, if you stay there you're pretty close to 5 or 6 different mountains so you can go wherever you want easily.

Breckenridge is great for the money and the mountain town is better, plus at the same time you dont have to just stay there, it's only 45 minutes to Vail.

This thread is over a year old...

Personally, im a breck guy, and I feel that breck pretty much offers anything, from untouched terrain that rarely ever tracks out to some pretty steep terrain. They also have one of the best parks in the country.

Vail on the other hand is great, but it felt as if I spent more time getting from place to place than actually riding. Vail is not like you hike a couple hours and get the line of your life, it's more like spending a couple hours just to do something different.
