New Drive Clean emission test procedure implemented by the Ministry of Environment no longer uses a dynamometer and exhaust gas analyser. The new method connects to the vehicle ECU via OBD-II and conducts the test electronically. All OBD-II-equipped motor vehicles must be tested by this method. So the concern now to owners is no longer how clean your exhaust is, but whether the ECU has has stored any DTCs and whether it can pass onboard readiness tests.

The Drive Clean program is for high-density regions of Ontario, only. I've earned the Drive Clean Inspector certification and I think it's a complete waste of time and a total money grab. There are much more cost-effective and relevant methods to gauge vehicle maintenance than this program. We should use Japan's motor vehicle safety standards: mandatory complete vehicle inspections by the government every two years.

I'm assuming if you have an OBD-I ecu they'll be testing the old fashion way? or is there some kind of converter? I don't keep track of car knowledge anymore.

Any vehicles not equipped with OBD-II must use the old test method: the dynamometer and gas analyser. Since most shops have switched over to the new system, these dynos are getting harder to find.

Same car, but engine and driveline were sold off and the car was parted out. I bought the bare shell afterwards and reassembled the car, barely driven since then. Ate a few Mustangs including a 2012 5.0. Opting for a 67 mm T04Z turbocharger rather than the previous 61 mm GT35. Will flow enough for almost 600 horsepower on pump gas instead of race fuel. I have another Supra Turbo parked elsewhere occasionally used as parts donor.

I'm getting too old for an unreliable project car. I have a WRX now and I've been thinking of returning everything back to stock and selling it for something reliable and better on gas. If we can ever afford to buy a house I'd like a project car.

The engine and driveline are factory units, no modification necessary. Spun a rod bearing so it should not be driven. I have a few engines laying around and will piece one together out of the good parts next year, plus some modern-era upgrades. The gearbox needs an output shaft seal, input shaft bearing that I damaged, shift forks converted to forged billet units for reliability, and electronic speedometer conversion. The gearbox is in pieces under a bench at work.

It is possible to have a project car that is reliable if maintenance is taken seriously. The most reliable vehicle ever in my family was my 1987 Toyota 4Runner. At over 25 years old, it was still cheaper to maintain than every other car we've ever had for as long as I've been alive. It didn't start one day, so I diagnosed it, went to the dealership, bought a $20 ignition wire and drove it to work the same morning. I sold it last year for something more modern and safer.

And, incidentally, the cost of assembling a Supra Turbo from an empty chassis was cheaper than buying a used one.

So my baby Taco I bought last year has received some serious mod love recently

Blacked out the silver grill & back bumper with black plasti-dip
2.5" ProComp level kit
Nitto Terra Grapplers 285/75/16
MB TKO 16" wheels
TRD logo valve stem caps
13" Euro Antenna
Completely De-badged
Seatbelt Chime Silencer mod
Started to remove the bedside decals the other day (got rained out with no garage to move her into to finish)

Next mods will most likely include changing out the headlights/tail lights, tint, trim the mud flaps, install custom-made bedside logos, possibly change out the stereo unit, maybe add under-rail bed lights...

Looking good! I tried to keep my NC plates when I moved here but the timing didn't work out.

I like the longer mudflaps, and you'll like them this winter too.

My Bimmer has received some mod love recently too!

- Debadged
- New Wheels
- Started changing the logo roundels out for carbon fiber & black, but the ones I got aren't the right size for the hood/hatch
- Tint (20% front / 10% back)
- Changed out the side marker lights with smoke lens LEDs
- New weatherproof floor mats

When I bought her, almost 3 years ago:

And now....!!!

Took my 2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid up to Bassi Falls in the El Dorado National Forest yesterday. The part-time AWD did pretty well on the dirt road. But my wife said it was more comfortable when we drove on this same road with the Acura MDX with bad struts a couple years ago. Shocked

Have you tried Goo Gone or some other Bug&Tar remover? They're supposed to be safe for car paint.

Been giving some love to my '94 Ranger. The entire exhaust was shot so I just dropped a grand on that and another couple hundred on a new power steering box. The free truck from my uncle wasn't so free after all haha.
