I have come in the good fortune of owning both a 2010 Custom X and Vapor
Both are the same size I like to bomb down the mtn, go back country, ride around resort. Which is a better board to ride price aside? I do not ride park/pipe (i have a vrocker for the park anyways) I hope spenser can chime in. Please only chime in if you've ridden either of these boards? how do i make a poll damnit!?!? |

I would go Custom X personally. More versatile and solid for bombing. Have not ridden the Vapor though, but its supposedly it excels in the pipe? So if you dont do pipe, just go Custom X.

HERE I AM!! you're probably talking about the real spenser though, right?
I know you said price aside and only if i've ridden one of them, BUT DUDE, just sell the vapor since it's worth a freaking ton of money and use the money to buy yet ANOTHER board. Makes sense in my book. Money aside, both sound like solid boards for what you want, just by reputation. No such thing as a "better" board, why don't you just ride both a couple of times and pick the one that you like more. |

well the custom x i can still return to sierra if i choose not to keep it. My buddy just gave me his vapor cause he left the country, which i could ride, but its in such good shape im scared to damage it haha. Thanks for your opinions though, I appreciate your thoughts.

I haven't ridden either but it seems silly to ask others what they think when you already have both boards in your hands.
Does it not really matter what works best for you? My suggestion is get up to the hill soon before the season is over and try both boards. Pick the one you like the best. |

ridden both, and both boards are great for what you're looking to do, 'bomb, backcountry, resort riding...' the custom x is a bit stiffer though than the vapor. As far as 'pipe board' classifications go, thats just marketing lingo to me. People ride stiff, soft, blunt shaped, whatever boards in the pipe no problem. Only real connecting link i see between most pro riders in the pipe, is traditional camber. obviously, both the vapor and custom x are traditional camber. i really think you'd be fine, and enjoy either the vapor or the custom x.

Consider Vapor as upgrade version of CX
most likely only thing you'll probably noticed on the two boards is the weight.. I doubt you'll notice the difference that much on riding.. |

i wouldnt call the vapor an 'upgrade' to the cx, its a different board. both boards are directional, twin flex, stainless steel edges, sintered n20 wfo base, pro tip...
the vapor core is more high-tech, surely. I think the thing that one will notice most between the two boards is the flex, and then the weight. |

bit of both i guess. similar in the idea that you can really take either one all over the mtn for the riding that dirty described earlier. Different in the idea that i found the custom x to be noticeably more aggressive on the mountain than the vapor. id say if you like a more agressive stick, the custom x would be your choice, whereas the vapor flexes more like a jussi. I would hesitate to call the vapor a stiff board, and i wouldnt for the custom x. so similar rides, different feels, if ya know what i mean. |

Would you say that feeling can be different from person to person but how the board rides is still the same? |

within reason. i think the person rides the board, and not the other way
around. Obviously the 'feeling' of riding a board includes all sorts of
variables, terrain, style, comfort, how hungry you are... but i'd
certainly raise my eyebrows if somebody found a vapor 159 to be stiffer than
a custom x 158. I consider the vapor to be a board that most intermediate
riders would find easy to ride. To me, its not an 'advanced' board, its
just expensive. CX on the other hand, id be weary about recommending to
most intermediate riders. That is, x>50%.
I dont think there is a universal standard for 'how a board rides', the answer to that will always be subjective to the rider describing it. Since dirty has both boards, i suppose he could easily ride em both and just decide, but im assuming he wants to sell/return one as new. Also, +1 to BFBF. |

Wow, i never thought the Custom X would be considered less forgiving than the Vapor. This is exactly why i asked the question :) i have been dreaming about riding the custom X for about a year now. All my advanced riding buddies ride a Custom X. now im incredibly torn, because if i keep the custom x. I will fall on my face a ton as it may be too much board for me to handle. Awesome input guys.

I haven't ridden either board but if you haven't used the cx yet it seems to make financial sense to get your money back. And if all your buddies already have cx's then I'm sure they will be more than happy to swap with you for a few hours.

Own both right now actually. But different years
Vapor = medium stiff free-style board, can be ridden all over Custom X = stiff advanced pipe/big air/all mountain free-style/free ride. They are both all mountain type decks, but the Custom X is much stiffer. Honestly don't think there is much of a weight difference between them anymore now that the Custom X has the Vaporskin topsheet as well. Personal preference really. |

get a claw hammer, gouge the base of your vapor.
Now that price isnt an issue, you can go out, ride them and see which one you like best. Youre welcome.

I'd say be a good friend, sell the Vapor and send him the cash
If I was the guy that gave you the board and then you turned around and sold it, when I came back I'd be asking for my $ or the board back, you dick. |

Is he going to want it back? If he does I would worry too much of damaging it, to ride it hard. Also I think a CX and V-roc are a really good pair of boards.

Vapor...just because it's a Vapor. It's like saying, should I keep the GTR or the 350Z? Or maybe a M3 vs 335...Porshe 911 or Boxster.

Dude, keep the vapor! A big reason to keep it is that returning the custom X to sierra is going to be WAY easier than trying the resell the "used" (as in, not in it's original packaging) Vapor. And the Vapor looks better in my opinion lol.

I totally would have done this, except i couldn't find anything to return the custom x in (card board packaging) I took it as god's way of saying i should keep the Custom X and the my return period is over. Anyways, i've always wanted a custom X. I think the graphics are totally my style, subtle with trees and crashing waves. |
