I bought an Analog hat from TruSnow and that didn't freeze up on me. Cotton doesn't freeze up nearly as fast as the bandanas do.

I rock forum.
I found it best to wear a base layer that has basically an extra long turtle neck. aha It is so warm and its long and it doesnt fall down. I hate bandanas and gators cause they are so loose and a nuisance! get the xtra long turtle neck! aha cheep! i got it for 10 i think on this website.. its lime green and dope!!!!! |

i use a bandanna, but sometimes they don't really stay in place.. might invest in a ninja mask soon... since its getting colder and colder.

I wear a beard beanie or a dickie that came with a winter hat that I got for christmas. I have never had the need for anything more than either of those.

I have those face masks with holes in them for breathing and the nose part, but I hate it cuz when u breathe, moisture still collects at the mouth area

Kinda, but more like when it snows and the material freezes. But I can see the moisture from breathing hard can play a part in freezing it. Happens when I wear my wronggear facemask on a pow day. |

Got the Coal FLT gator from here and it's AWESOME. Super comfy it's like wearing a beanie on your face. Never ever freezes up either.

I am using a full neck and cheek warmer from Bula, Norwegian company. It also covers the nose and mouth, with a mouth hole on it.

Beard don't really work that well. Mine just fills with ice and freezes me, so I need to find something good too. But I usually struggle for air when breathing through a face cover.

i cant remember what brand i got but i got mine at dick's and it is awesome especially if you wear a helmet. it is thiner material on top so it doesnt mess with wearing a helmet and its really thick and warm from the nose down to keep you very warm. they have quite a few there so just run by one or check online to see some.

I have the COAL neck gaitors. The MTF one keeps me warm and doesn't freeze up even when it's storming outside for me. |

Since it's been ridiculously cold and a slew of storms is coming up, I'm reviving this thread. I'm in the market of getting a face mask for storms and cold. Something besides the usual neoprene mask everyone wears. I was looking into Airhole face masks. Anyone have any one can comment on how good/sh*tty they are? I need a mask that doesn't freeze up....

I never wear a bandanna and always end up freezing. I'm probably gonna get one of those Dregen face masks cause they look sick. a balaclava would be nice for those blizzardy days too.

This is a good thread. I just used bandanas and when it's colder a full polyester balaclava from my DC jacket. Next season I want a proper thicker lower face cover.

if you have a local liquidation shop or something, you should buy one of those face masks. they're usually around 10$, as opposed to the ones you buy on the mountain which are like 40$

I always have issues with the bandana. I finally got the ninja mask looking deal with airholes. The bandana feels harder to breathe in to me. And cold days they freeze. I need all the warmth I can get coming from FL, if there's snow it's a cold day to me.

i find that the fleece warmer is too hot even when it's way cold. Thats why i'm trying to get something else to work. I just need something to break the wind.

I'm probably going to switch to a facemask from my Buff. It's better than nothing, but it gets easily soaked from either snow/ice or just condensation from exhaling. And the fleece ones were impossible to breathe through.

The availability of airhole bites. Not sure why their supply is so short, but I think I am going to give the UA a try.

I would definitely have to recommend the airhole facemasks. They are truly the best. The neff ones arent bad either.

I also don't recommend bandana. I have one and it freezes pretty quickly. On any serious cold day, you'll need full facemasks/baclavas. It's ok to look like a terrorist/ninja!

I have a balaclava from REI, which seems to work just fine. Also, it's not too thick and fits under a helmet. I think it's a seasonal item, though.
