I tried to do a search for a Mammoth Palooza, although maybe I didn't look hard enough, but has this ever been discussed? Anybody interested and how extensive does the planning get?

I think only socal riders would come For everyone else they'll have to fly, rent a car, then drive for 6hrs...not conducive for a palooza. |

How does a Palooza start? I've only been a member just last year, so I think I saw at least 4 different paloozas put on by Sierra experts or staff. Can anybody put on a palooza or is it staff/experts planned?

Mammoth does have an airport, so out of towners could actually fly there instead of LAX. However, there aren't that many flights and it shuts down during almost every storm.

It's planned by the staff of SS. You can plan a personal one with friends if you want and invite others that want to join. I think for the Mammoth airport...you have to fly into LAX then take another flight from LAX to Mammoth...so that's still extra work (doubt there's many direct flights from other airports). Plus Mammoth Mountain itself is on the expensive side of resorts. |

To be official Palooza, SS have to put it on b/c they sell the tickets on their site but I can't see how they would have a problem with you putting one on. It is a lot of work to put something like that together and plans a lot of planning and time on the phone. They made the meet up and ride section for that and if you want to start Jr palooza next year, I think the people in that area would come and have fun.

How does an initial interest list start for a Jr Mammoth Palooza? Also, would like to figure out those who would fly in vs drive? I mean for those who would drive, it would be more of the locals, like from LA and San Diego. I know most people from Sac or northern cali would just go to Tahoe, but anybody from North Cal driven down to Mammoth? I hope this post gets a lot of hits to get some real genuine interest.
As some members already mentioned, Mammoth sounds expensive...what exactly makes it more expensive than the other paloozas or resorts? The $80 lift tickets or the lodging? I know it's hard to find discount tix for Mammoth, but I'm sure there's a way to get a group discount. |

$92 lift tickets next season, the lodging that Mammoth Mountain offers is freaking expensive...have you ever looked online to see how far back the Mammoth Mountain lodge will set you back a night? I can't think of a lodge that's ski-in/ski-out that's not owned by Mammoth Mountain. Actually there is the Austria Hof lodge that's near Canyon Lodge where a good chunk of rooms could be rented out. You could start talking to a staff member and see if there is any interest, but the problem is Mammoth is just too far away for everyone. The locals won't fly so they'll have to drive 6 hrs and the flights for the non-locals would be a problem since there are so few flight options available to Mammoth Mountain airport. Plus I've heard it's the same driving time from the Bay Area to Mammoth so I can see why many would just stop at Tahoe and not go further down to Mammoth. Again you can see about planning a palooza by yourself or contacting staff to see if there is any interest. This year they did 5 stops to commemorate their 5 yr anniversary...not sure if they'll do 5 stops again next year. |

Thanks for your input so far community, I started another thread under the ask the staff section, but from a community point of view, there's some interest. What about issues, besides transportation and expenses? How about how many people normally go to a palooza?

I heard CO there was about 100 people and the SP one about 70? The other two paloozas I think were a lot smaller. The other issue is does staff (aka Jenn) want to plan another palooza since it looks like it's a lot of work calling the resort and negotiating prices, setting up a product, etc. If the interest is there for a palooza by SS I'll go since I have an mvp pass to mammoth anyway. |
