Would be nice if we were rewarded for promoting Sierrasnowboards to our friends. I have been telling all my friends about this site and a lot of them now shop with Sierra!!

Same, though since it's such a tight knit community they would probably be dishing out a shit load of rewards. Would be great though, plant the seed.

Your exactly right as soon as i read thread that came to mine... It could work if you only got like 10 points once your friend earned 200 so it wouldnt be worth it to spammers |

Sierra use to give points when you refer a friend and they created an account. I think they did away with it about a year ago or so.

Yeah, referrals would have to be based off something like purchases. Say, get XX points for referring a member and they spend more than $200 or something.

Sierra is plenty generous enough for points. I don't think this is necessary.

points are overated. They take forever to amount to anything worthwhile, even
if you did all the posts, reviews, referring and stuff to the limit each
day
...and if you do get to 1500, by the time you get there, the points system could be gone again |

The points aren't there so that you get free stuff...the points are there to encourage people to actively participate in the online community. Don't forget you also get points with your purchases, so the more you spend, the faster you can acquire said free stuff!
There is a lot of good knowledge to be shared here (not to mention the ridiculously discounted gear), but if you only want free stuff consider that with the time invested in logins/forum posts/etc you could just get a job and buy some goggles and a shirt. Would take you far less time! |

Points are hard to accumulate unless u are buying a lot of things. Even after spending $600 you still only get $60 points. Referral points would be nice, i would suggest only getting points if the person you referred actually makes purchases from sierra, not just if they join. Oh wells, guess i'll just have to keep on logging on each day. Lol

This fixation on points is getting annoying.
Just stick around and sooner rather than later you'll have accumulated whatever your goal was.

Personally, I don't think it is necessary for receiving points for friends. Member points it similar to a loyalty program/frequent buyers, and I think what Sierra already has it great. |

Referral points can easily lead to abuse (fake accounts, etc.) unless a system is implemented (get point when the new referral reaches a quota). If it works out, it'll be a great way to get new members and reward current members for their referral.

I think it's pretty easy to spend $600 here! It may only net you 60 points but that's 2 months of daily logins so I'd say it's a timesaver if that's your goal. |

Referral points only work without abuse is if the referred member actively does something.

l dont think thats going to work out. ppl will start creating multiple accounts, which equates to increase bandwidth of SS= SS infrastructure upgrade= more $$ so its a lose lose situation for them. Great idea though

When I saw the Title I thought, maybe there is something to this, then after reading what people are saying, I think the only one that makes sense is that if your referral actually spent money. Maybe like 1 point for every $50 they buy. In any case, this is the last time I am clicking on a thread that has POINTS in the title.

I'm very surprised this hasn't already come up with Sierra.
I think that you should get 5 points for each member you get that joins and then like what Blur said, you should get a point for every $50 or $100 that user spends! What a motive to invite people. |

Potentially that could work as it's be a waste of time people trying to abuse the system, but with everything related to points there's a big percentage of pople constantly trying to abuse the system, 2 points (pun intended )1. Listen to DC Domain (well this time anyway ) you'll get a lot more out of Sierra by becoming an active, honest participating member than by being a points wh0re2.What kind of person are you if you weren't going to tell your 'friends' about Sierra anyway? ![]() "Hey I found this awesome site but I'm not gonna share it with my buddies" ![]() |

I think the best compromise would be to tie referral points to a minimum purchase amount.
1: Refer a friend. 2: Once your friend's purchases total over $100 (through either single or multiple purchases) you get 10 points. It would be a one-time allotment of 10 points. That would remove the incentive to create shill accounts, while still encouraging the recruitment of quality users. |

I'd say yes, purchase amounts of friend's purchase converted into points would be fair play with no fake accounts created. Though SS has enough incentives even now. Good stuff SS people! |

Forgive me if I repeat anything..I didnt read the whole thread. I dont think they need to give points for friend referrals. The only thing I could think of that would be close is if friends buy items, then we could get points. Honestly at this point..(no pun intended), the points system has been driven into the ground. We dont need another way to get more points, to those that have been here for a long time, the points have become a PITA. It would be nice to see this community loosen up some where people could post at free will w/o being called point whores..and where the point whores could be weeded out. I agree, useless posts to gain points is annoying, but at the same time, threads and topics is what keeps forums going. Damn I went off topic
. Ahem..no points for friends joining...its overkill...lol |

I think referring friends is doing a service for your friends, but I don't think you should get any points for it. SS forums, and site in general, benefits everybody involved due to the wealth of information available. Even if they did away with the point system altogether SS would still be awesome. You can't put a price/point on valuable, personal experience.

I'd say referring your friends and maybe getting points when they purchased something would be the best way to do it, everything else would just involve shill/spam accounts for point whoring purposes.

it takes around 300 (about 10 months) of days of full forum posts to get to that 1500 excluding any purchases and reviews. So getting beyond 1500 to the next level takes like 2 years or more.
In light of this perspective, and acknowledging the fact that the point system caters to people with money (barely) and in fact caters the most to the people who were here before points became much harder to come by, some added methods of acquiring points other than spending cash or year(s)-long logins would make the possibility of reaching the higher levels look less... bleak. |

haha, i mean wouldn't we all want more points? but i think in this case the potential cons of a referral system outweigh the potential good. plus the coding and working of the system to prevent people from taking advantage of it isn't worth it. let's just take what we got and go with it.

thank you for the wonderful contribution to this idea haha.
You shouldn't need a reason to refer your friends other than telling them about an awesome forum. The discounts for being an active member are a bonus just like the daily giveaway.
Hell I refered a friend to the site who was interested in trying to learn how to board and guess what. After about a week he won his first snowboard ever from the giveaway (jerk..). So i think that is a pretty sweet deal for me because now i have someone new to ride with me.

Just save your pennies and for every 10 bucks they give you a point. Really, its not a bad setup. Just use your friends gear and write alot of review about how you demoed the gear and your reviews on it :) And 10% off in addition to the sales price AND free snowboard give aways, arent really a bad combination at all for a website.

it is a good way to get more points by combining purchases with friends. However, if a referral system was to come in, to negate people just creating heaps of accounts that remain inactive, sierra can only reward points for those who join and then also make a purchase. But having said that, it basically renders my first point redundant.
