Hes on medical suspension for 6 months.

Im gonna be honest here. I have never liked faber whatsover. But the heart he showed in the cage against aldo was something everyone should look up to.  99% of fighters wouldve called it a night after the thrid round with how bad his leg was. He hung in there and finished the fight for all the fans. I want my kids to grow up and be like urijah.

Props to aldo for stopping the amount of leg kickes in the champ rounds tho. True repsect right there.

Heres a pic of fabers leg after the match.

Urijah is not retiring. He is going to Thailand to learn better kick defense.

Aldo is a freak of nature. I have never seen a guy throw power shots as fast and accurate as him with both hands and feet (all 3 are rare)

That fight also showed how much of a gentleman Aldo is. Aldo could have put down even more of a beating.

agree - was totally anti-faber before he lost to brown...but I'm usually against the undefeated.

fact is, faber was extremely entertaining in his comeback against assuncao.  He tried so hard (and won) that I bought the ppv vs aldo.

no matter what, faber's still near the top of the food chain with bankable style...usually

Without a doubt Faber is a stud and an incredible fighter/competitor.  That said, I think his unorthodox style and ad hoc fighting tendencies finally really hurt him in a fight.  He didn't help his cause by standing and banging with Aldo early in the fight when his takedowns and wrestling are two of his outstanding assets.  Regardless, I have never seen a fight where he didn't put everything out there for the fans with a never quit attitude.

Aldo is even better on the ground than he is on his feet. Faber couldnt even get close enough for a power TD. He tried numerous times but he just couldnt find the range. Aldo has the best chance to win belts in 2 or 3 different weight classes in the next few years. He is what BJ penn shouldve been at this stage.

Wow, what a beating. That was the first time I've seen Aldo in action and I am a fan. Definitely has great sportsmanship for not making that beating any worse than it obviously could have been.

i literally just read an article 5 minutes before this thread all about retirement or no retirement.

Interestingly enough, he might consider dropping to 135lb weight class

It's nice that casual fans got the chance to see WEC.
This was the first time for a lot of people seeing Aldo fight.

man he sure got chopped down, first breaking his hand(s?) against brown the second time and still staying in to the decision, then not being able to walk but staying all through 5 rounds with aldo.  dude can take a beating, i hope he comes back and makes another run soon.

on another note, i was super excited for that ppv, but again it was a letdown.  not as bad as what silva did in april, but cerrone tapping in the first sure was a letdown

I agree that Aldo is a very accomplished ground fighter but after Faber's left wheel was bruised and beaten, he still seemed relatively uncommitted to attempting effective take-downs.  I saw him try, but I just don't think he prepared for the scenario being resolved to continue to give the fans what they wanted by standing and banging...

Guess I need to watch this fight, I had to work so I missed it.

Urijah just isn't the best anymore simple as that, all great fighters time has an end at the top, but his accomplishments will not be overlooked.

Cry Faber's undisciplined skills are starting to show.  When he was younger he could get away with it, now look at what has happened.  A disciplined fighter has skills to adapt to the opponent.  He can't use athletic ability anymore!

what are you talking about? He cant use his athletic ability now?  that doesnt even make sense.

I wuldnt say that Faber is undisciplined. It mightve looked that way against aldo but aldo would make anyone look like that.  WHen you break your hands and continue to put on a fight like he did against brown thats discipline. When someone has ahold of your leg going for a takedown and you knee him with the other leg while keeping your balance, thats discipline.

Hes still one of the best and definitely has time to learn from this one fight and come back twice as good.

Faber is definitely athletic and sincerely committed to putting on a great fight.  However, he is a very unorthodox fighter and while this can be an asset against most fighters - against the truly elite fighter I think it is much more of a liability.

I mean... breaking both hands in a fight isn't just unlucky, it is unheard of -- and the Aldo fight really showed how critical Urijah's speed is to his fighting style.  If anything, two very different fighters in Brown and Aldo have shown that you can beat Faber if you force him into conventional stand up.

I think Aldo backed off at the end when he saw Faber could barely stand. I thought both fighters showed class and heart. Maybe Pulver-Faber II or Brown-Faber III.
