i have friends that go all the time, its only worth it if you ride park, like for me it would be worth a 2.5 hours drive because all i like is rails and jumps (and pow) but if you arnt going intending to hit rails and jumps its no guna be very entertaining

^ what he said.  I drove an hour and a half and stayed for about 3 and i thought it was worth it.

snowflex was pretty legit. takes a little while to get used to, but once you got it down it really does feel a lot like boarding on snow.  I kept forgetting that you cant make real sharp turns though, so Id try and make a turn to hit a feature on the other side of the park and my board would just slip out causing my hands and upper body to hit the ground and become completely soaked.

ended up with some rugburn on my elbows/forearms but all in all it was worth it

Also, I found it a little hard to get my speed checks right off the jumps.  I went off the smaller jump on the left a few times, and thought I was going the same speed another time but ended up launching way too far and eating crap at the bottom.  Then when I went again I felt like I slowed up just a tad, and barely cleared the knuckle.  Given this was my first attempt at snowflex, so with a little practice im sure id get it right.

It was definitely fun, just takes a little getting used to

how is that stuff on the base of your board, and would you even need a normal base as wax wouldn't help

I didnt notice any damage to my base, it actually seemed more like it was cleaning it.  I did take my old board though as I didnt want to trust the material before trying it first hand.  And I dont think a wax would help, id assume itd just get taken right off, but im not positive.

I went when it snowed also and it was very fun. The ground was very forgiving and actually would bounce you up if you fell. It was so much fun. Wax doesn't do much because its not needed. There is no damage to your board at all.

I went today.... well yesterday (its 1:10am here on the EC) It was ok, but its definitely not snow, its not quite ats slick and smooth as snow, and when you turn its like you are drifting because your edge cant dig in. Initiating turns is a lot more difficult to do than it is on snow and the carpet burn is no fun either. haha Im still pretty new at snowboarding so I only hit the box that was 4 foot long, 3 foot wide and 3 inches high, but the other features looked like they would be fun when I get better. The quarter pipe is big, dont let the youtube videos and pictures fool you. I rode up on the quarter pipe a little and fell and completely humiliated my self, but it was worth trying. The hardest thing I found about it was the tow rope that pulls you up the mountain, im a big guy and it took me a while to get the hang of it.

Final review: If you are a freestyle rider that likes big kickers and jibs, or if you live fairly close, go for it. If you are a noob like me who just likes to cruise, just chill, winter will be here before you know it, but if you happen to be in the area, definitely give it a try.

wow i wish they would put one of them things in in australia. it's so hot and dry here usually...its a wonder there's any snow at all!

you think australia, you think kangaroos, beaches, diving, etc. not ski/snowboard.

that artificial mountain - it just looks awesome.

You should try it, its a lot of fun. Its just a little hard to get used to, especially if you've only been snowboarding twice before you go. haha

Morgan Hill's a cheap location (by Bay Area standards) and along a major highway in 101.  Mt. Diablo's a pain in the ass to get to and anything built there wouldn't have much development around.  Also lower Peninsula + South bay = money.  Enough said.

Snowflex does not look at all like what I thought up-close.  Interested to check it out.  Probably will jump on it at some point if that Morgan Hill location gets built.

My sister lives in Charlotte, and I was thinkin of swinging by there to cure my itch, since I was planning a trip to go see her.  The only thing I'm afraid of is the cherry burns.  I already know I would fall a ton.  I'm sure it would be fun..but I dont need to be puttin neosporin on my whole body afterwards...lol

I just checked out the website for the Morgan Hill snowflex, looks interesting, but I'm not sure how the rug burns will be looking like for me. When its done I'm definitely willing to try it out, but wonder how much different it is going to be from snow.

its not too bad, they require you to wear long pants, long sleeves and gloves, I fell a lot and I have very little carpet burn on my knees.

What kind of pants do you have to wear?
snowboarding gear? or jeans?

oops found out..
"Proper attire is mandatory and includes long-sleeve shirts, pants and gloves. Windbreaker material is recommended.

Expect clothing to become damp due to the slope’s misting system."

Snowflex Sucks. Its like snowboarding on one of those green foot whipping mats, or astro turf. I personally hate it, but it beats not snowboarding at all!

I'm considering going to the advanced riding summer camp there it's $340 for 5 days/4 nights and it includes riding/"coaching"/activities/room/food which isn't bad considering a motel room alone would run you at least $60/night. I consider it the walmart high-cascade equivalent.

Anyway has anyone actually gone to the camp there? How is the coaching?

I figure if you can learn new tricks on this porcupine carpeting you can sure as hell get it down just as easily if not easier on snow where you will have more edge control.

This might be OK for people close by, unfortunately it is sold out for this summer.

I went to snowflex camp, it takes about 4 hours to get fully used to the snowflex material. After that you can learn tons of tricks. I learned a few things personally (360 out of a rail) and one of my friends who had never inverted learned 5 new inverts. This place is great for progression in the summer if you have time and patience (and long sleeves :D)
