there are night and day differences between some peoples opinions on union. some love them (like me) and some hate them and think theyre junk. its pretty weird to me that people can say such different things about the same bindings, but whatever.
they are made with pretty much the best plastics in the world from dupont.. thats what they specialize in. they also use a lot of other unique materials and processes. they are the only company to make their own hardware out of grade 8 aluminum instead of grade 4, they use extruded anodized aluminum heelcups... its only compromised once, rather than being bent and pressed 3, 4, or even 5 times, so its strong. they use magnesium ratchets which are twice as light and 4 times as strong as aluminum, so on and so forth. i personally love them. the sierra contacts are going to ride pretty much like contacts, which are a slightly less responsive binding but theyre not super soft or anything. if you dont prefer something on the more responsive side then they should be fine. if you want something a little more responsive, more like a general mid-flex bindings, try forces. i have owned a lot of forces, as well as burton cartels/triads, and those three are all very similar in response. if you like how triads feel, i would go with forces.

I wouldn't recommend sierra contacts for all mtn ridie + jibs, go with forces. they are hard to come by right now but just wait until the 2011 ones come out.

SLs used to be about the same as forces, just lighter and more technical, but the newer ones are actually significantly stiffer. they rate forces at 7/10 and SLs at 9/10 now. if you want something stiffer than your triads (i assume thats what youve ridden, since you asked how they compare), then sure, SLs.. but if not, forces are your best bet.

Just wondering why you don't recommend the contacts is there a specific reason or just that the forces are better??? The contacts come in at a fairly reasonable price and are comparable to some of the top bindings?

spenser I have riden the triads and do like them and you say to go with the forces.. I was wondering how the cartels are comparable to the two i dont know anybody who has these so was just needing some feedback and opinions on them. My two options that i have narrowed it down to was the cartels and the contacts.

owned/ridden cartels and triads. as far as response goes, they feel the same to me, and everything else might as well be the same too. between the two, if i were buying one or the other, id buy cartels just because there is nothing about triads that makes the ride feel different to me when it comes down to it so id have no reason to spend more on triads. its often said in some way or another that forces are unions cartel. all three bindings are solid mid flex bindings that can pretty much be ridden by anyone anywhere and enjoyed, unless the rider has very strong preferences toward soft or stiff bindings. if you like triads and cartels and want unions that ride similarly, the forces are the most similar, hands down. or datas, but in reality those are just themed forces.

i think these bindings are awesome. Because of the staff pick sale, i almost brought a board if they included these bindings on sale. Didnt want to buy board and ended up waiting for these. These bindings performs just as well as my cartels in my opinion.

I have a pair of the union sierra contacts. I love them. They are a nice all around binding that is a little on the softer side. Allows you to tear it up in the park, but also hit the mountain if you want.

Yeah, but all they have left in stock are M/L for Union-Sierra Contacts. If you have larger than size 10 boots you're SOL. Gotta find something else to go with the Stunt, sounds like we've gotta wait until the 2011s come out. Uhh, there will be 2011 Union-Sierra Contacts, right?

i loved my unions but found that the straps seemed to wear down tear and buckles lost their sprint after maybe 20 days on the snow, and also you need to use some lock tite for some of the hand screws as i lost a few on the snow one day and it wasnt fun riding down to the bottom with only one foot strapped in!
