We'll go to beech or Wintergreen, it usually depends on which place has better conditions when we go. Lifties are only $30 at Beech on weekdays which is pretty nice, but WG has the flex ticket and doesn't stop midday to groom. WG is $47 on weekdays and that $17 can go to gas. For weekends Beech is $60 vs. $67 for WG, but again WG has that awesome flex ticket with no midday grooming.

What level are you?

I go to Lynchburg College! I haven't been able to get over to Snowflex very much this semester though because I've been wicked busy. If I manage to get over there and ride, I'll post it up. It would be wicked cool to ride with someone who is also on Trusnow.

That's good Big Red was so slow, but not crowded at all.
As we begin November, temperature will take steps to cooler weather. Expect a pleasant but cool Monday. Tuesday will have increasing clouds late and even cooler temperatures. Wednesday will be cloudy with light rain developing, rain will increase Wednesday night. Thursday a front will move through with rain and falling temperatures by afternoon and evening. Snow showers and flurries will be possible Thursday night and more likely Friday. Snow showers and flurries will be more prominent on the west side of the Appalachians and end during the day Saturday. Friday and Saturday will be VERY COLD for early November.

See the RWC 2011 Photo Contest Winners Page for a peek at what's coming in the new calendar.

And our answer is... The RaysWeather.Com Fearless Forecast for Winter 2010-2011 has been unleashed. Enjoy!

Monday

Hi: 48 Lo: 38

Scattered clouds; Cooler; Light SE winds
Tuesday

Hi: 49 Lo: 40

Increasing PM clouds; Cooler again; SE wind to 5 mph
Wednesday

Hi: 48 Lo: 40

Clouds & fog; Cool; Light daytime rain, more rain at night; Light SE wind
Thursday

Hi: 41 Lo: 27

Cloudy; Falling temperatures; Daytime rain changing to nighttime snow showers
Friday

Hi: 29 Lo: 20

Mostly cloudy; Cold; Snow showers or flurries; Blustery

Further Out

Saturday - Mostly cloudy; Snow showers & snow flurries ending; Continued cold & blustery; High in the upper 20s; Low in the lower 20s
Sunday - Mostly clear; Not as cold; High in the upper 30s; Low in the lower 30s

Forecast Discussion

A front moved through from the NW Sunday night. High pressure centered in the Great Lakes will nose down the east side of the Appalachians today and Tuesday.

Skies will remain mostly clear today, but temperatures will be 8° to 10° cooler than Sunday. Subtract another 3°-5° Tuesday with increasing clouds late. Temperatures will be cooler on the east side of the Appalachians than on the west side.

The more "exciting" part of the forecast involves energy in Texas and Louisiana. It will move east across the Gulf Coast then round the corner and move up the Atlantic Coast. As this occurs, a sharp trough will dig into the Eastern US. Exactly how these features interact will determine our weather for the rest of this week; a range of possibilities is still in play. The latest guidance appears to keep the TX/LA energy shunted slightly to the south/east preventing this from being a major winter-weather event here; however, from 4 days out, small changes can have large implications.

Wednesday will be cloudy and cool with light rain developing by afternoon. Expect more rain Wednesday night and Thursday. A front (the leading edge of colder air) will move through Thursday. Daytime highs Thursday will probably occur in the morning with falling afternoon/evening temperatures. Rain showers will probably change to snow showers Thursday night.

Friday, low pressure will deepen along the Mid Atlantic moving up the New England Coast. We'll be in a strong, cold NW flow. Expect snow showers and flurries especially on the west side of the Appalachians. Snow showers and flurries will taper off during the day Saturday. Higher elevations on the west side of the Appalachians stand the best chance for accumulating snow with much less at lower elevations on the east side.

Friday and Saturday will be very cold for the first week of November. Skies will clear Saturday night. Sunday will be seasonably cool but much milder than the previous two days.

Even his enemy’s list him as there emergency contact.

The waiting is getting to me, I usually go to Beech and they keep updating their FB status and it's driving me crazy.  I'm ready for the season to start, but I know just about everyone is ready for it to start.

tell me about it...i've been looking at and working right on the slopes everyday. its kind of like torture being on the mountain but not being able to ride. i hit up beech a few times a year...that's where most of my friends go, but i get a season pass to sugar for $100 so i definitely take advantage of it.

It's raining outside and I'm sitting inside with my boots on thinking of snowboarding.  People in the office just dont understand, they do think it's funny when I walk down the hall and they can hear me coming.  Hopefully just a few more weeks.

Not that it really means that much, but Beech is reporting snow.  Now if we can just get the cold weather to stay.

not a problem... I went Sunday and Monday and the conditions were surprisingly good...no bare spots at all on the slope that was open to 3/4. Had to get in as many runs as possible in the few days because its gonna be close to 60 degrees everyday for the rest of the week and they will have to close again like they do every year. Can't wait til everything gets going fullspeed...

Yup. We got a few inches last weekend at the resorts, but the SE has the best snowmaking systems in the country (we have to with only 60"/year natural snow). Sugar has been open every day since last weekend, and Cat was only open for the weekend. But the warmer temps will likely force closures for both spots.

If they are actually open, I think me and a few friends are going to head up.

I will keep checking the weather. Supposedly the cold front coming in tomorrow may produce some snow Thursday - Saturday, which would make Sunday ideal for this event.

Keep posting as plans change...would loved to have a beer with a few of ya!

I live in Boone and work on Sugar...there is no way any of the slopes will be open this weekend...Sugar started making snow on Tuesday but stopped later in the day after looking further out in the forecast (sunny and mild/mid 50's on top) If Sugar isn't making then then App definitely isn't...it's usually about 10 degrees warmer in Blowing Rock...but maybe winter will get here and stay sometime soon....
