It looks like it is finally going to get colder, I'm ready for the season to start.

As we begin November, temperature will take steps to cooler weather. Expect a pleasant but cool Monday. Tuesday will have increasing clouds late and even cooler temperatures. Wednesday will be cloudy with light rain developing, rain will increase Wednesday night. Thursday a front will move through with rain and falling temperatures by afternoon and evening. Snow showers and flurries will be possible Thursday night and more likely Friday. Snow showers and flurries will be more prominent on the west side of the Appalachians and end during the day Saturday. Friday and Saturday will be VERY COLD for early November.

Forecast Discussion

A front moved through from the NW Sunday night. High pressure centered in the Great Lakes will nose down the east side of the Appalachians today and Tuesday.

Skies will remain mostly clear today, but temperatures will be 8° to 10° cooler than Sunday. Subtract another 3°-5° Tuesday with increasing clouds late. Temperatures will be cooler on the east side of the Appalachians than on the west side.

The more "exciting" part of the forecast involves energy in Texas and Louisiana. It will move east across the Gulf Coast then round the corner and move up the Atlantic Coast. As this occurs, a sharp trough will dig into the Eastern US. Exactly how these features interact will determine our weather for the rest of this week; a range of possibilities is still in play. The latest guidance appears to keep the TX/LA energy shunted slightly to the south/east preventing this from being a major winter-weather event here; however, from 4 days out, small changes can have large implications.

Wednesday will be cloudy and cool with light rain developing by afternoon. Expect more rain Wednesday night and Thursday. A front (the leading edge of colder air) will move through Thursday. Daytime highs Thursday will probably occur in the morning with falling afternoon/evening temperatures. Rain showers will probably change to snow showers Thursday night.

Friday, low pressure will deepen along the Mid Atlantic moving up the New England Coast. We'll be in a strong, cold NW flow. Expect snow showers and flurries especially on the west side of the Appalachians. Snow showers and flurries will taper off during the day Saturday. Higher elevations on the west side of the Appalachians stand the best chance for accumulating snow with much less at lower elevations on the east side.

Friday and Saturday will be very cold for the first week of November. Skies will clear Saturday night. Sunday will be seasonably cool but much milder than the previous two days.

 

Sugar today at 4pm...there was a good 6 inches or so on the ground, mostly manmade, but looks like they will try and open tomorrow. Starting to snow pretty hard now, roads are covered up on the top of the mountain...They will definitely be making snow throughout the night...See ya out there
