1st thought! OUTCH!!! I shtooked big time, and that really hurts! I can't breath... did I just break a rib?!! I rest for 5-10 and do it again...
I (try) to never leave without a do-over and getting a clean one to keep the good memory alive. Otherwise, all I'll remember is how much that hurt not how much fun it was! And that will put me back not forward.
What helps is watching MUCH bigger jumps POV (youtube), so when I see mine it looks much easier.
This year, all I wanted was to do and land jumps. Not 100% there with grabs and what not, but close. Had sooo much fun at it, that I started hitting boxes and things! Still a newb... but at least I know I can do it. I hurt my shoulder on a box, but stil wanna do it again.
Next year I'm planning for much bigger things! At least that's teh plan... will see how it goes.
Start small and build on it...
Cheers...

Most of the time, just holding my grab or spotting a landing or something but occasionally I think, "uh oh I'm leaning back too farrrrrr...." SPLAT

My biggest problem is overthinking in the approach, thinking I'm going to fast, or to slow etc, once I'm in the air I just focus. Problem is when I'm learning new tricks the psych out in the approach makes it hard.
I found the best way to overcome that for me was to do a jump I knew a few times over, when not many people were around and just practice something like methods if I'm learning a new grab or 180's if I'm trying to learn to do a grab with a spin until I had the approach perfect. Takes a bit longer before I'm actually trying the trick, but I seem to get it alot quicker! |

I have a hard time on the approach as I generally check speed WAY too much and end up not getting the air I wanted. Usually happens after a previous mistake though, like popping too late and landing nose forward, or catching more air than anticipated and thus panicking in the air and messing up the landing. I think all this will be fixed over time though and repetition. I just have to jump MORE and just go for it. Same with anything that you want to get used to.

the best way to solve that problem is to take a look around to other people speed. When you take notice about their speed and how they finish the jump, you will have an idea of how much speed should you have before jumping. Bend your knees, pop it and grab it!!! ^^ |

you cannot overthink the jump or when you go off you will be like oh crap im gonna fall. You just have to go for it an whatever happens happens.

ya it is inevitable that you will fall but you just gotta keep trying and adjusting the way you are jumping and/or landing. Practice makes perfect

For that it will help landing on one edge not flat. A lot harder especially for straight airs but start gradual until its comfortable. It's hard to think about it for the few seconds or less you're in the air so just think ahead --> "I'm going gradually to carve toeside - or - heelside once i land." |

I am definitely the guy who likes to go last. A, you get to check everyone else and know how fast you need to approach. B, I always like to finish off whatever the group is doing. First is good except when you mess up by coming up too short or something else.

Hardest part for me is the first approach and sizing up a jump, translating how fast other people are going to how fast I need to go to not knuckle or land even shorter than that.

The approach is also the biggest problem for me.
The thing is the approach is where you have the most control. You have a choice to get more speed or slow down, but once you are in the air there is little that can be done. Jumps are way fun though but make sure not to hit the knuckle so I try to get a little more speed than needed. |

Positive state of mind seems to be key.
You might want to check out http://snowboardjedi.com/ I don't own this but the sample lessons seem to be helpful. |

I found that if I think about a jump, I don't takeoff or land the way I wanted to. The entire time I was dropping in I would think more about wether or not I was going to make it off the jump alive. I found Out it was alot easier if I just went for it, not really thinking about the jump. I also have a friend go first to get a feel on how much speed you need. I know that seems mean, but my friends are the ones to always be the firat to do something.

After the approach, I try to just blank out and let my body handle the jump. If I get too caught up in the speed of the approach, I sometimes skid brake too close to the lip and end up off axis, leading to a bail. I've found that If I accept the jump, regardless of the approach, I can usually stick the landing, even if I overshoot, or undershoot. I'm still in good position to absorb the impact and ride away. It's worked so far. I fall much less often.

I've never understood the purpose of getting high or buzzed besides the lack of fear factor but even then you're not even feeling balanced or maybe even wanna puke.

For some reason, I like to go last when I jump.
I just feel weird when I am trying something hard and my friends are behind me watching. |

It's just awkward to try anything when anyone is watching period for me, which sucks because most of the park features are right next to the lifts.

When I first started boarding I always thought like this. Just didn't want others to think I was a total poser. The Irony is I kinda was a poser. Never got any better, so one season I just decided that I was going to hike and work on getting better and that I wasn't up there to prove anything to anyone but myself.. Now I just don't even care what other boarders/skiers think. Most of the time anyway, sometimes I see local pros goin off the jumps and just kinda wait for them to pass. ha |

I pray that I don't fall.. and then I fall. I have a hard time landing, its always on my mind as I approach, 50% of the time I'll get the landing the other half I'll botch the landing.
