I've had a go- got all the way across then ate it on the exit... A friend of mine did it without strapping in and also switch and came through with honours

I watched the pond skimming event on the last day of the season @ Squaw this year, it was super entertaining. Lots of crazy costumes, beer flowing, big crowd cheering. It even snowed a little bit. I don't think I'd ever actually participate though LOL

Cheered a friend on while he attempted it this year - was definitely a blast watching everyone with funny costumes and having a great time.  Not sure if I'd want to do it though - hate the thought of getting soaked in chilly weather, especially the boots/socks.

It looks like you'd have a better chance on a board than on skis, but some of those boarders ate it hard!  Favorite is the banana and gorilla.

My favorite part was when the guy dressed up as a lifeguard jumped in to save the snorkler guy lol.

That looks pretty sweet to do, but I would absolutely hate to go into that cold ass water. I think the fear of getting drenched would screw me up and I'd go swimming.

Every year at Mt. Washington a slush cup is held. Dress up as whacky as possible and try to skim across the pond. Most style points win. Thumbs Up

my old resort does it, so many people eat it.
it seems that all the people that enter in them, are some of the worst riders on the mountain. i never do it because, when you dont make it across and just sink, you just ruined any opportunity to ride the rest of the day, because you are now soaked.

its a competition, in most places, everyone that makes it across, goes back up the hill, but now they all have to start at a lower spot (less speed) and that repeats til whoever lasts the longest. (thats the only way ive seen it done, i wouldnt doubt if some places just do it for fun tho, and you just try to make it across with as much speed as you want)

They do one at the end of the season at Kirkwood too. It's very entertaining to watch... definitely a crowd favorite. As many others have said, I doubt I'd ever try it.... too many things to go wrong. Dead

What's with the girls taking their boards off and jumping in?  If you're going to go for it, go for it.  If you just want to jump in, wait till the end.  You're just making girls look bad.
