Has anyone been up to Baker recently? I'm going up on Sunday and am hoping the snow pack is good right off the H.Meadows parking lot.

it should be good. I was in the backcountry of the north shore mountains on the weekend and they usually have less of a snowpack than Baker, and there was a fair bit of snow.
Have fun. I wish I could join you

If your refering to the Mt. Baker in WA, then it is considered a really good mountain. Great snow always but people always complain about how far of a drive it is.

It's not that far of a drive from your neighbours just over the border. It's just over an hour from my door to the lift.

The trip is not too bad, usually about 3 hrs from most Seattle neighborhoods. I take the scenic route on the way back, using highway 9 instead of I-5.
This is one of the easier spots to build kickers as there are many spots within short hiking distance from the upper parking lot. There is a rock face that is seen in old school vids like "Stomping Grounds", "Brotherhood", and a few 411 vids from back in the days. Remember the Joey McGuire BS-180 method to indy? That was shot on a slop not 10 minutes from the Meadows parking lot, although they were assisted by Snow mobiles ( not usually allowed ). The spot is also good late in the season, as there is a glacier off table mtn, which is atop Artist point, which can be hiked to relatively easy once they clear the road from the Mt. Baker parking lot up to Artist point. Check out http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Northwest/Baker/ArtistPoint/ for latest updates on opening. If you get there right as they open, many good spots to do pond skims are available right below the parking lots. You could build a small gap over the 2 lane road right after the snowblower makes it through. All in all, check it out if you are close, just don't forget to bring lots of salt and a garbage bag! Plan on staying no longer than 4pm on Table Mtn, it gets dark incredibly fast... |

Looots of snow up there still.
Went up last sunday, snow pack right off Heather Meadows parking lot. Artist Point road is still under 4-6 ft of snow, and they will not begin clearing that until July 6th, according to WA DOT. Ton's of good hiking and riding to be had still, with unusually cold temps hitting western WA this week. Took my family up, was a bit windy, so spent a good hour and a half building a wind shelter and cooking ramen (bring a stove, no fires allowed). Didn't have much time left to build a kicker by myself, so I did some lines down to the river and back. Built a tiny lip off a cat track for some goofing around on the way down. Headed down to Timberline for Father's day gift, but will be headed back up to Baker to build a real kicker, hopefully with some help. |

Where is the best place to stay if you are traveling into Bellingham airport? Bellingham or are there hotels/rentals closer to the mountain?
