    Posted: Jun/20/2010 at 8:12pm
I'm watching a miller beer commercial during the ball game that is hyping their new vortex bottle.

The inside of the neck is spiraled like the twist on the inside of a rifle barrel.

I thought I hope they have it spiraled in the direction that water spins for our side of the equator.

So, is miller making the new bottles with the twist going the other way for their beer shipments south of the equator????

You're working with a pretty strong assumption that anyone outside the united states drinks Miller beer.

Personally, i think this was a great idea when i saw the commercial. But now that i think about it, most people drink from the bottle and they don't pour it into a class.

I don't think anyone actually thinks that Miller is a great beer, at least, it's pretty much a basic beer that most people will drink.  I've never met someone who had a miller and right after was raving about how great that beer was.  So I don't think it's really over rated....probably just rated

This is about as useless as the coors wide mouth can or side vent thing. Who are these people out there who are having trouble getting the beer out of the can or bottle. It's gonna take more than a vortex to keep miller lite from tasting like crap. What's next a magical taste unicorn with each twelve pack?

I saw one of those vortex bottles a few weeks ago and I don't see how such mildly raised grooves are going to actually spiral the beer. They're raised like 0.5mm and a bottle opening is almost 20mm.

Just another marketing gimmick.

I don't care about the Vortex.  All I care about is . . .  if I'm a little light on cash, which 12 pack can I walk out of here with for less then $10!!!  heheheh

I agree with superorb.  The beer won't follow the grooves, it will just pour out like a normal bottle.  Pretty absurd graphic on the commercial making it look like it will follow the grooves.

They should concentrate on making the beer taste better by the time it hits your mouth, not try to change how bad beer pours.

This and other stupid beer tricks:

However I have to disagree with whoever lumped wide mouth cans in with these stupid innovations.  Wide mouth cans are way better than regular cans and pretty much all the manufacturers are using them now.

I guess they were taste testing too much wine or something.

People sniff, swirl, and gargle to bring out the flavor and then spit out the wine.

They want you to taste how good the hops are in the beer i guess.

When the bottle that your beer is in is your marketing strategy, you can pretty much assume that the beer sucks ass.

Having said that, the people that see it on TV will be ordering more because it is on TV.

that's how its been done for years... they spend all their money on marketing because it is the exact same beer as Bud, Coors....  it's all watered down drinkability! haha!

Triple Hops....   Makes NO DIFFERENCE... almost every beer is triple hops

It's probably just a marketing gimmick to give their beer a push for summertime. Miller has never really floated my boat. I mean, I'll drink it, but there are better chugging beers out there. Coors light FTW.

Does anybody remember Coke doing something like this back in the 90's?  I remember Mello Yello for sure having them, but I'm pretty sure that their whole lineup had it at one point in time.

Um. Hullo. I would totally buy a 12 pack if it came with a magical taste unicorn. Wouldn't you?

As for the vortex, I'll pass. My favorite chug beer is PBR or Lone Star.

Rifling in the barrel of a gun is far shallower and has a very pronounced effect on a bullet.  Not sure about the exact depth but it's probably five thousandths of a inch...and I just noticed you used millimeters so that would be around 0.127mm.

That said, obviously this is a complete gimmick as  there is no point in spiraling liquid into your mouth.

If I were to ever drink Miller it would be on one of their cruises where the people are supposed to go crazy and have sex like rabbits. Sadly, that's most likely just advertising as well.

manufacturing to marketing, we just got in 10s of millions of defective bottles that left twisted marks inside the bottleneck. Marketing " we can work with that" !!! thus the new vortex is introduced. LOL I actually drink miller lite and don't notice a difference at all.

The bottle is definitely dumb, but I don't really get the hate for miller.  Miller is pretty much the same as Coors, Bud, PBR, etc.  The tastes are a lil' different, but to me (and just about everyone I know) all those beers are interchangeable.
