The closest casino from me is about an hour also maybe a few minutes closer.
So is that the only casino that is around there? When i see your name i think of VT as in vermont. |

yeah.. the closest casino around here was Atlantic City.
which is about 3 and a half hours away. Charlestown and Dover had races and slots only. |

Damn 27 tables there must be alot of demand.
Combined the casinos around me that have a poker room is less than that. I don't think at the bellagio they have that many when i went there. |

The Bellagio has 40 tables and is one of the sickest poker rooms ive played in. Its a fun place to play if you are into mixed games too. There are a whole lot of really good players there though so it will definately put you to the test.

nice..
bad news tho.. the opening today is a soft opening.. so not all the tables will be open. but by the end of next week all the tables should be open.. the manager for the poker part of Hollywood Casino (charlestown) was on the Sports Junkies today (FM 106.7) and said all this So it might not be a good weekend to visit... at least not for poker. |

I meant to catch that interview on the Junkies but i slept in today, thanks for the info.
I went to the casino's website and it says that players can buy in for the minimum, but no more. Kinda weak but its better than no poker at all.

Im thinking that their 1/2 tables will probably have a $100 minimum. Maybe the 2/5 will be $300, 5/10 could be $500? Just speculation here.
Looks like i might be going on Monday with some friends though. If i go ill be sure to report back to this thread.
Oh by the way, im gonna go ahead and throw down a bet that the cocktail waitresses will be smokin hot. Tons of hotties around the schools.

Im gonna call them later tonight to get some details about the poker room so ill find out if they have 5/10. With 27 tables i would imagine that they do.
$1000 would be a much more suitable minimum for the 5/10 tables, dont know why i said $500.

Just got back from checking the new tables out, it was weird to see all the action there since usually its just a bunch of trash sitting at slot machines looking bummed. The table games drew quite a big crowd.
The poker room, although not even completed yet, was about what i expected. 27 tables total but only 10 open until the 9th. They are still waiting to get all of their dealers licensed to work. The dealers that they had were fairly slow and the floor director seemed a bit overwhelmed too. It took a very long time for them to seat the tables. The wait lists were OUTRAGEOUS and anyone who showed up after registration (@7) probably didnt get to play tonight. When i left there were 178 people on the list for 1/2...LOL. Poker room hours are from 8pm-4am right now, but i believe will be 24 hours starting on July 9th.
Table breakdown was as follows (if i remember correctly):
4 - 1/2NL
2 - 2/5NL 2 - 3/6
1 - 5/10NL
1 - 10/20 They will be offering some PLO and Stud games once things get up and running.
Here is a picture that i took on my phone standing in the waiting area, couldnt take any inside the poker room for obvious reasons.

Yea its definately a giant piece of shiz. I didnt even post a picture of the actual waiting area because i didnt want the SS community to collectively blow their brains out. And that slant you see on the ceiling? Yup, its under the bleachers for the track. There are old abandoned betting windows along the left side. Definately dont go for the atmosphere!
They arent finished constructing it yet so hopefully they will hook it up a little bit more, but its still Charlestown after all.

Oh yea i forgot to mention, the rake is done per dealer down. Its $6 at 1/2 and 2/5, and $7 at 5/10. It kinda sucks to have that at a 1/2 table but thats the way they are doing it for now at least.
Also, they allow you to straddle bet at all NL tables.

The rake really hurts the game and i hope they eventually change their policy, doesnt seem likely though as long as players are beating down the doors to get in. Im sure people are already complaining to them about it.
I often play 8+ hour sessions and id be paying a LOT of money over that time period. Almost not even worth it at the 1/2 tables.

i remember on a cruise they had a poker table (a blackjack table)
beside it being a dinky table the rake there i think was 10% of the pot. period.. it was incredibly shitty |

10% of the pot is what it should be. On the plus side, this rake will force a lot of action since people cant just sit back and pay nothing to see cards.
The table games were overflowing with people too. They didnt have all of the tables open yet due to the same dealer licensure issues, but it shouldnt be much longer. Every table had a wait to get on it.
The table minimums went from $25 to $50 while i was there, which really shocked me. $50 tables on a Monday night is absurd. I asked an employee what the deal was and he assured me that in a few weeks they will have $10 tables, but the casino is just cashing in on the huge crowds to start. Trust me, there were plenty of people willing to pay for the time being.
Something else that stuck out in my mind is the lack of security in the casino. The cage isnt really a cage at all, no steel bars yet! I hope thats something that they will be addressing soon so some A-hole doesnt rob the place and ruin this for the rest of us.

damn from 25 ->50.. that is as bad as the Borgota...
makes much sense though... usually most rakes have a limit. but that cruise was 10% of the total pot. so if the pot was $500 then the rake was $50 |

Here is what their rake system is looking like right now: No Limit Hold'Em
1-2, Buyin: 60 - 300, Rake: Time $6/30mins 2-5, Buyin: 200-500, Rake: Time $6/30mins 5-10, Buyin: 300-1500, Rake: Time $7/30mins Limit Hold'Em 3-6, Min BuyIn: $30, Rake 10% Max 6 10-20, Min BuyIn: $100, Rake 5% Max 6 Its not terrible, but not ideal especially if you are playing 1/2.
Now they are saying that they are unsure if they will be ready to roll 24/7 on Friday, but we can hope. The lines for the poker room have still been crazy long and if you dont get there early you might not get to play. If youve got the time to get there by 6 then you should be fine. They will likely need to expand the poker room if the demand stays like this, 27 tables is still on the small side when you consider that the entire Northern VA area will be commuting to play there. They are still only operating with 10 tables right now though.

those outfits are great...I remember when they had an hour waitlist there all the time when the poker room was in the basement. here's a trick too if you want to geta topshelf drink go to the horse betting next to the poker room make any 2 dollar bet and you get a coupon for a free topshelf drink. got toasted there for new years, it was awesome. |

They are serving, get this, Natty Light in tiny plastic cups if you order beer at the poker tables.

Everything there is red necky! For those in this thread who dont know, Charlestown WV is a giant pile of garbage. The people there provide the lulz very often though.
I saw a few cute cocktail waitresses but a much higher population of old fat ones. Oh well.
I really think that once they get everything up and running and have sufficient staff, the place will be a decent alternative to AC if you are just looking to gamble. There are a few strips clubs close by too which is a plus.
They just really need to get it moving. Having this slow, awkward, grand opening was pretty anticlimactic.

Lol, so true. West VA NEEDS this to work, and so far its exceeding their expectations. Somehow i really think they underestimated the demand for poker. Once they open all 27 tables they are still going to have a fairly small poker room, and just about everyone in NoVA is heading to WV instead of AC for a while.
The original plan was to have the room functioning at full capacity by yesterday but unfortunately the state is slowing things down for them. Still waiting on about 50% of their staff to be cleared by the state lottery to deal.
