Yo!
My wife and I looking to spent a season living in a ski town in Canada. Trying to do it without working, so we're looking for a town that's cheap enough to live in, but near enough to a good resort with good pow. Does anyone know much about Golden, BC and Kicking Horse. Know any good sites for finding a house to rent there. Does the town have broadband internet? Cheers, Matt

Hey man,
I've worked 2 seasons at Kicking Horse as a lifty and will be heading back there again this season. What questions do you have about the place? I know a fair few people still there as well so I can ask them if there's something I don't know. It's a great little town though. The locals are really chilled, it's not over commercialised and most riders are intermediate or above (no getting stuck behind a crowd of boarders leafing or skiers snowploughing down runs). But yeah... feel free to ask anything about the place! |

Golden is kind of a bunk town IMO. That being said with other Ski towns in mind, Banff, Whistler, etc. Kicking Horse is a fun mountain to ride that is for sure. Some really advanced terrain if you know what your doing. The terrain park is horrible, so if you like terrain parks then don't move there haha. Golden is a nice location tho, with more ski hills all around you if you wanna' hit out mountains.

Golden aint Bunk! lol your crazy..
It all depends what you want from a town and mountain.. Lake Louise is there same with sunshine there bigger mountains bigger crowds and too many Aussies Golden is awesome town, nice and small, good vibe, good people. the mountain is one of the steeper mountains, I was going to work there this season, but I don't like to ride steep, I'm more of a relaxed rider. There is plenty of houses too Fernie is a bigger mountain too.. Full of Aussies, Decent size town, fair bit of traversing If your more of an intermediate/advanced rider and you like to do the social thing but not party hard every night then go to golden. the town is beautiful, the mountain is good, the people are good |

I would recommend Inveremere or the surrounding towns like Radium and Windemere. Panorama turn off is in Inveremere, and you are about 1.5 hours from Kimberley resort, 45min to Goldon, not sure how long it is to Kicking Horse.
My fiance's grandparents used to own a place in Inveremre. We bumped into their old neighbors, they are doing reno's to their rental, but is looking for renters and its pretty cheap. |
