I think a few years behind bars in a federal prison will induce honesty.

What do you think?

When the feds started to ask questions he should have come clean and answered them honestly. Jail and fines for him.

When you're getting immunity to just tell the truth, and then it can be proven that you didn't tell the truth, theres gotta be some consequences. He was done in by his own pride and vanity.

Heard him on radio yesterday and it seems like he still isn't backing down.  Amazing how delusional the human mind can be.

Well.... Jose Conseco said he never saw Clemens take PEDs.  He seems to be the best source on the subject since he's been right on just about every other person.  Still doesn't mean Clemens didn't, just that Conseco somehow didn't seem him do it.  Hmmmm

Didn't know the feds were involved. I thought it would be more the the mlb handling stuff like this.

Doesn't the league check for substance abuse for all the players?

Who cares.  He threw a baseball and for using steroids he could get jail time?  Are we kidding?  It's a freaking game meant to ENTERTAIN.  Were you not entertained??  Congress needs to fix the problems with the country, not focus on Roger Clemens

Do you think he really convinced himself that he didn't take that stuff?  I mean you know the consequences if you lie to congress and he is screwed.

we don't actually know he did it yet (but I think he did)....... but if he did lie he will get some small amount of jail time and some other nominal issues (probation etc.).

Better question Hall of Fame, yes or No?

See you have it all wrong there, he wouldn't be getting jail for the steroids, even though if they prove he committed purgery he would no longer be immune to that prosecution. He would be going to jail for lying while under oath. Our legal system depends on people telling the truth when under oath, so there has to be consequences when it can be proven that you did not do so. Even more so, when you are offered full immunity to just tell the truth.

If the Feds decide to bring you in it's already over. The game is finished. The government isn't going to waste it's time unless they know they can convict you. Clemens lied and is about to get pinched. He could have owned up to it and missed out on getting in the HOF but time in the slammer seemed like a better choice. Have fun with love knuckles Rodger, see ya in 5 to 10.

Deserves prison and fines, at best he will get fines. And frankly, as I voted, doesn't Congress have something better to do?

They all get in the hall of fame eventually, plus a ton of players were doing steroids at the same time so it was a level playing field

in the present state of our economy and 12% unemployment, this is the last thing the government should be worried about or spending money on.

What about leaving them all out?? I am still not sure where I stand on this, but it's definitely an interesting conversation.

I think all athletes should use steroids.  Here's a rant I had in the UFC thread...

I tend to take a different and more radical stance on steroids than most (HGH [giftedhands is a user and is completely ripped so we call him HGH] is gonna love this).  I'm prepared for the backlash that will inevitably ensue because I am definitely a minority (both literally and figuratively).

I kinda feel like I want these fighters to be the biggest, strongest, fastest and meanest they can possibly be.  I WANT them to do whatever it takes to be that.  Not because I like them, but because they are there for my entertainment.  Steroids, called 'performance enhancing substances', are called that for a reason!! Enhance your performance if you want to.  Juice it.  For all I care, do it until you're blue in the face.  I think steroids make you stronger and faster.  I do not, however, think that they make you any better at a skill (BJJ, punching, hitting a baseball, striking or dribbling a soccer ball, throwing or catching a football, etc.)  <-----I wanted to throw curling in there just for a curveball, but elected not to.  I wonder if steroids could make you better at curling, though.

I conjured this story up to explain something that happened a few years ago when major athletes (baseball players) were, in an unprecedented move, called before the United States Congress (while people are dying around the world in foreign wars, children [per dollar spent on education] are among the dumbest in the world, economy was tanking due to the subprime lending fiasco, American car makers were going bankrupt, etc.) to testify upon whether or not they were using performance enhancing drugs.

Now, I think Congressmen were upset that their childhood heroes were being one-upped on the record books by bigger, faster, stronger athletes. They boasted 'That isn't FAIR, players back then weren't allowed...didn't have... blah blah blah.' Who cares?!?!?! Most are dead anyway.  If anything, more home runs, hits, stolen bases and action is EXACTLY what baseball needs.  Call me ADHD, but it’s not exactly an exciting sport to watch until about mid-September.

Ok, so ^^^^^^^^^^^^ was just a little, tiny, infinitesimal chunk of what I ACTUALLY believe is behind the steroids ban.  I really feel like it is through the influence of pharmaceutical companies (a booming $1 trillion/year market) on our government that uphold our steroid laws.  If they can't sell 'em, nobody can. Granted, they can be dangerous if used improperly, but so can other drugs (alcohol, tobacco, prescriptions).

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand let the Angry and flaming begin!!!!!!!

First of all, I don't even like you. Second of all, I don't even drink...

I really just want these people to be held accountable for lying in court. He should do some jail time if he lied, especially when they make sure to inform people in these steroid cases that they will face perjury, because none of them want to tell the truth and ruin their reputation.

So quick everyone is to cast stones for lying even though EACH and EVERY one of you have lied as well.  Though your importance is meager and absolutely insignificant, you still lie as well.  Maybe, instead, you should expound upon why what he did was wrong in your opinion...

Congress has better things to do, but Bud Selig has shown he will not respond to issues until they've already become festering, embarassing problems (steroids, instant replay, etc.).  As a baseball fan, I'm perfectly fine with it.  As a citizen it's a bit irksome, but given the loads of other grandstanding and egregious passing the buck Congress engages in, it's pretty harmless in my opinion.

Broader issue: regardless of whether or not Congress has other things to do, if you lie to Congress you should get nailed.  Especially if you're stupid enough to show by your own volition without a subpoena and then lie.  That's just dumb.
