They're really pushing the tablets this year. Tablets don't really appeal to me though. I'd much rather just have a laptop. But I like how the Samsung Galaxy Tab looks though.

Finally something that put apple ipad on its toe. The more competitions the better for us. These tablet are pretty useful as far as checking email and basic web browsing. Im waiting till this december to see what is out there.

Some reason the tablet aint a turn on for me.. i still prefer laptops i guess. Its only good for business execs or business owners.. good for those who work from home or work away from work.. laptops are more fun to carry around and makes you look less of a wanker.. when some one has a tablet or pad you probably think some business execs showing off his goods, while with the laptop can be anyone from a student to IT person or just a usual gamer going to a lan party

I love my iPad, but I want some serious competition in the market so Apple will be pushed to keep making amazing items.

I'm personally not a very big fan of tablets... a little naive thinking of me but I see the iPad as a glorified iTouch

I got myself an Ipad a few weeks ago and I have to say, I am surprised at how much I use it. I bought it simply to read books on the bed but I find myself using it for many things. The following can be said for any tablet I suppose and not just an Ipad.
PROS - Surfing the web - I'm a believer. I now prefer browsing on the ipad over using my computer. Love surfing the web with this thing propped on my lap on my bed. Watching videos - I use an app called Airvideo and I just stream the files I have on my computer to my ipad through wifi. Watch things on the bed or prop it up in the kitchen and me and the gf can watch stuff while we cook. Ebook reading - Now I read epic fantasy novels which are 1000 page tomes... so I was expecting my eyes to get tired from a LCD screen but nope, I can read for hours and my eyes feel fine. iBooks and Kindle are great. Cookbooks! - My gf likes propping it up on a stand in the kitchen with any of the recipe apps open. Very handy. Some of the cooking apps on ipad are gorgeous... ie - photo cookbook is beautiful. but yes, an Ipad is just a bigger touch...which is exactly the point. It's much faster and more responsive. Things just feel fluid under your fingers. And the bigger screen allows for so much. Cons No matter what app they come up with, I will prefer doing editing work(word, excel, pp, etc) on my computer with a physical keyboard. The ipad will never replace my laptop but it's not meant to. The galaxy is looking really tempting too. I think 7 inch is the PERFECT size for a ebook reader. I'll prefer reading on that over the ipad... Hard to go android on a tablet when I've got an iphone though. Really excited about the progression of tablet pcs in the next year or 2. |

If the Galaxy S phone is anything to go by this thing is gonna be an iPad killer.
Samsung seems to have its claws out this year and it's giving Apple the evil eye... About time if you ask me. Enough of those pricks overcharging ppl for glorified designs and marketing spins on what it's otherwise a product that should cost at least 1/3 less. |

i like my lenovo netvertable..running windows 7..i can use it as a laptop, or as a tablet, depending on the situation. typing on the touchscreen is still slow so i use the keyboard for typing. but for reading or web browsing, the tablet works just like an iPad. and i got 250 gigs hard drive. you can't get that w/ the iPad.

I'm just going to wait on the next version of the iPad next summer. Always buy the second generation Apple stuff.
Other companies can compete with Apple, but Apple stuff seems so much easier to use, almost intuitive, and their customer service is great.

in my opinion, just put in the extra cash to get a tablet pc if you really want a tablet. that way you dont get limited functionality.

Personally if i needed mobility i would chose a laptop. It's just better. I don't even like laptops, i prefer desktops.
Yea it wasn't until the ipad that tablets got really hot. +1mil people have bought it.
That is what it is just with a bigger screen. |

True that...I don't need Apple deciding what I can and can't look at or do with a product that I pay for. Plus, I just don't like the way iTunes works. Nothing against it, it just doesn't really work for me. |

That's true, their first iphone was also pretty weak. Pretty much boils down to if you're willing to pay up $500 to use an inferior product for 1 year over not using it at all. For me, it was easily worth $500. I was ready to throw down $200 for an ebook reader before that anyway so it was a no brainer. If I had bought it NOW though...it would be a tough choice considering the new kindle is $139. No regrets though, its a good buy. And I don't think you can compare slate tablets to regular tablet pcs...completely different animals. I would never use a regular tablet pc as an ebook reader for one. Slates are definitely aimed more at the casuals and the business world. Look at the ipad adoption rate in corporations, pretty crazy numbers. And notebooks...also really different. If I know I'm going to be doing some serious work, I will bring my laptop out in my laptop case. But just day to day, I can easily fit my ipad into my messenger bag and use it whenever. For example, standing in a train/bus on the way to work, I can whip out the ipad no problem to surf/read. Would never use a laptop standing up. Most restaurants would frown if you put your laptop on the table and started typing away but getting out your ipad gets looked upon the same as if you're just using a cell phone. It's just about mobility and ease of use. If you're on the move a lot as I am, a slate is really handy. Now I'm not singing the praises of Apple... I just think slate tablets have a real market in today's world. Ipad is the most popular now but will hardly be the best tablet. I had planned on waiting for the notion adam...but that got delayed too often so I went with the ipad. |

very good points bugsbunnymydad..
you have converted a small part of me to actually think about a tablet instead of laptop.. (I was always in the party that thought laptops do everything, why get something inferior) |

It's true they are totally different products with specific uses. But while it's true that most people would not drag a laptop out in a restaurant, I do not see a difference between that and using your ipad at a table. I agree that it's the same as using a cell phone, which is also pretty disrespectful. On that note, I was out for brunch a couple weeks ago and there were about a dozen people wearing hats while eating. WTF? Males and females, age ranging from 10 - 60 and included so it wasn't just a generation thing. |
