So I'm stuck between these two bindings. I'm gonna be on groomers most of the time, but I still want to go into the park when I feel like it.

I can't tell which one would suit my needs, so if someone could help me with that, it'd be much appreciated.

Not that this SHOULD matter too much.. but the missions match my board more... but uh form FOLLOWS function right?

I have a 153 Signal Omni

Both will work just fine for what you're doing. Both are middle of the road flex.

they are both medium flex bindings.  the force is definitely "higher end" in terms of tech, materials, and pretty much everything overall, but the missions are still good bindings.  but for the price.. what are missions now, 199?  or are they still 179?  if 179, i still think its worth going for the force for 20 more unless you KNOW you absolutely prefer burton bindings.. and if theyre both 199 then the force is simply the better value, unless, again, you know you absolutely prefer burton bindings.

Go with the forces. Some of the best bindings I've ever owned.

Union Force hands down. The Union Force is often compared with the Burton Cartels which is a much a better matched comparison. The Burton Missions are decent bindings but it's not as comfortable as the Cartels. I have rode both the Missions and Cartels, the Cartels are a much better pair of bindings hands down.

I feel like the new 2011 missions are just a rip off of the forces. I'd still go union, but they probably won't be too different although the missions are slightly lower end.  2010 and previous missions are pretty mediocre, little to no baseplate padding and a pretty bare bones heal strap.  So essentially if it's between the 2011 missions and Forces I think it's pretty much a toss up, but if they are last years or earlier missions then stay away. The forces are really the best value you can get for a binding, so unless the 2011 missions are already on sale there is really no reason not to get the forces.

missions have better padding, same baseplate as cartel, nicer straps, and last years cartel highback.  theyre basically better than cartels were a couple years ago.  funny how that works.

being devils advocate here as everybody is saying Union...there must be a reason you're choosing between these two...is it only because of looks that you want the Missions?  Is there a pair of union's that would satisfy the same color?  Price wise, ok they're similar.  But I believe quality and tech, you need to compare Forces and Cartels, not sure where Triads come in, but if it's just price point, then good comparision...if it's comfort and tech, Forces are a better buy.

agreed, a more fair comparison is the force and cartel.  plenty of people that rode cartels for years said forces are very "cartel-like."

a more fair comparison with the mission would be the flite probably.

yeah i was just hoping there was something in the missions that would justify the price tag. cause i really liked the green color. I also was looking at the union flite, cause it's 50 bucks cheaper. and it also has the color combo i'm looking at. i've been looking for reviews on it and haven't been able to find any.
obviously i want the best bang for the buck, and it seems at the $200 mark, forces are the way to go.
and if missions are on par with flites i'll defintely be taking the flites into consideration.

Are you looking into brand new only?  Classifieds...I know a member was selling green forces...a bit used, but if you believe in marketing...100+ day = Forces.  Check the classifieds thread.

well i was looking for green forces online. i can't find any; i've pretty much given up on used forces. i think color should come next to function. and obviously forces are the right way to go. still curious how the flites ride. these are my first pair of bindings so i don't think i need some godly pairs of bindings.

Not sure about the weights.

I have forces from 2 years ago on my evo and I just go 2011 force in blue for the Jones mt twin i have yet to order....

I don't have the SL's.

Ask spenser as he may have them both in his shop to weigh...

SL will be a bit lighter than cartels.  but dont worry about weight either way, all three bindings (force, SL, and cartel) are plenty light.

its not just the weight, its tech.  youre getting carbon instead of fiberglass, premium leather straps, asymmetrical highbacks, different baseplate padding, and a more responsive binding.

what justifies paying for p1s?  or triads?  or anything around $300?  or what about c02s that come in at nearly $400?  or what about c60s?

I would go with the flites if their sold at $150.  Like spenser said...it's between the contacts and dlx (check the thread: http://www.sierrasnowboard.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=35884&PID=702018)  Maybe you don't even want the Forces...maybe just the Contacts.  If you're on groomers and park and it's your first binding, Flite, I think fit the bill.  I think they will be the next hot binding that's going to give the freestyle category a run for it's money.

Was in the a local shop last week when the were having a labor day sale and picked up a new pair of restricted cartels. I checked out the mission's also, overall I believe forces would be a better value for the money.

Cartels and force quality are about the same. I would put the mission quality somewhere around union flites. Mission are lite and the green would also look great on my new park pickle but I couldn't bring myself to spend $199 on them. They feel like a binding that should cost between $150-175.

For the same price I'd go forces or buy cartels. The straps and padding are noticeably better.

My first set of bindings where used Liquid from I'm guessing Big 5, B&M in California.  Surprising, they had aluminum baseplate.  I've had my share of manufacturers and styles to go through and experience.  This won't be your last ones, so unless you really want the Forces, then get em, but if you want to give the Flite a try, save some money...the green and black would work, no?

I don't know why Sierra doesn't have them already...you should chat with them directly to find out if they are going to stock them.

i feel undeserving of really good bindings. i think someone with more experience would be able to appreciate them more, if that makes any sense. i know flites won't last me forever, but i'm not looking for my ultimate set up or anything like that, so i'm glad we're not the same page with that.
yeah i think i'll shout them a message. the green and black ones would be amazing

hah.  the channel is actually rad.  im not into burton either, but the channel is great.  super easy and it WORKS.  finally a channel/slider system that works well.  first one ever.

its way better than that joke of a system they call 3D.  3D was good when it first came out but as soon as the 4 hole standard system came out and became standard, 3D was just a joke.  so limiting.  the channel is the complete opposite, and with the change for 2011, it allows other brands to easily make new disks so they can go on ICS.

the only people i know who really dislike the channel are people who dont really "get it" or havent used it or just dont really know much about it.

that being said, i still prefer to keepz it realz with 4 hole.  mostly cause the brands i prefer are not burton, so...

i had a similar decision last season and the advice i got was that missions will due, but the forces/cartels are basically the next "step up." missions are more park oriented whereas the forces are kind of all around

and as for undeserving.. LOL, i'm a pretty big noob but i'm going to be rocking cartels next season so no worries man. as long as you enjoy yourself, it's all good in my book
Oh, I’m in no condition to drive. Wait a minute. I don’t have to listen to myself. I’m drunk.

I like the post about being underserving, made me LOL. Totally get what you mean, I was having the same decision last year. I wanted to get the flites but in the end I ended up getting a pair DS30 - FLux, they're super comfy around the same price range as the Forces and I guess Cartels. Why I was swayed away from the Forces was the known issues with toe buckle sticking. I tried the Force SLs and they were good, but the Flux felt more comfortable for me. Cartels are nice too and many people ride it...
save a couple of bucks and maybe upgrade up the next level right away. You deserve it haha working hard and researching.
