    Posted: Sep/20/2010 at 10:06am

Mammoth just announced opening day...November 11.  We r so stoked we r planning a trip.  We have never been there on opening day and don't really know what to expect.  I heard the crowds are insane and the runs r limited.  That being said, I as wondering if anyone here has experienced opening day and if they had an overall positive or negative experience.  Any input is appreciated.

Lastly, anyone else here interested in a meet up?  Happy trails all.

Mammoth opened Oct 16th last year. Top to bottom.  It was free on opening day too.

But winter has been cancelled this year in SoCal. Nummer.

I was there on 10/16 last year when they had the free pass day. It was a zoo with almost 4000 people trying to get on to Chair 1 Broadway Express. It wasn't the official opening day which ended up being sometime in November.

It's all going to depend on the amount of snow and number of visitors, if I recall Canyon Lodge opened in December and Eagle after that.

Im going there sometime early December. What exactly is this "strip of death" you guys are refering to? Im guessing there arent a lot of snow except for a strip on snow.

How are the snow in early december?

I would watch the weather and play it by ear. Usually by the first week of December, there has been at least one big storm.

I went last year opening day. Drove a total of like 10-12 hours to ride for 4-5 hours. LOL I was soooo tired! If I had sleep the night before, I probably would have had more fun. The lines were sooooooo long too for the lifts. Only 1 was open for the first hour or two and then they opened 2 more up top. Still was so crowded. Freaking ridiculous, but definitely worth it!

I think the large number of ppl there that day in October 09 was a function of the free lift tix to anyone who showed up.  It is my understanding that after that initial day, they had to close the place due to the warm weather and "officially" opened sometime in November.  If need be, I think they will have man-made snow for this years opening day.  If so, does anyone know just how much of Mammoth can be covered using just the blowers?  For example, do they make snow as high as st. anton/saddle bowl?

I don't bother with Mammoth until late December at the earliest (but most years it's more like mid January)... and I have a season pass.

They know who he is, they just think that he's Dr. Doolittle. I know the truth: he's Billy Ray Valentine...
