Hey all,
I'm looking at doing a 2 week trip in either Japan or Canada and it's now looking like my mate has to pull out for financial reasons but i'm still keen as mustard. I'm looking for any expirence or stories that anyone has had, recommandations etc etc stuck thinking if it comes down to it, if i should just go solo. Cheers, Sheepz |

i do it all the time. its all good, just get your digs in a nice hostelly type place with big communal areas rather than family units. It'll be a bit noisier and will likely attract some bottom feeders (self included) but youll also meet people probably in the same situation and just looking to hang out.

My first season (just past in NZ) was done solo. Non of my friends wanted to try out the sport, so i was left alone. Bit sad but i got a solid 3days on the snow and was 100% dedicated to learning. So i wasnt slowed down by anyone.
Im sure heading out with friends would be much better but I enjoy snowboarding, so i can stand doing it on my own. If you hang out in a hostel, you'll meet new people, who are probably riding solo as well. Also Japan over canada :P Just my preference

arh cool as, how long do you usually go for ippollite??
Yeah im still tossing up between the two, just found out a mate is working in canada at one of the mountains. I did do a trip to NZ this year but it was wit 10 ppl, but i did meet a fair amount of randoms as i seem to get lost from everyone. Where eva i go, i'll just keep a totally open mind. What place or mountain do you think has the best nightlife etc for someone going solo? |

Maybe it's because I have a wife and kids, but I prefer to go solo. I can get more runs in a half day by myself than I can in a whole weekend of chasing kids & waiting for people to get their rentals and meeting for lunch and all that. My advice: go solo and meet people there. That way you're not tied to anyone. Also: Canada not Japan.

I was hesitant like you at the start as well. i've done solo trips in Japan and back home in aus. When i was in Japan stayed at a backpackers in hakuba and it was real fun. if you're interested in the accomodation, i stayed at hakuba backpackers. just look em up on google. they do packages which are really convenient.
If your looking for pow, go up north to hokkaido. i know niseko has quite a few backpackers up there, and there'd be plenty of people there alone who you could ride with. that's what i found japan. for the 14days i rode there, i only rode 1 day alone. |
