Ive been looking at 2011 bindings for a sierra crew and cant decide, think ive looked into too much. Rome 390s or union forces is the choice both 2011 model. Im after a all mountain binding so mid flex which i think these both are. What does everybody think? any comments?

There are tons of threads about this, at least for past seasons - consensus seems to be that the forces have a toe strap that allegedly comes off, but this only seems to be the case with some people. They are built to last (lifetime warranty), and are a bit more comfortable than the 390s. The 390s are a bit more aggressive though. Now just compare that to the new developments in both bindings over the last few years (i.e. v-rod system or w/e for 390s, etc.).

You really can't go wrong with either. I personally like the toe strap on the rome's over the union straps and I find the rome's more comfortable. However, you pay the price with some added weight over the Forces.

Not sure how they could have fixed the strap without changing it completely...unions either fit your boot or will slide off. I was one of those unfortunate people where my Union datas kept slipping off, and I switched to cartels which were a little too aggressive for me, and then to 390s which I really like and have been using ever since. Rome's are definitely more adjustable, and just as comfortable if not more so than Unions IMO. Flex between the 390 and the force/data is pretty similar, not really noticeable to me.
But if the forces fit your boot and they feel good, then go for it. They are both solid bindings |

im in the same boat. leaning toward 390s right now just based on reviews. seems like they're both good. 390s more customizable which might just give it an extra edge

eh both have equally great reviews. i would see if you can check them out in person if you are really torn, and maybe see if they'll let you check how well your boot fits in them. Otherwise just pick whichever u think looks nicer haha
Personally I have 390s and everyone I ride with either has contacts, forces or the union/sierra collab and we're always going back and forth debating which is best. I think the Unions are lighter, but seem like they have less substance to them. The Romes seem bulkier maybe and the straps are like gel-ier (?). |

anybody know if you lose anything in getting the Boss over regular 390s? the way i see it, the cant system would be a nice option for the extra $20. and it even comes with a non canted plate, so you can always go back if you want to. is there any downside im not thinking of?

I've been thinking about getting the 390 bosses because i'm heavy on the freestyle stuff but i'm sure they'd work for all mountain just fine.
SHOP_45296 i think you hit the nail on the head. i doubt there'd be a downside to having a binding that is initially the same as the other model but with an extra feature (at least in this case).

I would get the force as it is more versitile, and better fit for your riding. Rome 390 is a bit leaned toward freestyle. BUt I dont blame you, the 2011 390 are pretty sick based on the reviews

the 2011 390 Boss are seriously the greatest bindings I've ever ridden. The 3.5 degree canting is so comfortable, especially with a wider stance and/or knee issues. I love Rome bindings, I'd like to try some Unions, but Rome never gives me a reason to move away from them

I've loved my 390s over the past two years, but I am going to order a set of Forces for my park set up this year just to see what all the fuss is about.
No problems with the 390s though; great for any type of ridnig.

I rode the 2011 390 Bosses & Targas at Windells in June for a couple days and I love them both. My boots are Rome Folsoms sz:9.5 The straps on the 390 Boss and Targas felt as padded/comfy as my Cartels, and the canted bases were nice b/c it give that slight inward angle to your legs and makes it a more natural stance instead of feeling like you're hindging at the knees.
Personally I don't see what all the hype & excitement is about the Union. They're just basic bindings, no frills.... maybe that's the hype: basic, easy to use? Unless you're an advanced rider and really have a specific type of feel that you know you want, I don't think it's gonna make much difference between these bindings for you b/c they both seem to be good. I've been contemplating this exact same question, and then I thought to myself... These are both great bindings, so if I have to ask this question of which one to get, then it's not going to make a difference to me. BTW, I'm going with the 390 bosses s/m when they come out b/c I liked the canted bases. |

The Forces are going to match my board better this year so it gives me an excuse to try them out.
But like ecumike was saying you'll be good either way. Go for the best price.

You don't have to use the canted beds. The Bosses come with regular/flat (0*), and two angles of canted bases (2*, & 3.5*). So, you can always run regular if you don't like the canted (but I can't imaging that you wouldn't like them)
And as the reverse... if you end up wanting to buy canted bases.. they will run you more than the $20 extra you pay for the Bosses.

BOTH BOMB ASS BINDINGS....ROME 390s are a little lighter than forces....other than that...both GREAT BINDINGS...I ride union, i like them because in a way they are simple, but the simplicity of their binding is to all the GREAT MATERIAlL...SUPER COMFY and all the new 2011 bindins have great cushioning on the straps. also their binding is closer to the board, the base plate aint so bulky. but like i said either way theyare both great bindings...i own and ride union ALL DAY EVERYDAY...but some of my friends ride ROME, so i got to try them out...no complaints...they great as well. DEFINITELY lighter compared to the forces.
