Last year it snowed almost a foot in june. It was a freak event but it can happen. Usually it snows a lot in early may at the bird.

I'm hoping to spend a week in Utah next season, but I only know of Park City and Snowbird. I assume they're both really good resorts to hit up, I can't wait!

Liftopia is offering $51 lift tickets. I also think Canyon sports offers lift ticket discounts.
Click on the links for some private ticket sales. Most are really good deals. KSL Brighton KSL Snowbird |

Snowbird broke its all time record for snowfall in one season last week. This week we're supposed to get a lot more and make it over 700 inches for the season.

Anyone who is thinking about going to snowbird today forget it. They won't be opening due to too much new wet snow. Apparently they couldn't handle all of it and may not even open tomorrow. 753 inches so far this year.

Mad props VermontRider that video is pretty sick. Are you attached in any way to that board?
Snowbird was really good today. Snow was so perfect. Also snowbird announced that they will be staying open through the fourth of July. Click here for more information It's possible that snowbird could recieve a foot of snow the first week of June. Weather forecast |

Snowbasin in utah is going to be open for a couple more weeks.
Snowbird announced that they may be able to stay open past the 4th of july this year! That would be so awesome |

Personally I think Utah is better for snowboarding/skiing. The resorts in Utah get waaaay more snow than the resorts in colorado. Plus all the resorts in Utah are really close to SLC. There isn't much to do culturally in Utah but in terms of sports Utah is better. |

Snowbird and Snowbasin are still open. Snowbird is likely going to be open until Middle-late July. I was at snowbird on Friday. The snow was pretty good. They actually picked up 3 inches of snow on sunday night. The conditions in the summer all depend on the temps. If it stays cool the snow is great. If it's hot the snow is only good for a couple hours then it gets really sticky. Get up there at 8AM when it opens and you will get at least 2 hours of good snow. |

Does anyone know if Park City has a beginner terrain park? Or if the canyons has anything similar? Just moved to Salt Lake City and trying to decide on a season pass...
I'd prefer these over the cottonwood canyon resorts just because the drive is easier but may still go with one of the others. |

In terms of park Park City is the best. It kinda depends on the year. There have been years where the canyons has been better for park but most of the time Park City is better.
Just FYI the season at the park city area resorts is pretty short. They don't get a ton of snow. This is why i get a pass to snowbird. They were open 9 months of the year this past season. So if you can get more than one pass get one to snowbird and PC. If it's just the one and you only want to ride park PC will be fine. /edit I thought you said biggest park not beginner. Still PC has some beginner stuff and also look at getting a pass to Brighton. Brighton had a little mini beginner park up last year. Also Brighton will be a lot cheaper than PC. I learned to ride park at Brighton and would definitely recommend it. |

robsta - Can you offer any info on which resorts are family friendly? We are looking at taking a family ski/snowboard trip to Utah in 2012. My kids are 8 and 6. I think Park City was voted the most family-friendly resort last season (not sure who did the voting or who tallied the votes).

park city has a beginner park every year at the top of king con lift thats pretty good. they have some 10-30ft kickers, some small boxes and rails, and its usually not very crowded.
robstas right though. if i lived closer to snowbird during the winters, i would be all over a snowbird season pass, they get way more snow, and it stays a lot longer. but i live down in provo, and drive to park city is 45 mins, 1:15 to snowbird, not worth it when i go a few times every week.
what's important for family friendly? if it's accessible terrain that even kids can ride, i would go with park city. they trails are a lot wider than say, canyons, and not as steep as snowbird. if you want lessons for your kids, i don't really know, i think everywhere would be fine. i think traditionally, park city is kind of the go to vacation resort for familes. snowbird, brighton, sloitude are all excellent resorts, but people go there mostly for the powder and lots of challenging terrain. canyons will have less people, but i would say some of the terrain is more challenging for children than park city.

I'm not sure how much I can help you with that because I don't have kids. I would definitely look at Brighton though. They have relatively cheap lift tickets and ideal terrein for kids. I did a quick google search for which resorts would be the most family friendly and got back Alta and Solitude. I would stay away from them, alta is skier only and solitude is really steep. If it were me I would spend a couple days at Brighton and a couple days in Park City. |

^ Thanks. I have been doing some online research and haven't drawn any conclusions yet. I value comments from people who have actually been to the resorts (such as you) versus generic online write-ups.

So I'm new to UT and getting a pass this year. Narrowed it down to Brighton or Canyons..
I know Canyons will have a shorter season, but how often does Cottonwood Canyon get closed down for clearing? Leaning towards Brighton because the pass is slightly more expensive but includes a season ski bus pass.. Anyone who's had a pass at a big cottonwood resort have any input? |

Ended up getting a Brighton pass.
Anyone else heading up there this season? Hit me up if you wanna ride! Looking for someone to ride park with. I'm not very good at park yet but hoping to progress a lot this season.. |

I would also recommend Brighton for skiing/snowboarding with kids. Kids under 7 ski/board FREE (2 kids get in free with each paying adult). Plus, they have a discounted beginners pass for only $35 that allows you access to 2 chair lifts that have more beginning terrain but still gives you a decent area to explore. As a local, I think Brighton is one of the more kid friendly resorts. |

What's up, fellow Utards?
I'm new to this forum, figured I'd get an idea for how many local riders are out and about. I wanted to get a pass at Brighton this season, but I live too close to Snowbasin to pass that up. How many other riders are going to 'Basin this year? |

Definitely man! Always looking for people to ride with since I just moved up here this past summer from Oklahoma. My buddy that always took snowboarding trips with me is still back there in school. I'd still say I'm beginner, but hopefully an advanced beginner! I feel I picked it up quick on my earlier snowboarding trips and should progress a lot living here in SLC now.

Looking forward to hitting those boxes and hopefully rails soon. Just getting started in park so we'll see. I would also like to start getting into kickers but it sounds like Brighton won't be a great place for that. May end up at Park City or canyons next year since the pass will be cheaper for my non-student girlfriend to get the young adult pass. they should be pretty good for progressing kickers from what I'm guessing. Anyone have input on that?
