The NFL fanbase has always been bigger than the NBA, it's just the way it's set up. 1 big gameday on the weekends with plenty of down time to drink beers just makes it fan-friendly. The NBA lockout talk has been really quiet though, I did read a story on Yahoo about the 2 sides being closer than you would think with this amount of press, but that's it. And why wouldn't they want people to know that they're getting closer? |

Wonder what Charles Barkley is doing with the absence of a golf season. Maybe he is working on that golf swing of his =)
Jokes aside, this lockout really sucks, not just for the players and the fans. I agree that it seems the NFL is more popular than basketball in the US. Whenever I turn on the tele to watch an NFL game, the stadiums look bigger yet packed.

JR Smith is close to signing for a little over $3 million to play in China for the entire season. Players seem to be giving up on the 2011-2012 NBA season. Things aren't looking good.

I don't think the lockout will hurt unless they start missing games. The NFL came out OK from their lockout, but imo only because they are playing all their games. I'd also say the product has been pretty good recently, just a little heavy on isolation play. However, the Mavs did just win a title as a team over the 1v1 style of the Heat which was nice to see. |

Ochocinco name change was the beggining of the end of chad johnsons carreer. I think it will be the same for artest. I don't see him being a starter much anymore. |

True, but I don't see Shannon Brown stepping up to take over Artest's spot.

It seems like there is no hope of seeing the NBA play this year. I don't really understand how the players and owners can be so far away at the bargaining table. Just too much greed on both sides of the table I guess. |

Thats exactly it, both sides of the table are extremely greedy and you know who is going to end up footing the bill??? The fans!

I think the previous deal was very favorable to the players and made it difficult for some of the smaller market teams to make enough money to sustain the business. Of course, there are some teams that made zillions of dollars, but I believe some lost some money. Unless the owners are allowed to make more and have a hard cap, the smaller markets teams will not survive. Then, we'll be left with the Lakers, Heat, Knicks, and Mark Cuban..everybody else will have mediocre players because they can't afford any better...

I definitely don't want to see super teams in the NBA, because that'll just lead to isolation 1v1 play which is boring to watch. It was refreshing to see a real team like the Mavs with role players win the title. Imo, basketball needs role players, so if there are only 8 or less teams it could be less fun to watch actually. They both need to stop being greedy and look at the consequences if they lose a season, they'll all look bad. |

im thinking they'll miss the entire season for sure. the players aren't budging at all on their cut of the revenue and most of the owners dont want to budge either because alot of teams aren't doing well financially. d stern who is a dirty politician-like liar flat out said the two sides are far apart on every issue. it's done.

Doesn't the beginning of next year's baseball season coincide with the end of the football season?

I heard an announcer on ESPN the other day, the black guy who has the talk shows and very intelligent, say the owners have been saying for a while that everyone in basketball has lost money but the players....now its their turn.....
That's a pretty strong statement but so very true

I think a lockout isn't really that bad. I'm not a fan of basketball, so it doesn't bother me at all. I feel the NHL lockout helped the sport so maybe it would do the same for the NBA.

Yeah, basically. And for some reason people would rather watch spring training than hockey. I can't say that I quite understand it.

Just curious, but how did a lockout help the NHL? I really can't see much of a way the lockout helps the NBA, except by possibly limiting huge salaries so that smaller market teams can be more competitive or restricting a "big 3" like Miami from happening again. Still, that's all offset by losing a season and upsetting the fan base. |

Definitely it's beyond me. I also don't get how one or two of my friends are able to follow the 50+ round MLB draft. Anyways, back to the NBA - watch this sick Rondo no look pass for the alley oop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7BspB6R--A&feature=player_embedded |

Who knew that Lebron James was a part owner of Liverpool FC? It's insane how much money athletes earn, not just from salary, but from sponsorship
