24 more days until we (So Calians) have the opportunity to ride.  I'm sure the conditions will be less than stellar; especially considering last years' snow.  Heck, it might even be all man-made.  <-------Forecast: FAIL  I know there will be a plethora of snow-junkies overpopulating the few lift lines that will be open.  Frankly, we don't care........that much. Big smile  Have u ever noticed that when you are suuuuuper hungry, the list of foods you are willing to eat is directly proportional to that hunger.  Well, when it comes to snow, we are staaaaaarrrrrrviiing.
Is there anyone else out there watching the weather report first thing in the morning and last thing at night?  Has anyone scraped off their coat of storage wax or tuned/detunes their edges?  Carpet board much?  Have u started a pre-season exercise regimen?  Well, you are not alone and I hope to see you there.  Happy trails.
Mammoth this morning 11/9/10:

WOW serious? Is this from recent?

Added: Wait.. just checked mammoth, no new snowfall today.

But yea... I've been waiting and it has been killing me!!!
Went last year opening, that was killer! Was my first time boarding in october haha. Anyways, I hope this year they have more than just a couple lifts open. I waited hr and half for first lift ride... it was crazy! was dying from the sun too! Hope it snow like crazy the day before opening-- would be soooo siiick

see you on the slopes

I don't know about opening day at resorts. A part of me really wants to go...but then the sane side of me says to stay away from the long lift lines and crazy effin crowds. I think I'll have to wait this year for the initial craze to calm down. Everyone's itching to ride so I'd think that almost everyone and their mama will be out there. No thanks!

I did not even know they closed...I thought they stayed open all summer.  Do you know how long they typically close for between seasons?  This may impact my travel plans for the next year.

Yeah...as far as first days go...not so interested.  I just wait typically for after winter break for trips that far.  I went last yr locally (Big Bear/Mt Baldy) in Dec, and it was still pretty dry.  It wasn't until that week in Jan that it dumped three feet or more and closed off 330.  I was up in Baldy at that time.

that photo with the chairlift dumped with snow is just f ing awesome! WOW!! can't wait to experience MM.

RideTimeless, dude I remember SoCal got hit last season with rain around that time..matter of fact HWY 330 at about 2000' elevation was already covered with snow (closed due to "avalance" in snow valley!) that was actually January 18-22..it rained everyday that week..that weekend decided to go up to Bear since we have rented a cabin..holy crap! TRUE STORY..24 hours just to get up there..going back and forth from the 18 to the 330 then back to Apple Valley..smh..ALL WORTH IT! we got up there 6 am Saturday..DAMN!! for SoCal snow, that was like a miracle! we have to shovel 5-6 feet of snow just to get inside the house!! we were actually snowboarding by the street! and was teaching newbies on the street at the same time! hands down, the best snow that I experience in SoCal.

yep...absolutely one of the best times for so cal...hopefully this yr can somehow be a repeat...but, i think from the official weather thread, Southern Cali will be dry and all the storms are north.

That is soooo purrrrttttteeeeeehhh!!!!! never experience MM but this year it's on my "MUST DO" list..me and my friends are debating on going around 3rd week of November just for a trial run..MM experts you think snow will be good around that time? or Just wait til December?? suggestions? one thing for sure though, we'll finally get to try MM! there's a thread that if you go this Sunday at Highland (LA) to watch this snow festivity for 25 bucks, they'll give you a free lift ticket at MM..I contacted them and it's legit..ticket's only good from November (opening day) until December..

Got a new dusting on the mountain visible from Main Lodge today.  The winds were howling in town last night but definitely need that winter storm warning storm to deliver.

Find a friend in Mammoth.  Motel 6 was $60 a night in the mud season so definitely not cheap in the winter.

Just an update.  Snowmaking has begun on the mountain!

Find a friend in Mammoth.  Motel 6 was $60 a night in the mud season so definitely not cheap in the winter.

Just an update.  Snowmaking has begun on the mountain!
Thanks for the update shay

i hope the snow just keeps continuing on!!all happy for Mammoth, but the likely-hood of me going there more than once before all the other parks in unlikely. Don't get me wrong, I AM DYING FOR ANYTHING! Just that, after mammoth, I'm going to have to wait a couple more weeks for everything else =(
its bitter sweet...

sweet then bitter then sweet for a while. and the bitter for a very LOOONG time and then it all starts over again
let it snow
