Even so, it's weird how people are trying to bring you guys down.  The plan sounds amazing and if it was 10 years ago I might have taken you up on it!

$7500 for 6 months of living it up is not a lot of money.

My $500-600 a month for food includes eating out.  I don't make lunch so I buy lunch at work everyday.  I work in a downtown area in my city and lunch isn't cheap there... sometimes a lunch is over $10 a meal.  It isn't extravagant and it I'm not getting 2 lunches either.  A shawarma plate plus a drink is $11.XX at the food court.  So, $10 a day for lunch 5 days a week adds up to $200 a month alone.  And I haven't factored in dinner or weekends.

So $500 to $600 isn't that ridiculous.

Edit:  i'm assuming that comment about "bringing you guys down" is directed at me.  If that's how it comes across, sorry.  But I was just putting up a number that I thought was reasonable.  That's where I got challenged and I was simply responding to the numbers I threw up.

Yeah, but you were putting up a "reasonable" number based on your current lifestyle in mind. I'm sorry, but $500-600 a month on food for a single person is not very "reasonable" regardless of your circumstances.

go back to my original post.  I estimated $200 for food.

I never said $5-600 was cheap or average or reasonable.  I have already said this like 1000 times (obviously not literally but a few times already)...

i've looked into this... you really need about $8100 to do this.

$500 a month rent = $3000
$1000 for a season pass
$200 a month food = $1200
$200 a month BOOZE = $1200
$100 a month MJ = $600
$200 a month utilities/phone/internet/etc. = $1200

however, it really is for people who are younger with no obligations... if I left for 6 months, I'd still have mortgage payments, property taxes, etc.

fixed

Here's my estimate for this winter for Tahoe and SF

Tahoe
$750 for 5 months including all utilities (ski lease)
$399 for my Sierra / N* double whammy
$250/mo gas driving to resorts and back to SF once-twice a month
$300/mo food
-------------------------
$3899 total

SF
$1220/mo rent including utilities
$380/mo car
$120/mo auto insurance
-------------------------
$8600 total

I'll get to surf and snowboard all winter....... best of both worlds. I got laid off recently and I don't want to give up my place in SF.

6 months in tahoe is worth it, so long as you don't have other responsibilities.  when you have snowboarding, you don't need amenities.  just necessities.

Found 2 people working at Squaw looking for a place in Truckee. So we are trying to coordinate with them. Our main problem is that we have a dog and a lot of the pet friendly places are all taken for the season Ouch

I thought all places were pet friendly now.  unless you got one of those agressive dogs like pitbulls.

How in the world has this thread made it this far without a huge picture of Flava Flave?
Bring it hard or don't bring it at all.
