Oh wow, haha. Didn't catch that. When I made that logo at first I uploaded it with all the rounded corners. But I knew something was wrong so I looked back at it and changed it. I guess I forgot to change the reflection.

Here is an updated version:

And a second submission:

Just curious - if you all needed your teeth fixed or a heart operation, would you hold a competition, or would you hire a professional to do the job properly?

Well, a surgery should be a one time thing. You cannot undo a surgery. However, getting more than one viewpoint is a nice alternative, and it's free for a company with a lot on its plate at the moment. Plus, if you chose a logo and it's not very good, you can always change it to something else, because you have more than 3 or 4 to choose from.

So do they just have competitions to find people to do your job, or do they hire people who are qualified?

It's just a way to get something done for a fraction of the price it should cost, if done by qualified professionals.

How about this then - if i wanted to get my hair done, do you think hairstylists would have the right to "whine" if I got a few of them to do it, then only paid for the one I liked best?

you realise that in the world of graphic design part of the bidding process for a contract involves you working to a remit provided by that company. If you lose the bid, you dont get squat. If it took you a day to create three or our logos for them, and they go with someone else, hard cheese.

Honestly, what a nonsense this is. How about you not try and make some cynical spurious claim and instead try this out:

after designing a logo that people look at and say "thats crap, we can do much better, make a competition" the owners of the site day "hey! thats a good idea, okay".

If you are a professional graphic designer and you don't want to submit your work, you dont have to chief. If you arent a professional graphic designer (or dont make a lot of money or have an extensive portfolio), this is a pretty big chance to gain some exposure you'd think. Why take the single most cynical view of things?

Oh yeah, it's "cynical" to think that people should actually get paid for their work.

Bottom feeders who expect designers to compete for work do so only because they can, not because they should.

I never do any jobs I have to tender for, I rely on the quality of my past work, and they come to me (I'm bringing in 6 figures - you?). Potential clients who expect you to bid for jobs are the ones who'll inevitably try to screw you over, because they've already proven they undervalue your work.

Assuming 6 figure salaried designers like yourself take umbrage at it, then obviously dont get involved with it. The quality i'm sure will be absolutely atrocious from all these unprofessional kids and their mspaint jobs and no doubt trusnow will give the winner some beanies before running to a proper designer to get the job done "professionally."

Honestly, people complain about the dumbest things. Also, considering your very first post was about this, did you honestly sign up to 'complain' about this?

Yeah, it's really "dumb" to think that people shouldn't be exploited. What was I thinking?

You didn't answer my question regarding if i wanted to get my hair done, do you think hairstylists would have the right to "whine" if I got a few of them to do it, then only paid for the one I liked best?

Think Trusnow would mind if I bought a few snowboards, rode them all, then cancelled payment on all but the one I liked the best?

Obviously you wouldn't mind if your employer decided not to pay you for your work, because someone else does it better.

At least you're right about the "absolutely atrocious" logos produced so far "from all these unprofessional kids and their mspaint jobs".

Some of these "unprofessional" (allegedly) kids may need some work for their portfolio, or just be artistic and have something they'd like to share.  I don't think talking all this smack really needs to happen

Actually, come to think of it, in this context a "logo contest" is really appropriate.

It's basically the same thing as going to a local board store, trying out a whole lot of gear and wasting the shopkids' time for a few hours, then buying it online here.

actually YOU answered your own question. You confirmed people do have to submit work for the company prior to winning a contract with them and thus getting paid. Its EXACTLY the hairdresser analogy. So er, well done on disproving it.

Youre clearly only trolling. maybe even from another specific website?

Are you comparing the work of a graphic designer to that of a surgeon?  One has go to 4 years college, then 4 years medical school (only the top make it), then another 5 years residency (again only the top make it).  Then to practice you need to have more than $10k a year in malpractice insurance and if you make a mistake your career is over.  The other can done by somebody with no degree or outsourced to a company in India.

I think you might want to go back and re-read, then try again, because you've got it backwards.

I implied that I disagree with people being exploited by doing work for which they would not be paid, whereas you think that's just fine - except, of course, if it happened with your job.

You've inadvertently hit the nail on the head - because the fact is, you can get also surgical work done "by somebody with no degree or outsourced to a company in India". It a matter of choosing between a qualified professional, or not.

if there were a village of people with no electronics like the omish or way back in the dark ages with one "qualified farmer" who planted the fields but decided one year to save all the profit for himself and not share any of the food I think he would have some problems like you do know. the people would tie him up take the grain and replant the fields not being qualified but wanting to survive! this is an opportunity for many not a topic for you to scorn shame on you go back to your rock of under your bridge. and btw sorry if this is the first you hurd but those graphic design jobs are being phazed out just like sales people its going to take many years but I'm Fing done talking to sales people who know less about the product they are selling than I do as well as graphic artists who think they are the best but scoff at anything but a perfect job my sister wasted tons of money and 4 years on graphic design school and was and is horribly unhappy with her choice. long story short graphic design people may be under the illusion that they are as exclusive as a surgeon but I'd greet a doctor with respect. if your going to act like this in person I'd tell you to go F yourself and I think the mods will if you don't S Y Y
