    Posted: Oct/22/2010 at 3:42pm

Sunday River Ski Resort in Maine shot 74 snow guns for 19 straight hours. They opened at opened at 3:30 pm EST on October 22. They have been the first resort to open up on the East Coast for the last four years.

I don't like how they are in such a hurry to open. I really don't care for the snow that comes from the snow guns. But it is still cool that you are able to shred this early in the year.

Not really Phatty, i'd rather wait till this week and have an 18" base and about a mile long run at Loveland, or a shorter run at Abasin. Plus, we are in the beginning of a storm cycle so.... yeah.

All the chairs open at Vail? Are you serious? give it some time and they will be but Vail doesn't open until the end of November.

Opened at 3:30pm?? That's a solid 2 hours of daylight to ride in. Kind of an odd time to open, no?

Goin up to Sunday River in 2 weeks.  I hope they expand to more than 2 open trails by then.  Last year they got some fresh powder in late October.  Fingers are crossed for a repeat.

There should be more trails open then. I think they are running machines for the other trails.

There are a lot of on-mountain options (a couple of hotels plus many condos) but not too much stuff really close by. There is the Bethel Inn off site but they are only a bit cheaper than on-mountain. The problem with the on-mountain stuff is they don't allow Sat check-ins or check-outs.
