Just a little curious as to others opinions. I personally think that they should make it legal.

I hope it becomes legal. Our overcrowded jails don't need to be further impacted by personal possession of a 'soft' intoxicant. Watch the movie "The Union". It has a lot of great information on the legalization of marijuana.

The only reason it should be made legal is to help reduce our massive debt. Drug industry is huge and if they tax that it would be a loooota money.

i too think with it legalized through the 19th amendment, a lot less people will be punished for possession, and the taxing on med marijuana dispensers will give states major money from taxes.

the same way they regulate and tax anything else...

There are many benefits of legalizing weed, aside from clearing jails for the true criminals and making tax money. for instance if marijuana was legalized it would open up many jobs that wouldnt be there otherwise. from the growers to the shop workers the jobs created would be significant. Also not just for the buds, but the plant itself can be used for a variety of things from paper to clothing to fuel and unlike trees they take less than a year to regrow.

I'm sure im missing a lot here, but these are the points off the top of my head

It would be government regulated meaning more is grown and the price would drop a lot making it irrational to buy it illegally.

Let's be honest. It is easier for a minor to get hold of weed than it is for them to get a hold of alcohol. I missed the pre voting time cuz I go to UNR so I didn't get to vote. It's not going to hurt anybody if they legalize it and it will bring in a lot of money through taxes.

I hope that it gets legalized there. Marijuana does a lot of good. If they are worried about something that is dangerous they should focus on alcohol then.

At this point in time, most people are likely to vote no. The young people who mostly care about it generally won't go out to vote. I think, whether you smoke or not, this would be great for california as it would be a huge source of revenue for this state.

If alcohol was illegal today it would most likely stay illegal.  Just because alcohol is legal doesn't mean you should automatically legalize other substances.

actually, there was an article which deemed smoking a joint equivalent to smoking like 4 cigs. however, overcrowded jail cells due to these minor offenses is a waste of tax payer money. Just slap a higher fine on it. MA last time around actually de-criminalized possession of a small amount of weed.

Yes! also it would be grown carefully, resulting in it being more potent so more bang for your buck.
Also all those people that felt sketched out about buying from a drug dealer due too them being able to lace weed with shtook like angel dust! they dont need to worry.

the key part of this legislation is not what's being made legal, but rather what's being made ILLEGAL, which is mostly all the BS excuses cops use to conduct illegal search and seizure.  an individual's rights are greatly increased by this new legislation that protects them.

oh please tell me something about the harmful effects. Just posting such a statement without any further information is far too simple.
(Perhaps you are a tea-party member...than it's okay of course because you at least didn't use caps-lock)

Effects of weed:
Interesting fact I just heard in my forensic-course at the University today:
People that smoked weed drive better depending which time after consumption you are looking at. Directly after consumption they drive better. With a CIF-value lower than 20 and higher than 10 they drive slightly worse and after this time the driving gets better again then it would be without smoking.
Definitely a funny fact.

Important about it: You have the real effect only for half an hour as long as you smoke it.
The effect is beginning immediately with the first drag because it passes the BBB in an instant.
The aftermath can take about 10 hours.
It's quite interesting that it's better to smoke small portions one after another (effect of half an hour) than smoking a big portion once...

Next fact: Perhaps it's a drug but it multiplies the effects of some painkillers. That makes it great for cancer patients and so on because the painkillers they have to take are far worse and dangerous.

A pity that most of the people just don't know anything before they go voting.

after reading this and seeing the sources stated please find a way to say it shouldnt be illegal. IMO most of the people opposed to it are uneducated about the true facts

I doubt it will pass, but it would be interesting to see it do so.  Generally, if California passes something, it spreads across the US later.

I was originally gonna vote yes but after reading this article i voted no. To me 19 was a shitload more regulations under the mask of legalization. To those of you out of state this crap already flows like water out here. IMO it is as legal as it can get without being "legal", and all the regulations on 19 would be a step in the wrong direction.

If you have some time read this.

i skimmed through that article but I don't really think that that new measure wouldn't get passed in 2012 if prop 19 wasn't passed. btw apparently it's 44.4% yes 55.6% no at the moment

I don't do drugs but I've read many studies talking about how other legal drugs (alcohol, cigarettes, etc) are actually more dangerous than illegal drugs (even hard drugs like heroin). Oh look! A quick google search says there is a new study which confirms that!

http://www.wsaw.com/home/headlines/106554368.html

So I say shtook legislation of morality; let's legalize it! Unless natesnowboards is right and IT'S A TRAP!
