Enjoy Ron, where you from? Hope you're enjoying Fernie, you've made a stellar choice for the season.
I wanted to start a thread to let all know how epic the snow has been in that area so far, with the official opening tomorrow, hoping there are a few more riders in the community that ride West Canada. Glad to see you already had a thread! Fernie had 7 feet before the start of December, and it's snowed all week. I've been to the Banff area a few days so far, but am excited to get on a real, full-on, pow covered mountain...especially with stupid weather so early. La nina is a beauty. Can't wait to get back there tomorrow, look for the guy with the big dumb smile on his face...buried in snow |

I was going to go to fernie this winter for a week!! Went last year and I fell in love with that place!! The park isn't big at all, but the powder is awwwesome!! I'm quite jealous of you!
I'm headed to Pano this year instead, to switch it up a bit..and hopefully back agin before the end of the season to Sunshine or somewhere. |

Man I've heard great things about Pano too, but never been. I have heard there are some fun steeps and a big park. Fernie's park is pretty weak, lots of boxes and rails but no big hits...I think RCR has some liability issues, because kimberly and nakiska both have small parks as well...still super fun. But your right, I think Fernie is epic, I seem to always find great lines. Sick powder.
To be honest I am tired of Sunshine, after only a few weekends. Don't get me wrong, it was great to be turning in November, but it is a Zoo and flat (I might think different if I head there when the full mountain is open). Recommendation: Lake Lousie. Also, Castle Mountain, half hour from Fernie, is small, but a great little powder stash. They had a fun park last year too, with a few more features than Fernie (variety, not sheer size). They are gonna get hammered with snow this year too. |

Was in pano two years ago, and our last day of riding it dumped so that made it awesome. The only thing about Pano is that the main runs were a bit icey, but I'm not sure if it's like that all the time. Still a nice mountain to go to at leeast once to hit the bowls.
The powder is usually so good at fernie, I dont even lap the park usually cause I would rather be in the powder. I havn't been to LL yet, but I have heard nothing but good things about that place, hear it's better for boarders because of all the flat beds at susnhine which get old. lol Might have to get to castle monutain sometime too, I hear it's not crazy busy there which is nice. |
