if its black wax then you might be able to see it a tiny bit, but for the most part it spreads thin enough to the point that you wont see it. even if it does, it doesnt matter.

After 60+ waxes on my GNU 11-up with a red/white base, and using red, yellow and green waxes I have yet to see any colour change....... but like spenser already said even if you see a change does it matter?????

I used a blue wax on the first yr Burton X-8 on my summer storage wax and it did stain into the base but didn't effect anything other than the look... But on another note i liked the blue tint in the white areas so it was a plus....

While we are talking about waxing, what is the difference between hot waxing and the kits you can get to just rub wax in. Pretty new so any help would be nice.

hot wax seeps into the boards pores better so it lasts longer and its more effective. rub ons are a one day temporary fix.

It'll get really black if the wax has graphite in it.

never had this issue before. most wax are colored anyways and its not like the wax is staying on the board, it comes off after you scrape it.

My first board had a mostly white base, i used cheapo yellow and red waxes which i got with my kit and they did not tint the base at all, here and there you might see a small smudge of red (or yellow) but after you go down 1 run thats all gone.
Don't worry mate use any wax, and make sure you use the "Hot Wax" method, that way your board really absorbs the wax and it will last longer + be faster! Its easy to wax your own Quote: " 1. clean base of board with diluted citris base cleaner, spray on cloth not directly on board 2. warm up iron 3. press wax against iron so it begins to drip, make sure it doesn't start to smoke 4. drip wax in a snake like pattern from near tip to near tail 5. wait a bit and iron the board (make sure you feel the topsheet of the board so it is warm but not hot), warm enough for board to absorb the wax 6. spread wax around 7. let dry 15 minutes 8. scrape excess wax 9. buff with a scotchbrite pad 10. enjoy NOTE: i would remove the bindings or at least loosen the screws to prevent the board from warping" |

I'd be more concerned with gouges, scratches and chunks/dents in my base than the color of it.

no, the wax is clear enough and the layer is thin enough that it doesn't change it drastic enough for u to tell with the naked eye usually.

I would assume the darker colors would be more likely to tint the board that color

I was a ski/snowboard tech for 3 years and out of all of the boards I waxed we never had a problem with wax's tinting the lighter colored bases. I often used black graphite wax and never noticed it ever tinting any of the boards.

with a proper wax job, the color of the base should be the same regardless of the color of wax. after scraping off the excess wax and buffing, the layer of wax left on the base should be so thin that it's transparent, regardless of what color the wax started out. even on opaque block of wax, ive never seen it change the color of my board

I just scraped one of my boards after being in storage for 2 years and the wax has stained the white parts of the base. The wax was purple in colour and made by Purl. I live in a hot climate so that might contribute. K2 board with sintered base. No matter how much I scraped and buffed, stain no go.

I'm concerned now.. I've put a storage wax on my Sierra Crew which has white sections, and my girls board is almost all white. Anyone else noticed staining from waxes? |

have had slight discoloration on certain bases. my guess would be more due to dirt, grime, and tree sap than wax but who knows. it sticks around even after a fresh wax and scrape.

Use base cleaner next time before you wax. It is designed to remove previous grime from sap and oils from snowcats. I also feel honored to have been the OP of a zombie thread... I'm the king of the zombies... |
