ive seen it recently...not really snowboard but just outdoor store
Shops will put up the price of the goods only to put discount % on it eg RRP 39.95 they will sell it for 50.00 but give customers 50% discount ie sell it for 25 bucks sure in the end its still cheaper but giving customers false perception of discounting is just wrong! ![]() ive busted both Anaconda/Kathmandu doing it FFS is your gonna do it at least take off the RRP tag off the products!! ![]() *end vent* |

this is the normal in most stores anyways. IT shoudlnt come at a surprise. But they usually put a sticker over the original ticketed price just so you can't tell

sierra does the same thing. "stunt" msrp at 500 when the blunt is 370 for example or the sierrascope at 500 which is a $400 indoor, but its discounted.
say what you want about "well its sierras boards, they can do what they want with pricing," but the fact is... if its a re-branded board from company X that cost X amount from the company, marking it much higher when its your logo only to discount it to make the sale appear much bigger is definitely deceiving. its not unusual, im just sayin.

Did you seriously need to start a thread for this?
Take some business courses. This is a pricing tactic called High-low pricing. They make the base price higher and discount it to make it seem more appealing. This is well-known and widely used. Welcome to the corporate world. |

No I'm just a business major and knew exactly what he was describing so I pounced on it like a tiger. It's something you see everyday, everywhere. ![]() |

Just saying its wrong and if it gets to the extreme..which it hasn't
We have governing bodies that we can call upon to deal with this well known and widely used tactic ![]() http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/815334 Advertising or promotions of 'savings' or 'discounts' on the RRP of goods and services are designed to convince potential customers they are getting a good deal because they are getting it for a price less than the RRP. |

It's still something you can recognize, You just can't put a specific name on it. I wasn't exaggerating when I said you see it everyday. While my post may have seemed aggressive, I still put forward a useful contribution (to a useless thread) and pointed the term out. If you still feel like continuing this argument you are attempting to blow out of proportion, you'll have to do so by yourself. I am ingmyself from this thread. ![]() |

This practice is illegal in the UK.
(The Consumer Protection from Unfair Traiding Regulations 2008)
It is a criminal offence to:
1. Claim an RRP if it hasnt actually been on sale at the RRP for at least 28 consecutive days in the previous 6 months.
1. Market something at an artifically high RRP that you dont intent to sell significant volume of product at just so that you can then reduce it to the price you really intend to sell loads of the stuff at.
