    Posted: Dec/04/2010 at 9:16am
Well, I forgot my lock on opening day yesterday at Mt. Washington. I wasn't worried about it. We went inside the lodge for a quick snack break. 10 mins later when we came out, my board and my friends were no where to be found Cry

We watched the security camera footage and discovered that they had in fact been stolen. So far we have created a FB group to attempt to get the information out there. Other than patrolling classifieds, is there anything else one would suggest?

For any Vancouver Islanders:
My Board is a 2010 burton blunt 153w, with 2008 orange and white burton detox bindings

My friends board was a stepchild latchkey ripper 153 with brand new rome targa bindings

maybe put some sort of a reward, say $50, for the board(s) no questions asked on craigslist (assuming theres craigslists or something similar in BC) but damn that sucksOuch, two boards if one person took both of them somebody must have noticed and thought that was suspicious

^^^ if you put a reward for it on craigslist, they'll know you're patrolling craigslist and might not put it up for sale. that sucks man.

I've run into these problems quite a lot and I've noticed a trend in the people who get caught (unless it was completely random just cuz ur locker was open) normally its repeat offenders. Most people wont steal but they will buy stolen property(cuz somehow thats better) I would say keep your eyes posted around the racks of that mountain and even better other mountains and if u see someone stealing(even if it wasn't your thief) you still tackle his ass to the ground and lay the smackdown. Also with that said check the Kijiji listings in your area and other sites like that, the person is going to want to get rid of it quick.

It looked as if it was a team of 3. On the camera they were are standing together and then the first guy went by the rack and grabbed my buddies board and kept walking casually. Then the next guy walked past my board to the next rack, where another friends board was, luckily his was locked. So he went back to the mine and grabbed it. I don't know where the 3rd guy went.

A reward is a good idea though.

Yeah, I 've got one... I forgot it yesterday though. Only one out of the 10 friends of mine had their stuff locked. I was unlucky.

Whenever I don't bring my lock, I literally take it everywhere even to the restroom.  I hope you got the serial numbers of your gears down but I'm sure the guys will be back and I doubt they change their clothes so you're bound to run into them again.

How would you know if the thieves were stealing other people's boards? They look like they are just taking their own board, it's so hard to tell!

Very sorry to hear that, I hope you get your boards back. I would check craigslist and any local shops that buy/sell used equipment.

That's awful!
My spouse saw a note asking for information on a pair of stolen skis out at Loveland last weekend. It happens if you don't lock your stuff up.

I'd suggest asking your parents to file a claim with their homeowners insurance for stolen property, but I'd guess their deductible is more than your board + bindings.

Good luck finding your stuff.

That truly blows, I hope you get your boards back.  Go buy a lock so you dont have to worry about assholes doing that crap in the future.

Dang...that really sucks.  Was the security footage clear enough to see any of the thieves' faces?  Maybe their photos can be posted around the mountain or something, and that might help catching them?  Sorry that happened to you and your friend.  Though I'm guessing it may be pretty unlikely to recover your board, I sure hope you do (not that long ago I actually watched a news report where a woman recovered her wedding dress that was stolen from her garage when the thieves tried to sell it on craigslist, so...it is possible to get your property back and send the thieves to jail).

That sucks so much. Those boards are probably gonna be tough to find again. If I didn't have a lock, I would definitely take the board with me everywhere.

That sucks even more so that it was on opening day. These are the stories that make me paranoid about leaving my board unattended.

seems like no real good solution...even if you see someone with the board...they wouldnt use the whole setup. but that really is upsetting on opening day.

The security cameras are pretty bad quality. In addition, scumbag #1 was wearing all black with a hood up. However, scum bag #2 was wearing a pretty distinctive outfit, but he still had goggles on and a hood up. I'm not sure which jacket it is, but the top half was a red-orange and the bottom half was baby blue and he had matching baby blue pants. Anyone know a jacket that fits that description? Also it is illegal for us to take any photos from the cams.

That sucks and you usually bring a lock with you also.

For the new snowboarders/skiers out there burn bonkfisher5's thread into memory and don't ever leave your crap unattended not even for a few minutes.

Dude that blows! My buddy got his board stolen last week at Keystone. It's been a bad week for that. as kids are hitting the mountain more every day it's harder to keep an eye on your stuff even if you just run in to take a leak. I always bring my lock and if someone I'm with doesn't have theirs we put our boards flush to flush and lock both boards through the bindings and to the rack. I have the basic dakine lock and we've locked up to 3 boards at a time with it. Better to be safe than sorry. If your friends had their locks, they should have shared the love.

I just got a new board havn't even broken it in at a mountain, so needless to say i'm alot more paranoid about it getting stolen, so might have to be a little more cautous. I would almost be glad if my old board got stolen but I dont' think anyone would want to steal that POS.

Made me remember a Dream i had a couple weeks back, someone stole my board, and i waited at the top of the lift til i saw my board and when i did, need less to say i beat the crap out of her. haha I just hope it's not a sign.

But that sucks, I would definitely throw up signs where ever you can :S And sometimes if they're dumb enough they'll ride the board they stole.

I think you should just patrol all the classifieds in your area(such as craigslist and kijiji), with out putting up a reward(if you post a reward and they see it they might take the boards elsewhere to sell). Then you can call the seller and say you would like to buy the board(s). Now all you need is a couple body guards then your set!

Hopefully you have the serial number of both the boards written down, otherwise you may never be able to retrieve them.

I am pretty sure TS would have the serial number on file because they have to track which boards were sold so they can know their inventory.  Also, I doubt it is illegal to take a pic from a cam for the purpose of finding a crook.
