Please provide more information, for more accurate answers...
Weight, height, flex preference... Do you plan to ride park/jibs, more time in pow, or just cruising groomers?

Out of the two I'd say the custom. But I would consider picking up a cambered board if you are into all mountain.

I have been riding the Hero for 2 years, and my riding improved a lot when I switched from camber to the rockered Hero. It is also a much more fun board. I disagree with people who think you have to ''pay your dues'' and learn the hard way on a camber board first. If you learn easier and faster and have more fun on a rocker board, why not? Unless you plan to become a pro, the whole point of snowboarding is just have fun. For what you want to do, the Hero would be a great choice, and having ridden one, I would not hesitate to put a beginner on one. I have ridden mine on groomers, park and pipe and it has become my 'go-to' board on any day I have tried out another board. If you want a rocker board at less cost, the Sierra Reverse Crew is based on the Burton Custom V-Rocker, made by Burton, only cheaper and you can use any bindings on it. The package deal with the s90 bindings would be great.

i prefer camber (custom), so i would go with that. its a better all mountain board. but like sunfish said, some people like rocker more, and progress with it faster. try both and see what you like more

I would go with the Custom.  If you are new to riding and want to get into all mountain it is an excellent board for that.

Sierra Reverse Crew = Customer V rocker without the ICS and the "lightning" tech.
I would go with that if you are on a budget.

Also, before deciding, you might want to try them both during the Burton Demo Tour.

I'd go custom if you have to have ICS.  The hero is pretty meh for me, while the custom is the standard for cambered boards.  Although I'd go neither since i'm not too into the ics.  You can find boards just as good from other manufacturers that don't require those silly bindings.

For all Mountain gotta go with the cambered custom, however, i have the 2011 hero and it's a pretty solid board to take to the park and ride anywhere else. but if you're new, def. go with the custom for stability at higher speeds.

those boards are from two different sides of the spectrum.   the custom will perform better at higher speeds with more stability

I ride the 2010 Custom, and it is a great board, the medium flex makes it great for an all around board.

Well if your planning to ride park its hard to decide because it depends what you do. personally the custom is more of an advanced board that I can honestly say is an all mountain board. Even though the hero is great at riding park and riding around on groomers it is a little less stable than the custom at high speeds. The problem with the hero is that it is less good in the powder. On the other hand if your one of those guys doing little jibs and rails and jumps and stuff like that I would suggest the hero because of its pop and flex. But if your looking for a board way better in powder and still great it the park. Even though it doesn't have as much pop, the more stiff base of the custom makes it better at high speeds and in the pow. Choose the one that suits you better and suits your price.

Custom is good over all.
I used my brothers old customs when I first started boarding.
Then I got me a Hero to as I was starting to park and I like it.
