haven't been up this year, yet. Heard the only thing that's changed is the new signs, cosmetics and re-positioning of the terrain park (no improvements on antiquated lifts/layout).  I've been a season pass holder for the last 5 years, when it was called sierra summit.

Not even gonna compare to Meadows, but pretty cool resort, considering where it is.  Kinda small acreage and relatively flat, but tons of natural snow and a little bit of advanced terrain (tiny bit expert, too).  Great for beginners building their powder "chops" before moving on to tahoe or mammoth or any world class resorts.

...don't forget your chains!  The road is kinda gnarly and CHP will turn you around if it's dumping.

I'm going tomorrow. Had a season pass last year. Went for the first time two Mondays ago. It was when it was dumping and only one lift was running. It sucked because it was the one where it totally flattens out at the end and half of the snowboarders ended up walking or trying to skateboard it back to the lift. I'm not thrilled with the place after all the talk about how it was going to improve, but maybe my experience tomorrow will be better.

BTW, I'm still a novice, so I like the layout and all when the entire place is up and running.

so I went up last week (first big dump since the jan drought).

The rooms have been renovated and the food is better, but the only thing I could see the new owners changed on the actual mtn is grading a trail from the top of chair 5 to the top of chair 1 (before the trail, people used to traverse it, leaving deep/dangerous ruts)

After looking at satellite images of most of the east coast and midwest resorts, china peak is actually really good in the grand scheme of things...the only problem (other than just getting there) is too much snow Confused

here's a couple of the better vids I found of some skiers riding the many deeep pow days we get per season:

went up on the last day of the season (may 1, 2011).  The snow was great, but there were no parks....not even a small one.

Sierra Summit was owned by Big Bear and the parks were always running, every day...and well maintained, every day.  On the very last day of the year,  the parks at SS would be a total jam session.  I'm not a big park guy, but will hit a few kickers, especially late in the season when there's only hardpack and slush.

China Peak only has their park tow rope running on sunny weekends...and nothing running on the last days.  Even if you wanted to hike it, all the features looked like they'd been neglected for about a month...very disappointing.
