Hey so as far as I could see, no one made a post like this but if they did i apologize...but I'm just wondering what you all usually pay for like wax jobs and full tune ups (base repair, wax, sharpening etc). My local mountain is charging 40$ for the whole job and 20 for a wax job. Is that kind of on par or is it a little pricey?

That seems normal pricing here too.
I do it myself and it only takes half an hour and only costs of materials.

Seems reasonable to me, it is on par with what I pay when I can't be stuffed doing it myself.

i payed $45 for a complete board tune two years ago at my local shop. They did an amazing job, as the bottom of the board looked like crap and when I got it back it was all smooth and the edges were nice and sharp

It looks like Northstar gets $40 for the full tune and $15 for waxing. Alpine is $50 and $12 so your mountain is comparable.

You have to differentiate between a wax and just a belt wax. Belt waxes are cheap and really only last a day. They only charge 5 dollars for a belt wax at N*. I think 40 dollars sounds about right for a full tune up. And around 15 dollars for a wax.

I've seen $20 just for a wax job at some resorts your best bet is just to get yourself some wax, an iron, gummy stone, and a file tool. Doing it yourself will save you a ton of money in the long term and its not that hard.

Those prices are pretty comparable to prices here in the Boston area. As others have stated, waxing is easy and you can do it yourself at a much lower cost and more often.

my local shop does hot wax for $10, basic tune for $25 and a full tune up for $40. i usually do my own tune but i had to bring my board in last time to get some gouges filled. the guy only charged me $25 for the tune and p-tex since they cant just p-tex my board and thats it. not bad IMO

I used to pay $10 for a wax job, so now I wax my own board and I have saved a lot of money. I also wax all the decks and skis in my schools snow and ski club. I charge $3-$5, it depends on how cheap I can get wax. I only charge enough to buy more though. So if anyone is ever in Salem, OR on their way to Mt Hood, hit me up

You guys have inspired me to stop wasting money on waxing. I'll go back to doing it myself. What kind of Iron should one use? I'm assuming not my iron that I use for work clothes.

technically any iron will/should work, but non-steam irons are more suited.
ooooor splurge and spend a couple extra €€ and get a wax iron made for the job. typical prices here are ca €5-10 for a wax €15-20 for a small service(edges and wax) €40-50 for a big service (base grind, edges, wax)

my local mountain charges $50 for tuning + waxing, but thats with a season pass discount . I think they gouge people on the prices, but I had to do it there because I was told my board was so old, Sports Chalet couldn't tune it up because it was a liability, wtf.

Hotwax is generally around $15. I've gotten just edges done for $15-20. Full tune is generally closer to $40-60 depending on the place. There's a guy in Minneapolis who does them for $25... I'm planning on dropping some stuff of with him and seeing how he does.

in illinois its 15 for hot wax and 45 for tune up at my local shop. I just recently bought all the materials to wax my own board and it cost me...
iron-$14 (walmart)
dakine nitrous wax 6.oz- $10
scraper $8
in the long run i think its worth waxing your own board and for me, im starting to wax all my friends boards and im racking up a ton of money. Well worth it.

shops can make so much money on waxing. its almost pure profit.
i do it when people ask, but really.... do it yourself. for the price of a full tune you can get an iron, maybe wax too. it pays for its self after a few times and its sooo easy. sharpening your edges is easy too, and most boards that people bring in for sharpenings (that i see) dont even need it, but they still want it so we do it. weve been charging 10 for wax and 15 for a wax/sharpen.

for just a hot wax, I paid about $10 at shoreline in tahoe, several years ago...then I saw some vids on youtube and bought my own stuff. Have been doing my own hot waxes and edges ever since, with very good results.

I'd expect to pay from like $30 up to $60...depending on if your board needed a lot of repair and you had some base shaping done. I personally have never paid over $40 for a full tune with standard grind.

for a belt wax anything over $10 is a rip. If you can find a full tune for $40 or less, I think that's about right. I've been doing my own for a while as other have said it saves you a bundle. your first few will suck, but you'll get it figured it out after a few tries.

just got a major tune on my board. covered a stone grind, wax, and tuning the edges. $40
core welds were $5-$10 depending on size. same thing for any sidewall damage repair. as stated above anything over $10 for wax is a rip. just go buy an old iron without holes and watch a video on how to wax your board. |
