The Official my gear got stolen 10/11 thread

Since we seem to have about 5 of these topics every week now I am going to sticky this and ALL of you can put your stories in one place.  I will be moving the first post of any new gear stolen threads to this thread and locking all the excess threads. 

BUY A LOCK AND LOCK YOUR GEAR UP!

I use some dakine lock.  No idea what the name is.

You should probably just go to walmart and buy any lock that will work. As long as it is locked up somehow, the chances of your board getting stolen are pretty much nil because it's instantly a much more difficult target

Must of gotten stolen while he was eating or something and took his eye of it? i'd like to know the story too so i can avoid it!

Obligatory "use board check whenever possible, it sucks that your board got stolen, and try checking Craigslist" post.

ha i use a gun lock. the only thing ive ever got stolen were my gloves -_-. But i guess it can happen anywhere, even if your standing right next to it.

I watched a kid drive away after leaving his brand new joystick leaning against his car. I went and grabbed the board and a couple people told me to take it home. I instead took it to the lost and found. I checked the other day and the kid still hadn't picked it up. 

I never got anything stolen, but one time i contemplated stealing something. I didnt have the balls to do it, so i didnt do it. 

Today at Sierra-at-Tahoe, there was a random board in the parking lot next to my car. No one was in the cars near the board and I thought of taking it back up the hill to turn it in, but didn't know if the owner had dropped it off and ran to the port-a-potty. There weren't any footprints around it, but it was snowing pretty hard and fairly windy.

honestly. if you are sure the owner isnt coming back. it sounds like the people just set it down. changed, and forgot to load it before taking off. if that was me, i wouldnt have left it there, i would have either taken to the lost and found or taken it home with me. probaly the latter one tho :) sounds like someone just left it there on accident

went and picked up a lock tonight after reading all these stories haha.  little burton thing feels like a hunk a junk, hope it works.

Thank you for cleaning up the forums . I feel bad for them, and the locks recommendation can't be said enough.

Always get gear check or leave it at the car if the lot is right at the base (like Baker)

Nice to have peace of mind.

some stole my friends bag with 50 bucks, dragon maces, spyder gloves, and his lock and hand warmers. he was soooo pissed off

I recommend a board check or a nice lock.

i think we all know that the right thing to do was take it to the lost and found but sometimes that's just inconvenient when you have to drive back, find somewhere to park, haul the board to the lost and found office, etc.  i'm not going to be all high and mighty here and say i would do that because i probably would have taken it home.

in my opinion, if you're going to be so careless with your board which probably cost a few hundred bucks and just forget it, you deserve to lose your board.  it's a tough lesson but i bet you won't do it again.  and i see some kids with nice boards which i'm sure their rich parents bought for them...they just treat it like sh!t so i don't feel bad for them either.

above is totally different from people jacking boards and stuff though.  i've had my ipod stolen before because the ghetto arse resort (Pat's Peak) at the time didn't have lockers.  i stuffed it into my jeans and put it all the way down my bag into a cubbie, someone then grabbed the bag, moved it upstairs so they can rifle through everything and took my oakley cap too.  oh, and they took one of my socks!!  i'm assuming they put the ipod in there to take away but if not, that's f*cked up!!

i never lock my gear up i figure person would return it after use lol

Some of those kids deserve it, abuse all that their parents give em. I feel bad for those parents who are rich yet still spoil the bratty kids.

he's right. invest in a lock and safeguard your gear.

We always lock our boards with a simple bike lock.
