Since we seem to have about 5 of these topics every week now I am going to sticky this and ALL of you can put your stories in one place. I will be moving the first post of any new gear stolen threads to this thread and locking all the excess threads.

You should probably just go to walmart and buy any lock that will work. As long as it is locked up somehow, the chances of your board getting stolen are pretty much nil because it's instantly a much more difficult target

Bakoda lock cost me about $14-$15. Board/bindings cost me about $370. The math is not difficult. Worth the money.

I watched a kid drive away after leaving his brand new joystick leaning against his car. I went and grabbed the board and a couple people told me to take it home. I instead took it to the lost and found. I checked the other day and the kid still hadn't picked it up.

I didn't know what to do and ended up leaving it there, in case someone got out an extra board at the beginning of the day and forgot about it... and would find it again at the end of the day. What's the best thing to do in this situation?

Take it to the lost and found, or take it home! Nice thread bruzza, now all you're missing is a poll of how many people lost their gear this year. |

What a pity though to forget your board and drive home. I drive around my parking spot to see if I dropped anything before I leave, haha. Good little warm up for the car too. |

Thank you for making a thread for this, because no matter how much it sucks, I don't like seeing a new thread or three every week.
I have one of the Burton pocket locks, its only $13 and it is strong enough to dissuade most thieves. |

Always get gear check or leave it at the car if the lot is right at the base (like Baker)

i think we all know that the right thing to do was take it to the lost and found but sometimes that's just inconvenient when you have to drive back, find somewhere to park, haul the board to the lost and found office, etc. i'm not going to be all high and mighty here and say i would do that because i probably would have taken it home. in my opinion, if you're going to be so careless with your board which probably cost a few hundred bucks and just forget it, you deserve to lose your board. it's a tough lesson but i bet you won't do it again. and i see some kids with nice boards which i'm sure their rich parents bought for them...they just treat it like sh!t so i don't feel bad for them either. above is totally different from people jacking boards and stuff though. i've had my ipod stolen before because the ghetto arse resort (Pat's Peak) at the time didn't have lockers. i stuffed it into my jeans and put it all the way down my bag into a cubbie, someone then grabbed the bag, moved it upstairs so they can rifle through everything and took my oakley cap too. oh, and they took one of my socks!! i'm assuming they put the ipod in there to take away but if not, that's f*cked up!! |

i have never been afraid of losing my stuff, always thought that it is a small chance that i was willing to take and plus my gear is not really that expensive - so why would someone take it....but since i have been reading all that stuff about all these boards being stolen, i've started to carry a small lock with me. like someone said, i just put that lock on something when i get to the resort and go on the lift, this small inconvinience is nothing comaperd to having your stuff taken or even worrying about it. I hope everyone listens and gets one....

We always lock our boards with a simple bike lock.
Just curious; do skis get stolen as well? Do skis or boards get stolen at a higher rate?

Sucks to hear people are getting their gear lifted. When I first started, I was super paranoid about it, so I used a cable lock, but I haven't for the last 4 years at all. After hearing how prevalent it is this year, I will probably bring my lock with me and start using it again.
