I was just wondering how much do you guys spend per season excluding the cost of your setup? Because I am looking to either go over to the state or Canada end of this year, so I want to know how much I should bring if I want to stay for a season. Especially when the exchange rate is pretty awesome at the moment.
Also, where would you guys recommend? |

i pay 20 bucks every time i go cuz i got this thing called a value pass and i buy it for 45 bucks and then it takes off 15 dollars off a ticket when i use the card. every 7th time is free. i went 9 times already. used the card 8 times. and went to mt.snow for pay your age.
so i spent around 160 for tickets. then for giving gas money and buying food is another 40 bucks. so 200 bucks so far :/ |

last time we were boarding in canada we went to mt. tremblant. EVERYTHING is pricey there and you can't get discounts on anything. this was a pretty big shock to us since we're pretty big bargain hunters.

Season pass will cost you anywhere between $400-$1000 depending on where you end up going, the rest is just trying to figure gas, food and lodging. Obviously your best bet would be to try and get a job at the resort. I would think that your biggest expense is going to be lodging, the rest you can do pretty cheaply if you try hard enough

way to much. My sports that I play are Ice hockey, snowboarding, tennis, racquetball, and disc golf. I think hockey and snowboarding are about the same for funds being extracted out of my wallet. I play ice hockey year round though.
Exchange rate awesome? Is the US dollar even worth more than a loon, I can remember when the dollar was worth like 1.60 loons. I just checked a dollar is only 1.0097 loons. The dollar sucks anymore, damn politicians. |

this season l went like 6-7x already, roughly 30-40$ each time. I think lw oudl have been better off if l spent the $ on a seasons pass instead. At least l get to expereince new hills/mountain

From what I have heard working on the mountain means very little riding time especially for lift operators. If you want to live in a resort town and ride a lot you need to be looking for work at night waiting or busing tables or something like that.

Such an expensive hobby, but without being too close to a mountain, I can't really get a season pass or bundle of passes to the same place since I end up going to too many different places. All worth it though.

Learn to math, you have it backwards. The CDN dollar is worth more then the USD; not the other way around. (However with % the banks take on exchange realistically both Dollars are "worth less" then each other) |

lifty is the way to go. I know at Bear Mountain/Snow Summit you get a season pass for free. so that take out a major expense for you. Rent a room for $200-300 from someone and you'll save more money that way.

I have a season pass to kirkwood and a ski lease in south lake, but I plan to go 20-30 days this year, so it should still be pretty economical. I had a pass to Squaw last year and only rode there 8 days, so it barely paid for itself. :/
I've been up 7 days so far this year, but only three of which were at kirkwood. I rode homewood, squaw, northstar, and alpine for a week when I had some friends come in from out of town, and we actually had to rent a different cabin since my lease didn't start in time for it. |

I would think all the job spaces are all filled up by now wouldn't you think so? Lodging will kill your budget big time unless you stay at a motel a little far off.

gear varies, this year i barely bought anything, but passes are usually the same. last couple years have been almost 500 for the season pass but i go 60-70 days and shoot for more so its pretty cheap per day, and then food i try to bring from home so its not more than a couple bucks a trip, but i occasionally buy it up there. gas counts too but its about 42 miles round trip so its not bad compared to what might be average around the country, and all my roomies and friends ride, so we carpool often.

I can get a free season pass to a nearby mtn every year, so that's good ;)
I go around 10~20 times a season and I take public transit, which costs bout 30 bucks for the whole season. Another 30 for the food, 400 for the gear. |

My season pass cost $350. I've been to the mountain about 11 times. Gas costs about $15/trip. I'm gonna go to Stratton next weekend but got pretty good deal. Lodging $299/5nights and $20 lift tickets. I think so far, I've spent almost $1000. Wowww....it's pricey sport really.

$400 or so per person for the season pass for two of us
$150 or so per night for lodging $100 for gas both ways $50 per day for food for two One or two lessons a month for two at $200 per person... About 10 days per month in 4 trips = a little over $11,000 for the season is what I'm guessing... Plus HCSC for two = another $4,000 or so Snowboarding is an expensive hobby for us, but it's so worth it!!!

Working at a mountain is great to cut out the cost of a season's pass but it's true that you don't get to snowboard that much. I teach skiing at my mountain and teaching is better as you get to ride with the kids, and practice more basic kind of stuff while teaching, but when you get off it's usually only night skiing left and depending on how the day went you might be too damn tired to go up. I often bring my snowboard to snowboard after a day of teaching skiing but I'll tell you right now it takes a lot of motivation to go grab your board after teaching.

$11,000 a year!? You must be overpaying. I pay: $250 for night club card $150 for bus 6 times (with school) $5 round trip for each trip up on my own (split between friends) Bring my own food, leaving me at about $500 a year. Hope to move closer to the mountain to cut that by a lot. |

Gotta love Aussie prices, hey! Full-Access Lift Pass: Around $105 Food: Around $10, depends if we get something from the supermarket on mountain or from the bakery at the base. Return Bus to the mountain: $40 Petrol (if we drive): $15-$20 contribution Resort Entry (if we drive): $10-$15 contribution. So either way, around $150 a day. Thank god I don't rent my gear..! Season pass for this year will set me back between $750 and $1,100 depending on whether I get the tertiary or adult pass..! |

are we talking semi-local (i.e. - driving) or taking a full on plane trip here? big diff between the two. i rarely fly for a boarding vacation so i'd say i spent way less than $500/season to hit up tahoe 6-10xs.

Damn man 11k is absurd.
4-8 trips to snowshoe during the semester $250 for a snowshoe season pass ~$15 for gas per trip ($60 split between 4 people) ~$30 for food/beer per trip $20 for 2 nights per trip at the house the club rents (although being an officer this year I don't have to pay this) Unfortunately I shtooked my knee up the first trip to snowshoe, so I didn't get to take my 2-3 trips to Mount Snow I normally do during winter break. $790 for the club trip to CO, included Airfare, Busses, Housing, Lift tickets $200 for food/beer while there cause I splurged while on vacation So total this season, anywhere from 1400 - 1600, but that's only cause I went to CO from the east coast. 4-8 weekends at snowshoe this season would be 430-610, plus whatever I would have spent at Mount Snow, although that's normally with my dad so he ends up paying for most. This is also just cause I'm at school. As a "where should I go" type thing like your OP suggested, definitely not anywhere in the southeast, but that should be obvious. |

I'd say you're better off working as a bartender/waiter in a resort town. The money is much better, and you can work nights so you can ride days. And, living in a town with a small (but steep) mountain is very nice. My pass was $325 and there are NEVER any lift lines. |

Are there public transports to and from most snow resort? Coz hiring a car will definitely kill my budget.
So far, a month of snowboarding would be about 3-5000 including accommodation, passes, food, etc Where is OP? Also, are there any area or region that has better snow? |

Not necessarily. It depends on what where you are going and how long. Here is my season so far. Chile 9 days (5 days boarding) - $2000 Mammoth 5 days (4 days boarding) - $1200 Vail/Aspen 5 days (4 days boarding) - $1500 Japan 2 weeks (8-9 days boarding) - $4000 est. (Planned for Feb) Local stuff about $100 per day (2 days so far, estimate 5 this season) - $500 Total $9200 If I didn't go to Bahamas last week ($1100) I probably would have gone snowboarding. so I really don't think $11k is that absurd. |
