Happy I got to Tahoe in early January and not this last week. Still was plenty of stashes to be found and even a little pop of snow right before I came out. Praying for snow for you guys!

Yeah, it was pretty nice in Tahoe in early January with some fresh powder. The forecast predicts that it's not going to snow in Tahoe for the next two weeks DX. |

it's supposed to snow again thur/fri, IF the cold front pushes in and the precip dips in from the north into tahoe. so it's possible, although BA is now saying that it may not be as much as previously predicted.
looks like getting a ski lease this year wasn't the best option, but hey, i'll be in chapel hill by this time next year so the wife and i opted to do it. i'll be up tomorrow to board squaw. looks like it'll be a groomer kinda day...

Are votes in the poll counting by 59? Or is that just coincidental that 5 of the 7 options have 59 right now?

yeah we all remember that epic year and how it was just dead in january. however, i seriously doubt we'll ever have a year like that again. predictions were early snow, then not much later in the winter. so far so good on that. but here's hoping that we get another 200 inches before it's all over. fantastic february and miracle march anyone?

Never said we were going to have a repeat of the once in 25 year season but a dry January is not that uncommon in Tahoe and it is said to often be followed up by a good February and March. People were getting on the "oh my god the world is ending trip" so....

now is the point in the "wasn't Tahoe deep week awesome" conversation that I always kick myself for being in Jackson Hole, with poor conditions, during that week . . . . Hindsight being 20/20, we should have cancelled that vacation!!! But it was still a fun trip, I don't think we could have understood that it was going to be so epic in Tahoe that Jeremy Jones would have a segment called "tahoe deep week" in deeper that would haunt us for the rest of our lives. Shwazy we won't hold you to it, but FTR I am calling for a repeat of that (please) -b

From OpenSnow:
Looking at the latest precip totals we could see 1-3 inches Thursday night at lake level and another 1-3 inches on Friday. On the mountains we could see 2-4 and 2-4 with up to 10 inches in spots along the crest West of the lake. |

they are both solid and you cant really go wrong with either. Mammoth is an awesome resort but not a lot going on in the town. Tahoe has a little more to offer in the way of night life (Northshore less so) and a lot of mountains to choose from if you feel like exploring. Where are you coming from. Mammoth offers flights from a few select cities where as for Tahoe you can fly into Reno from many locations.

IMO, mammoth is the best mountain in CA. the problem is it's harder to get to; 5 hours from LA and 5.5-6 from the bay area (and you drive through south lake tahoe on your way to mammoth). You could technically do both if you wanted to since it's only about 2.5 hours south on 395 of south lake tahoe. personally i prefer north lake though with squaw, alpine and northstar. in south lake you're basically hitting heavenly and kirkwood although kirkwood is really another 30 min from south lake on a good day. i also would disagree with there being nothing to do in mammoth. while it's not south lake with all of the casinos, there is plenty to see and do. it really depends on what your expectations are. i would say it's like breck's downtown and i actually enjoy it quite a bit at mammoth. i'll pass on the ritzy, over commercialization of south lake and take the peace and quite of north lake anytime.

when we are stuck in a Junuary condition cycle, generally the lower elevation mountains soften up more and have less chance for the icy to develop. Northstar, Sierra at Tahoe, etc. but yes, everyone was MIA this weekend. went to Heav, Northstar and Kirkwood and everywhere was dead quiet.
