glad you are okay. get well soon.

I got a concussion w/o a helmet. I was craving pretty fast on hard pack and hit a groove from a skier and slangshot my board right up and my back of my head right onto the hardpack. I was out immidately but still have some conscience of what's going on b/c I tumbled for a good 40 yards or so. I was in and out. No head nor neck pain what so ever and no memory lost, i got lucky considering I was out for bout 40 sec. But it did took me a few days til my head felt clear again. And for a week, I was eating a lot like a mad man. I'm assuming my body was in recovery state. During the fall, I broke my hand too. I kinda had an idea of what happen when I was tumbling. Back of my head hit first, then back of my left ribs broke the fall and knock the wind outta me, I'm assuming that my hands were in the air while I was falling, as soon as my ribs hit, my left hand must of whipped right into the hardpack and back of my hand was broken.
My brusied ribs heal within 2 days. My hand thou, after 2 weeks, is bout 80% now. Still can't close my fist all the way. My hand felt like it got a stinger and busted my index finger's nuckel in.
worst of all, I don't have insurance. so I've to sit and wait.
wit the concussion thou, if I felt any pain, I woulda def. went to the ER immidately.
no matter what thou, after a concussion, you should go to get it check out. and wear a helmet.
NEXT!

I'll be curious the see the park to riding injury ratio.  I don't read very many injury reports about people hurting themselves from cruisin the trees or hitting the steeps.

busted knee right now, waiting to get in to see the ortho.  earliest i could get was feb. 2.....

right now its quite swollen, cant see my knee cap really.. not much pain till today and its still not bad, just more annoying.  pretty sure its a torn MCL, as thats where i can feel the most discomfort when ive moved it the wrong way.  i can stand on it (not that i really do) without a brace but the swelling makes it feel like its gonna give out, cause it wants to move around and just makes it seem strange.. but with my immobilizer brace it feels stable standing up.

i basically was going too fast through a steep zone and went for a section that funnels in, and you have to thread the needle off a drop through branches and trees.  the snow was about 10 inches of light stuff on top of the prior weeks packed down stuff.. it felt good to ride but was deceiving.  i went to my heel edge at the last minute to get a little to the left so i would make it right through the opening off the drop, but the snow gave out, i ended up on my side, slid off the drop, and slammed into a thick branch sticking up with all my weight, on the outside of my leading knee and it folded in sideways... typical way to hurt your MCL, so thats what im expecting.

3 weeks ago i slammed hard into a stump going mach 10, you can see the video here, its a few minutes in but the rest of the video is decent too, hah.  i basically rolled forward (nose heavy) and slammed into it under the snow kinda on my upper back, folded in half scorpion-style, bounced off about 10 feet, wind was knocked out of me and i couldnt breathe for about 25 seconds or get a sound out to tell my friend i was okay (he was below me), and i honestly thought i broke my back for a second right after i hit.  for the rest of the day my back was super stiff to one side but it was just my body protecting me from moving.. i could move it again a few hours later.  my right knee (the picture above is when i hurt my left knee) started to hurt more later too, i think i tweaked it when i scorpioned so fast.  its okay though.  i got really really lucky on that one.

and two years ago about this time is when i dislocated my shoulder.  not much to say other than i scooped around on a side hit on my fish, got bucked, and came down right on my leading shoulder.  popped it out and it went forward and under the socket.  no tears or anything, just a standard dislocation and i did physical therapy and all that for it.  its fine these days but occasionally i can feel that it was hurt in the past, but it doesnt affect me and hasnt been weaker so far.

That looks soo painful!! :(

The only injury I had was a dislocated left humerus, but I popped it back in place. I was out for 5 weeks because I pulled a tendon.

Damn Spenser, lookin rough.  While its tough to tell just from a picture, its likely that there is some MCL damage based on your description...and the swelling.  How long ago did you injure it?

If the swelling is that bad after a week or so, a tear is very likely, but its possible that its just a 3rd degree sprain.

Sounds like a tear, swelling usually isnt still THAT out of control after 4 or 5 days.  Best thing to do for now is just ice the hell out of it, no heat, just ice.  Bummer dude.

Spencer: I just took a bad still on my third jump ever...landed right on my left shoulder after placing the nose of my board straight into the ground. I could move it immediately afterwards but now I can't lift it up out to my side...

I can roll the joint and lift my arm in front and backwards, and can still steer my car with it....

Did you have movement afterward or none at all?

With this pain, I am out atleast a month I guess.

after my dislocation?  well my arm was out of the socket, it just hung at my side.  it was super weird, i could feel the ball of the top of my arm against my ribs below my shoulder....

after they put it back in i couldnt do anything for a while.  it was hard to move.  i slowly regained my range of motion through PT but it took weeks and weeks.  i couldnt REALLY use my arm for probably.... i dont really remember, maybe 5-6 weeks.  i remember a few times brushing snow off my car i would slip on ice and try to catch myself with that arm without remembering it was hurt, and mannnnnnnn that hurt.

i wore a shoulder brace (the sully) for the rest of the season and most of the next season too.  the sully helps keep your arm from going too far out to the side and also forward.  it also trained my arm to stay closer to me while riding, after i stopped wearing it the next season.

whenever you get hurt, always do your physical therapy and follow all the other rehab youre supposed to do.  i was lazy and didnt do it as much as i should have but its not worth it.

you might have partially dislocated it or torn your rotator cuff or something, i dont really know.. important to take care of though, shoulders suck.  so do knees.  hips too.. both of mine are shitty right now as well, they just dont bother me unless i slam them snowboarding.

Slammed my left shoulder into the ground trying to do a small 360.  It really didn't hurt that bad but it has been over a month and it still gives me discomfort.  It seems like I might have suffered a small tear in the muscle or something.

PT started on my leg...currently sitting at 80 deg flexion and -10 deg extension.  I've been diligently bending my knee outside of PT and whenever I have the chance, letting gravity pull my knee down to help with the extension.  My knee definitely feels stiff and it's weird moving it since it's been in a brace for 6 weeks.

About 3 weeks ago: right thumb sprained, rib impact/compression, tailbone bruising, lower back injury, left knee bruised, neck whiplash/stiffness, sprained left ankle, right wrist sprained, and a few solid hits to the helmet.
Reason(s): flat ground trick LOL
healing: back on the slopes last Sunday after a 2-week hiatus

Hanaaaaa, I wish you the very best with your recovery!Ouch If my friend decides to fix his camera, I'll do something cool tomorrow and dedicate it to you! Feel better soon Smile

I almost cut my index finger print off.  I bought a new knife and it had real thick packaging.  While I was taking off the packaging, I had my one hand on the sheath and the remaining plastic material was securely attached to the knife itself. I accidentally pulled the knife out of the sheath and it sliced my finger.

(not infected, just wet from being bandaged up)

I should of went to get stitches, but I had switched jobs 2 months prior and was in a transition between insurances, so I just used butterfly stitches.

Aww thanks Lux!  PT definitely just helps so much mentally because I feel like I'm actively helping myself toward getting better.  Before I was just sitting there not being able to do much so it was freaking depressing.  Now I'm like if I work through this pain, I'll be that much closer to being better.

That sucks gsoccer your friend broke his wrist.  Does he need surgery on it?

Tail bone injuries suck! I was trying 360s on an icy day. Land then slip then land on your butt. Tail bones became so bruised up by the end of the night. I'm going to stay away from boarding for 2 weeks to heal up. It hurts to sit

I broke my rib from a rail taco last season and it took about 6-7 weeks to heal fully.  I think i was back on the slopes the next week though, just not doing anything crazy.  During that time breathing hurt and sleeping hurt even worse.  Because of that I didn't start hitting rails again until this season because I would flashback to it happening any time I even considered doing a rail.

what a sexy ankle you have there dtj!  That black and blue color really complements you LOL  I should post up the bruises I had on my knee a week after I hit the slow sign.  It was a lovely black, blue, red, yellow on the side.

Making progress on my knee!  Got it to bend 125 from 80 last week.  15 deg more to go for my knee to be normal range of motion!

I think I musta strained or bruised my LCL last weekend.  I remember crashing onto my knees on a spin (happens a lot) and thinking that it hurt pretty bad (happens a lot too).  But at lunch it was still bothering me a lot, very tender to touch anywhere on the outside of my knee from lower thigh to upper shin.  3 days later now and it still hurts, especially when trying to fully bend it.  Hope it's good enough next weekend....

The knee's range of motion is good and I've been cleared to start some weight bearing.  Weeeeeeee

The bottom of my foot feels so weird.  Just having that pressure on it and it feels like the nerves on the bottom of foot are being woken up from 2.5months of inactivity.  My leg feels sooo weak when I put some body weight on it.

Got a worse injury now than that knee problem I was having.  Broke my humerous right near my shoulder at Copper Mt. 3 weeks ago.  Got some video evidence.  Don't worry it isn't graphic.  I didn't take the jump like a spine, instead I sorta launched it and it got me way off balance leaning toward my nose.
