I recently bought a snowboard bag (columbia titanium double black roller 181) to be exact. It's pretty sweet, it's padded and has wheels. My only gripe is that my bindings don't really fit in the bag without me taking the highback/heelback off. Do the other bags have this same problem? I read the reviews and it didn't seem like anyone else really mentioned it for some of the other burton and dakine bags. you're thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I've got a Burton Board Sack 166 and I don't have to take my bindings off. I throw my boots in between my bindings, and still have room to stuff all of my other gear on the tip and tail without any issues zipping it up.

We purposely bought a LARGE bag (easily fits two boards with bindings) when we bought our snowboard bag because we had/have flow bindings. Is there any way you can fold down the high backs of your bindings to make it fit?
All the board bags I've seen have been accomodating to traditional bindings....

did you try collapsing it down before you put it in? l too have the black burton space sack and dont need to take it off. yours being even longer should be needed to take it off. that is unless the padding is so thick that you cant flex the bag

I have a burton space sack (the padded one) and I can zip it up with a 160w and large bindings. It's tight but i can do it.
I just bought a new bag for the both of us that can fit both boards with both bindings. It is a Flow roller bag with removable binding/boot bags inside, it's friggin' huge. when we go to BC in March I think I'll stack the boards and remove the bindings anyway so no big deal, seems to fit better when you remove them.

I bought the Burton Wheelie Gig Bag 166 and i was able to fit my board, bindings, boots, helmet, and many more clothes without any issue, there was plenty of room in the bag and everything was padded to prevent breaking from being tossed in the airline. Its a great bag.

i own a 166 dakine bag and have never had an issue. just fold the backs down. my bag has 2 huge pockets and i put my boots on one end, helmet in the midlle, and pants on the other and it zips fine. i reccomend dakine! plus the pockets i still have room for gogglees, gloves, etc haha.

I have burton p1.1 and the highbacks stick out so far that it makes it hard to zip up my board bag. I will be headed to japan in less than 2 weeks (yay!) and I will probably take the p1.1 off. Either that or I will take my union forces instead.

make sure your bindings are folded as compact as possible. i have burton mission bindings and they are pretty long when folded compact but they still fit, i have XL's. I have a dakine bag and it fit my gf board and mine when i took my bindings off with two sets of boots and various clothe i crammed it. if ur having problems with 1 board something is wrong.

how much does your bag weigh with all that in there? airlines usually have a 50lb limit or they charge you. better to bring it in 2 separate bags

I'm probably just paranoid, but I take my bindings off. I worry that with the way they throw the luggage around during loading and off-loading, the bindings, if attached, could break or somehow damage the board (where they screw into the board). I also wrap the board(s) with T-shirts to keep them from getting scuffed up by the boots and bindings. I have boots and outwear throughout the bag to pad the board and bindings. Just a word of advice, do not put anything in the outer pocket(s) unless you can lock it...some jackass in Reno went into my outside pocket (a baggage handler most likely) and stole my multi-tool, a pair of binding discs, and snowboard lock. The main compartment was locked with a TSA approved lock, but the outside pocket couldn't lock. I am still trying to get reimbursed by the airlines.

Looking at your bag name and size. I would guess it is a ski bag, that they said could double as a board bag. So it was probably designed for skis not a snowboard.
Most Snowboard bags don't have that problem but you will see it with different set up and bags close to the same size as the boards.

I have one board with bindings attached and highback folded down. For my other boards (if I need to fit it in the same bag), I remove the bindings mainly because that's more space efficient.

if my bag forced me take off my bindings, I'd be pissed...that's just more tasks to do when I get to my destination.
fortunately, I got the dakine tour and I can fit 2 boards w/bindings attached (flipping one board over), as well my boots and all my snowboard clothes (boots have their own separate pockets) |

my boyfriend has the Dakine Fall Line Double 170cm ski bag for his board and he does have issues with the highback sticking out. he doesnt take the bindings out though. he just loosens it and adjusts the bindings so that the bag can close.

are you using FLOW bindings? Rear-entry bindings...
Those are a problem for travel because the high backs in the down-position do not lay parallell above the footbeds, but instead extend out behind the bindings... what you'll need to do is just loosen your base plates so you can turn your bindins sideways on your board. They will totally fit but if you are using this kind of binding, they don't fold up as conveniently as others

Exactly, never put anything in a pocket that you can't lock up. I would just take the bindings off because if for whatever reason your bag gets lost or stolen by the airline, at least you didn't lose your bindings too. |

Baggage insurance from Travel Shield. Covered from the time you walk out of your house to the time you return. I recently got it for a trip. Peace of mind in the event my luggage runs into a sticky-fingered baggage handler or break during transport. Back to the binding question: put it in your suitcase. My preference. The bindings reinforce the suitcase, keeping the middle from caving in from heavy items being placed on it. |

I have a Dakine bag with wheels. I take my bindings off and attach them to my boots since it gives me more room to fit my clothes ect. I can usually fit a weekends worth of clothes and all my boarding gear in the bag comfortably.

Most bags should fit the board with the bindings on. Did you try folding the highbacks down all the way? I'd imagine that folding down the highbacks would make the bindings about the same size as if you removed the highbacks....

I run EST bindings. Two screws each and I'm still too lazy to take them off my board when I throw it into the bag. I just pack around it. And the bindings act like separators, holding things in place. Use the highback as a cage to put some of the more fragile items under.

I have burton mission bindings XL, and i've tried folding them all the way down to the bottom. it's still having problems. the highbacks stick out about 2 inches from the bag. I like the bag a lot but it looks like the burton space bag may be the way to go for the next bag. that being said, do you think it's okay to take off and put on bindings? like i don't know if they put locktite on the tread or anything.
thanks again everyone for the info!

All of my bags fit the board with bindings in it without a problem. It starts getting a little tight when I try to squeeze like 3 decks including one plus bindings into them.
I have noticed that with for example some of the Burton Bindings, the Highbacks stick out over the edge of the deck when folded down (and mounted). Other bindings, such as Ride or Union for example, fold down nicely and fit without any problems whatsoever (even with the bunch of decks, boots, my avi gear and my outerware stuffed into them too. My bags are not even the large travel ones, I mainly use only the Dakine Pipe Bag 154 and Burton Space Sack 156 to fit decks anywhere fro 152 to 158 into them. The 158 is a tighter fit but it works still!

I have a Burton Wheelie Bag which fits tons of stuff. I flew home with my board and bindings in tact. The bag also included snowboard boots, all my winter clothes, and my buddies skis. Pretty sweet! All you have to do is stay under 50 lbs for most airlines. As always, boards fly free at Southwest!

I travelled once without and once with the bindings on the table.
I was scarer on the latest, but it was ok. The burton's bag has plenty of space: The board + bindings + boots + 2 jackets + 2 pants + gloves

I have the Dakine High Roller and I can fit 3 decks without bindings and 2 boards with bindings all in it at the same time. It's heavy as hell, but it will all fit. I'd say take the bindings off for the same reason somebody else already stated. With the way your luggage is treated, i'd be afraid they'd break the bindings. It only takes a few minutes to take them off. Just remember your stance width on the board, and your angles the bindings were at and you should be good to go once you remove them.

I bought a Burton bag and purposely went a little bigger also to be safe. Leave my bindings on and can fit my boots, coat, pants, etc all in the bag. It's super nice having it all in one place in the offseason so I can find it again.

never take off my binders. true travel snowboard bags are padded and well insulated so you shouldn't have a problem. i have had my dakine roller bag for 5 years and have flown with it over a dozen times without a problem. in fact you'll notice the straps in the bag that hold your board in place...they won't work without the bindings attached.
the only thing you have to worry about is going over the allotted weight limits for airlines. jetblue and southwest still have a free luggage allowance up to 50lbs and some will even give you 70lb |

I have a 152 sierra crew in a 166cm dakine tour bag. I bought the bag when i had a 157 board. I can easily fit the sierra crew along with my Flow "the five" bindings. I even have a plastic bag sleeve for my 157 board in the Dakine bag when I dont travel. On day trips, I'll pack my only 1 board and use each boot pocket for one boot. On longer trips I fit my girl's board and bindings and my board without bindings as throw in the jackets for padding. I can even fit the a pair of low profile boots in each boot pocket.

I have a Dakine Bag that can not only leave the bindings on, but I also can put my boots and pants in as well.
I would suggest loosening your bindings a bit if you're putting your ride on an airplane though, don't want them to pressure crack.

you probably don't have burton binders with their mentally challenged high back design. You can't fold them over without having them stick out like 4-5" past yhe edge of your board. I have a dakine tour bag (same size as the dakine low roller but without the wheels). I struggle to zip up the bag with my burton p1.1

Wtf. That is a terribly designed bag. I've never had to remove bindings on a single board in any bag, ever. Burton or not. Only time I've had to remove them is if I was taking multiple sets of boards and bindings, then I could have only one rig set-up and had to take the others apart.

The bag I have is large enough to hold all my gear. I just leave everything on the board and make sure everything is tight and ready to go before I ride.
