So whats the real low down. Majority of boarders that i know that have been to heavenly dont like it .... they say its more skier orientated.... too many flat spots...yadda yadda. So what are your likes and dislikes bout heavenly.

Sierra is cheaper, not as far into town (and thus a much shorter drive), has better parks, has better terrain, and even though it's smaller I think it's just more fun. Also less ridiculous noob tourists and a higher amount of really skilled riders. plus i have vertical plus (cut all the lines on busy days). and the people that work at Sierra are extremely, extremely nice/cool.

heavenly wasn't too bad..i just spent 2 weeks out there. there are several cat trails though. skyline, nevada trail, couple other spots u have to get LOTS of speed to get through. mott/killebrew are fun to go into. if you go there nevada side is much better to be on because it has like 25% of the people that swarm the CA side every single day. the park under tamarack was just finished with some nice medium features. other than that though, all the other parks are slammed all day long.
like spenser said, sierra is very fun, the terrain is nice. it's just pretty small and about 35-40 min drive from where heavenly is. |

I greatly prefer Sierra to just about any hill in tahoe. it's got some serious terrain if you know where to look. Way less tourists, easier to get to from Sacramentucky as well.
Heav is OK, but I spend the day bombing everything. lots of flats as others have said and you pretty much need to be at max speed for a lot of it. |

Thanks guys. I guess Heavenly will be a last resort resort (I guess that makes sense). Definitely need to hit up Sierra this season.

Heavenly rocks. Riding Sierra too much gets boring. I think Heavenly has better parks and they have a ton of good terrain if you know how to look. Learn how to skate better and the flat spots aren't even an issue. Ride down easy beginner runs one footed until you master it.

talk about not knowing where to look. SAT has the gates and Huckleberry Canyon. Motts canyon isn't even close to that. |

I ride all those areas. Please don't assume what people's experiences are.. I'll take a deep day at Firebreak or Palisades over the gates at Sierra. Don't get me wrong I love the gates and I love Sierra. Now if you traverse out and ride out of Gate 5 down to the adventure center tubing area or down to Christmas Valley then we're talking. |

Heavenly flats really are not that bad. It's flat to traverse between states but most everything else is okay. Just wax your board good before you go. Anyone dogging Heavenly hasn't hit up Firebreak and Palisades

As I only make 1 trip out west a year, I would not go back to heavenly. The flats I can deal with..., it's the traversing that gets me. I want to see everything it had to offer and I either had to traverse, or take a black/double black mogul run. Only spent two days there, so maybe I didn't find the best routes.
Sierra was more my pace, although my skier buddy said the exact opposite.

heavenly is a popular place to bash (especially with people who are trying to portray themselves on the internet as experts)...I'm not on that bandwagon. Their acreage is absolutely massive and has all levels of terrain...for most of the people on this site, it's a wet dream. I've been to several tahoe resorts, and always have fun at heavenly (been there at least 10 trips). Also, since town is within walking distance,
love being able to go up and call it a day whenever I please.

Heav has a ton of fun stuff, and is really good when you know where to go. There are also a million kooks standing around taking pictures on the weekends. However, my skiier friends inevitably make me hike, traverse and skootch my a$$ off to ride a hundred feet of "better" powder, and at the end of the day I'm always screaming "let's ride something on the FN fall line !!!" Since they're coming into town next week I'm fairly sure I'll be saying that very soon . . . . -b

The skate isn't bad. I can one foot to the Mott entrance and then strap in and make it to Dipper. Coming the other way I can pretty much make it to Cali from Nevada without stopping. From Comet to Olympic I can make it all the way without stopping too. Wax your board and learn to keep your speed. Practice one footed riding.
Another great area to ride is perimeter from the top of Olympic down to the bottom of Northbowl. So fun! The pipe conditions are going off at Sierra right now too. |

You definitely need to wax your board before a Heavenly trip. This past weekend mine was freshly waxed while my buddy's hadn't been waxed in over a year. He got stuck all day long while I rode through seamlessly (minus a spot or two). At the end of the day he was much more tired than me. I rode past a guy on a cat track near gunbarrel. He smiled at me and said, "Nice wax job."
Please everyone, wax your boards!!!

You should go to Heavenly at least once. Some great views of the lake and it's a massive area (as someone mentioned above). It does get a bit flat at times, so it can be a workout.
Also, gets pretty packed on weekends.

Not to mention there are tons of other shops around South Lake, which will almost always be better than right in the tourist-trap gondola area.

I personally enjoy Heavenly, because it is huge and the runs are typically wide open with good snow on the NV side. Plus the views of Lake Tahoe are priceless too, and it reminds me of where the wife and I got engaged. And then the tree runs... oh man the trees are sick! Perfectly gladed, and they always make lists of top places to ride in the trees. Crowds, of course, are always a bummer. But then again it is Tahoe so there are crowds on the weekend at any of the resorts. Maybe it's time for a splitboard.

the resort is not park oriented, but definitely enjoyable (and my fav out of the tahoe resorts). bring a well-waxed all-mountain board and it will definitely be worth it. plenty of backcountry trials that take 20-30 minutes to get to the bottom, as well as steep but groomed hills for the speeddemons.

Heavenly seems to be the "yuppie" park .... i mean Ive got nothing against beginners but the slopes are too crowded and it seems to be the resort that everyone goes to just for the sake of bragging to their friends that theyve skiied/ridden there.

heavenly's convenient because it's right by lake tahoe, but everyone should go at least once. i'd rather go to kirkwood.
