Well, there were a couple bare spots, but other then that, the slush was nice! Any shaded area was instance ice but it put my magna traction to good use. I also hit 3 of the medium sized kickers, so 5 jumps in total over last trips 2.
All in all, I think this might have been my best trip yet! Sad to know it was my last rip of the season...

Today is the last day of the season and we got half a foot of snow!
What a way to end the season... |

Looks like my local hill's 12 year plan got approved!
This season will see an increase of snowmaking from 1.5million to 7million, which means man made powder every day! Plus a new kids school and more seating at the base lodge.
Inclreased tech on the hill for monitoring means better attendance at events and possibly lower price season passes, as well as year round events for when there is no snow!
Now we just need more lifts and get further up the mountain...

Thanks for the link. I'm super excited and can't wait to go this year. But I still think I'm going to hold off on a season pass untill they get more lifts in. There are just to many other great (better) resorts a few hours drive away...plus my work flies me to Reno (tahoe) every few months...

LOL!
It was in the 60s today here in Las Vegas! And it rained! So technically we got the first snow of the season up on our hill!!! Gonna be back in the 90s next week, but at least it gave them an early chance to test out they new snow making capabilities! ![]() |

Thanks. Or did you mean where in Las Vegas is this? If so, it's up a Lee Canyon, next to Mount Charleston, about an hour north of downtown las vegas. |

Holy crap...I never knew this was just outside of Vegas. I grew up in LA, lived in CA most of my life, and have been to LV more times than I can count so how am I just finding out about this now?!?
I guess it's because if you're a real boarder and willing to go that far, then you might as well just go to Mammoth. Can always hit the crappy Indian casino in Big Pine on the way up if you need to get your fix! ![]() |

Eh...Mammoth is an 8 hour drive. Big Bear and Brian Head are only 3 hours away, so that's probably why. But seriously...I woke up at 9 today, looked on FaceBook and they said they were open today and tomorrow. Left at noon, boarded for 3 hours and was home by 5:30...you can't beat that! And they did a good job snowmaking...the bunny hill was better then last day last season in early April! Oh...and I hit my first rail-type feature today! WOOT WOOT!

Open again today...looking at the webcam and there are enough people up there but not so many that you need to wait. Wish I could go up again...but at least I finally got a chance to try out all the new gear I got on sale after last season finished up!

My hill opens tomorrow! Not bad.
I think they raised prices a little on the weekends to cover all the renovations, but I did find out about SnowJamShow.com which I signed up for $15 and gives me $10 off lift tickets in Las Vegas, as well as discounts for BrianHead and Snow Valley. Here's an edit some of the local guys put together: |

Todays the first day I'll be able to hit my hill officially for the season...that one day in October was a lucky shot. Hopefully it will be good. I've heard there isn't much snow cover and looks like only 4 out of 11 trails are open, but it's better then nothing!

So...I went last Saturday. Wasn't great, but at least I was able to go! Only 4 runs open and only a handfull of features...2 rails, a box and a jump. They fixed up the lodge area quite a bit with some needed steps and what not, and the snowmaking helps a ton.
Today we got some crazy Vegas weather and it dropped 15" up on the hill! I hope it lasts cause I can't go again till NEXT weekend... |

Usually, no. Yesterday was chains or 4wd. I only went up once last season that required chains, but their status this morning said Nevada Dept of Trans was already clearing the roads. |

OK! I know there has to be at least 1 other dude on these message boards that goes to the hill here in Las Vegas, because there was an article in our local 7 magazine about the hill and the pic shows a dude (not me) that clearly has a Sierra Stunt!

Nope. Only place I know of with year round outdoor boarding is up in Oregon...timberline I think? And coolz...I know what you mean, but it's not just 1 street. You can't go into a 7-11 anywhere in the city and not see video poker machines! LOL! |

Mammoth is only about 4.5 hours away...brianhead, big bear and snow summit are 3.5 hours away and snow valley a little past that. My office has a branch office in Reno so I go up there every few months...there's my ticket to Tahoe!

Damn, 4.5 hours is nothing! Being a midwest/east rider, you get used to 5 hours drives to shred. Many, many times have I traveled 6 to 8 hours on the fly to chase down just a few inches of pow. Even then, those places don't even hold a match to places like big bear, mammoth and so on.... ![]() |

You know...my local hill is probably the worst hill i've ever been to. short runs, slow lift and expensive tickets, but I love living in the desert and being able to drive an hour to go boarding.
But here's a question for you: Those 5 hour drives to shred...were they over night trips or day trips? Because I'm thinking of doing a couple day trips this year to BrianHead and Snow Valley. I just can't justify spending the night and not boarding the next day as well!

I've done turnarounds to get to bear and its about 2-3 hrs each way depending if I had to put chains on. it's pretty grueling. especially since Im the only that can drive stick. Try finding some places on hotels.com or other vacation sites to get cheaper rates. I have a midweek lift ticket to BH I can sell if you want to go there. otherwise let me know if you want to hit up Bear mtn and I can give you some more info.

Thing is, the only person I could get to go with me is this chick from work. My wife is not going to agree to an overnight with this chick... Besides, then I'd want to ride both days, so that's drive, ride, sleep, ride, drive. We'll just split it so I drive one way and she drives the other. Oh, and I went to SnowJam so I actually have one free and 4 half price mid week non-holiday tickets the BrianHead as well.

I used to do turnarounds at our resort. It's about 2.5 hrs each way on pow days...and that shit just about killed my back....not to mention how incredibly tired I was on the way home.
Now, I can't imaging not spending the night. I ride better the second day anyhow and the ride back is a relative breeze. |

nice. i love the folks from brian head. last year I scored 4 free passes too. I just wish i could actually make it out there. i hear tales of ultra dry powder and uncrowded lifts. yea the whole wife thing probably makes that overnight impossible. any luck with a meetup group nearby you? I've had success splitting rides with people to Bear for a turnaround |

I just don't know if I can justify the overnight stay to go to another resort when I have one that's just an hour away. We were planning a family vacation to BrianHead after christmas but they fell through. My uncle knows someone with a cabin near big bear so that's a possibility...

Good times. I used to drive up to Mammoth for one day hits. Head out by 4. Get to MM about 830-9ish. Head back home about 4 usually on one of the last chairs. The fam bam is not having that anymore. So now it's whoever wants to do it. The list is getting shorter every year. I would totally sleep in the car with a Zero degree bag if i had to.
Now when we hit up MM with fam and groups it's always an overnight/Multi-night mid-week. And fo sho multi-day trips when we hit up CO/UT resorts. Meaty hit up BH. If it's not windy or something else the snow makes it worth it. When you are in So Cal hit me up. |

wow, isn't that like a 6 hour drive each way?...that's commitment.
At least you don't call it your home resort (like some other socal members do ). Tahoe is about 5 hrs from me, but I don't think I could do one a nighter there...2 night minimum. It's just too far. |
