    Posted: Feb/06/2011 at 7:27am
The first new map pack came out for Call of Duty: Black Ops this past Tuesday. What do people think of them? Personally, I think Kowloon is by far the best of the 4 multiplayer, followed by Stadium, Discovery, then Berlin. My friends and I play mostly HC CTF so Discovery and Berlin are a bit too big to be really fun, but they're still pretty good. I think it's mentally challenged that they made a stadium map where you can't, for the most part, have combat in the actual stadium (I know there's the small part of the bleachers, but that's lame). The maps still aren't worth the MS points they make us pay for them though. What a rip off!!! Haven't jumped on that Zombies map yet, how is it?

To follow up the release of the map pack, starting last Friday at 10am until probably the wee hours of Monday morning, it's the first double xp weekend! My friends and I... we've been basically playing non-stop, taking advantage of every second. Can't... stop... must... keep... playing!!! haha.

I have never purchased a map pack before. But this may be the first. I am disappointed in the lack of diversity in the Black Ops levels. No real good sniper level.

I haven't had a chance to try the new map pack, dunno if its worth it, but did they come out with the new zombie map in this pack too? and did they fix the bug with the zombie wait list on the new maps?

traditionally, map packs aren't worth it. $15 for levels/stages... they sure know how to make money.

there's a bunch of decent sniper levels. think about all the relatively big maps like array, the new berlin, the new discovery. a lot of people snipe on havana, wmd... i mean, what else are you looking for in a sniper map other than being relatively wide open and rather large?

they're NEVER worth it. hahaha. at least this time, they didn't include a remake and charge you for it. in the past map packs, they've remade a level from a previous game and included it as a "new" map. i'm all for old, very popular maps, but charging us for it and then shorting us with all brand new ones... it's the way the "man" makes its money. honestly, i'm not so sure about the spawn points on some of the new maps actually. granted i've played them quite a bit already, but i already know several of the spawn points on some of the new maps which in turn equates to easy spawn camping/spawn kills. good for me, terrible for them. hahaha.

and yeah, before double XP is over tonight/tomorrow morning, i'm bout to prestige for the second time. got'em!!!

All the bitchin' about paying for map packs... It really is quite simple. If you don't think it's worth it, then don't buy it. Vote with your wallet. Nobody is forcing you to buy it. If you don't want to buy it, but end up buying it because all your buddies bought it, then that's on you. The video game companies are in it to make money. Anybody know what effort goes into creating and playtesting a single level? There are actualy people out there working on these things, not some video game-creating robot.

This is such bullshit.  The PC Gaming community has been putting out professional quality maps since before downloadable maps existed in the console world.  Yes it takes skill, yes it takes time.  Sure this all means money to the development companies but they've brought it on themselves by not allowing anyone else to do it.

Frankly, I could get over this, I'd be willing to pay an extra $5 to spot the cost of future game development.  I will not pay $15 every 6 months for new maps.

In other news my 360 broke over the weekend. :(  Really hoping there is a way to fix it because I'm not going to buy another.

In order of most liked to least would be Berlin, Discovery, Kowloon, and Stadium, I liked them overall. Was rather annoying the first couple days before they added the first strike playlist to have to randomly wait for the new maps to come up to play them. The double xp weekend was really nice since I was able to prestige again very quickly, I decided I would only prestige on double xp weekends to keep my points per minute and KD ratio up.

On a side note, has anyone else noticed the massive amount of people now using ghost, and silenced assault rifles? There was a lot of people starting to do it recently, but for some reason in the past couple weeks the number has seemed to gone up a ton.

I've noticed that.  Everybody watches the radar 24/7.  It's almost the only way to beat that.

Yeah, that's the reason I went to it, but I still suck. Cry

I used to run with Hardline and just keep on getting the UAV. I, along with my teammates, like knowing where the enemies are, and it beats running to a skull symbol only to get killed by the same enemy who killed your teammate.

No matter where you go, there you are.

Like I said, vote with your wallet.

As for your 360, is it still under warranty?  I'm on my 3rd one and know that I'll have to replace it with the newer designed 360 when it craps out.

Map packs are a total waste of money and they just rip you off. you are better off just not getting them but then i guess u get left out of a lot of the games and ur friends are mad at u for not getting them. either way i probably will get em one way or another

I always laugh at the idiots without them.  I'm running Ghost Pro with a silenced AK74u with a grip.  deadly combo and with warlord pro the two grenades help in hardcore HQ.

I've been running with hardline, with a scilenced 74u w/ grip. Hardline works good if you know the maps cuz you know where the majority of the people are. Still expiramenting tho.

Didn't that game just come out.

What they'll do these day to get some extra cash out of people.

your spending 1/4th the cash that you spent on the entire game on a couple maps that took them 1/100th of the time to make.

i have a AK74u class, grip, silenced. ghost pro, warlord pro, and marathon. i've tried to get marathon pro twice, gotten it once thus far, but it's so annoying trying to get it each time with trying to run the 26 miles and/or the first bloods.

it's a good class for run and gun because the 74u is strong and the grip makes it a bit more accurate, but i still like my m16 class better. it's more versatile for everything from regular gaming to HC; close range, to mid, to long; with little to no recoil and good strength to accuracy ratio.

i hate automatics... too much recoil and the strength at range is too weak. it also takes too many shots to kill people, even when playing HC. but hey, it obviously works for a lot of people, so whatever floats your boat. heh.

I just downloaded the maps, but I didn't get a chance to partake in the double xp, oh well.

I'm just not that accurate.  I can use the M16, but once I get the AK74u and then the AK47 it's all over.  Me and the FAMAS don't get along.  No idea why not, I just can't use that gun.

I bring the bullet fiesta to every match

The Famas in Mw2 was a lot better imo. Gotta love the bursts.

I just plain suck at this game.  I started off with full autos and switched to the FAL after performing several failed kill attempts while having the sights bouncing all over the place.  I figured the single fire of the FAL would help me focus more on shot placement rather than just going crazy as soon as I saw somebody.  Works good at a distance, but I feel like half the game is just running around and shooting somebody at close range when you come up to them.  At that point, it's only a matter of who can fire the most rounds the fastest.  It sucks.  I get so pissed off at how much I suck at it.

Another thing that totally bugs me is when I'm rattling off rounds with a full auto, and I feel like my sights are bouncing around, I get killed.  Watch the kill cam for a second and you can see that they're doing the exact same thing, yet their sights are completely steady.  WTF?

I toured the maps online, some of them look pretty good. I haven't had a chance to try any of them (PS3 user) but I'm curious how the more gimmicky parts of the maps will work. In the middle of the craziness a normal multiplayer match has, the computerized turrets or zip lines may get annoying.
