Depends which side of the lake you plan to stay at.

South lake has more nightlife, but only 3 resorts.

North shore has quite a few more resorts, but doesnt have as much to do after youre done riding for the day.

in terms of riding, i like north lake better than south lake.  heavenly is a beautiful resort, but it can be quite painful at times for snowboarders.  still, since stateline is right next to the resort, there are more things to do after.

i also found it's easier to find places to stay in south lake...

I've been to almost all of the Tahoe resorts this year: Alpine Meadows, Squaw, Northstar, Homewood, Heavenly, Kirkwood, and Sugar Bowl. My favorites are still Squaw & Kirkwood.

I had a season pass to Northstar for 2 years, then Squaw last year and Kirkwood this year.

I generally like north lake more since it's a faster drive from the bay area and there is a wide variety of resorts to visit, whereas south lake only has 3. The night life in south lake will be much livelier, though, with all the casinos on state line being there.

kinda depends on the riding you want to do as well and snow conditions, if you want to do good free riding sugar bowl's got a lot of it and less of a park although our park guys have stepped it up a bunch this year.

south shore: Kirkwood and the nightlife. Lots of reasonable places to stay too.

north shore: Sugarbowl (as long as there's been a recent snow) and go to Reno for nightlife. All the places to stay I know of are a bit pricey, so I usually stay in Reno if I'm doing an overnight.

Just got back from Kirkwood. Plenty of snow, almost no exposure. It just snowed up there  last week. There's more on the way in the next few days and even more in the forecast for the coming weeks. No worries. There should be plenty of snow through the end of the season.

Anytime I ride around North Shore and stay overnight, I stick to Reno for lodging and the casinos.

Try Northstar, Mt. Rose or Heavenly.

I've been going to Northstar forever.  I really haven't been anywhere else than there for the past 5 years or so because my family always gets passes there.  OK, so I lied, I've also been to Heavenly, Sierra, Homewood, Sugar Bowl and Big Bear within the last 5 years.

I just think Northstar really is the most well rounded resort in Tahoe, every time I go somewhere else I always compare it, and I always prefer Northstar.

I've been to pretty much every resort in the area, but that was when I was was much younger and when I skied, maybe my opinion based on fading memories would change if I went to the other places again, but I doubt it.

Except for maybe Diamond Peak.  I remember they had this magic carpet thing on their chairlifts, so that they could run them at a higher speed.  Thing was though that their chairs were really high off the ground and being a small kid I had to jump off the ground right as the chair came.  Pretty sure I had a few really close calls.
