Topic: Rub on Wax vs Hot WaxPosted: Feb/25/2011 at 7:19am |

Hey guys, I just happened to try Rub on Wax from Burton.
Bottom line is this: I don't even know if the wax is getting rubbed on. You see, The wax it self is so hard and stiff, and when I rub it on, I don't know if it is getting applied. On the other hand, hot wax is pretty good. I can really SEE it getting rubbed on. hot and dirty. |

Hot wax all the way. It is more time consuming but it works better and lasts longer.

rub on wax is $h!t. That being said, I did a massive amount of board waxing last night and think I'm developing carpal tunnel from the scraping.

This topic has been covered a ton here lately, but since you asked, definitely hot wax. Gets into the pores of the base better and will definitely last longer than the rub on stuff. If you know what you are doing when you hot wax, the base will look beautiful when you are done.

Hot wax is a much better way to go! I do use rub on wax though, but only if I am very desperate to get a quick wax in. Usually at the mountain.

Hot wax all the way. I do from time to time use a rub on wax if as a quick fix if i find the snow to be slow. its made by dakine and it works pretty well though i think car wax would do the same

Hot wax is definitely much better, but I don't hot wax every day out. So I'll use a rub-on just about every day out and that seems to help the hot wax last longer. YMMV.
FWIW, I like the Poorboy Speed Paste because it's softer and seems to get worked in better. |

I work in the tech shop of Perfect North Slopes, Indiana. From my experiences in application and use, hot wax, when applied correctly on the correct type of base, will last up to 7 or so days of use. (Assuming the wax is rubbed on and slowly melted into the pores of a SINTERED base) Rub on wax, or "quick wax", lasts a good hour or two in proper conditions, excluding ice and rain. A hot wax takes around 20-30 minutes, depending on the temperature of the board, and costs $12. A quick wax takes anywhere from 2-5 minutes and costs 6$.
Let's do some math!: HW: Y= (days x hours)/(price x application) Y= (7 x 8)/(12 x 20) Y= 56/240 Y= .233333333 QW: Y= (days x hours)/(price x application) Y= (1 x 2)/(6 x 2) Y= 2/12 Y= .166666667 Now you tell me, which is better: .23333333 or .166666667

I noticed some dry spots on my brothers board last time we went boarding and used some burton paste wax.
He complained that he thought his board was going a little slower after this wax. Just a little experience I had with rub on wax.

i hot waxed my board about a 1/4 of the way throiugh the season and never got around to it again. by monday i had practically no wax in my base and was going extremely slow and we were running out of time and money so we got a block of rub on for 7 dollars. i will always keep some rub on in my bag becuase the differenc was amazing. nothin like a hot wax but great for on the fly and its cheaper. its good for in between hot waxes cuz u dont wanna hot wax it every time or every other time

Hot wax is the wax to go. Mt buddy got a hot wax set and is waxing everyones skis and snowboards for like half the price of the ski shops. He says by next year he is going to be making profit because he has lmost paid off all of his equipment already.

I think rub on is good for a quick wax on the hill, but it's def not a long lasting wax job.

Hot wax, it costs more on the short run because the iron, the wax and the whole kit but the wax will last longer and cost you less in the long run and its alot better and faster and just all around is the best. rub on wax sucks compaired to hot wax, rub on you should use when you cant get to hot wax

I use both, rub on for a last minute brush up if i didnt have time to hot wax, and it works fine, hot wax is definitely preferable performance wise.

You brought back a post from march, on hot/rub on wax, with six links to other wax threads. Even though there was a more recent one on the exact same topic. Not that you'll even see my post... you'll just post in five more threads from March tomorrow.

i have never used rub on wax, but i would guess that hot wax is better because the wax gets sucked in the board better.

rub on wax vs hot wax is like justin beiber vs chuck norris, there is no way rub on is going to win it's not even going to put up something you could imaginatively call a fight.

Better to just pay a few bucks and get it hot waxed. You can ride probably at least 20-30 times before I'd get it done again and it works way better.

Hot wax with all temp wax will last you a while, esp in the middle of the board, you may have to redo the edges more frequent as that wears out more as you carv =)

I use Swix all temperature wax. Ive used rub on waxes in races and the only good stuff is the Swix black devil wax which cost $70 for a piece the size of an eraser. The hot wax is the most preffered method but rub on it good if your short of time or cash.
